you make me tired with all your great wisdom...that my friend is sarcasm!Series62;1341895 wrote:My point is that if you or others wish for, hope for, or believe that a facility should be named after any of the coaches mentioned, then your quoted spiel basically denigrated their accomplishments by saying that their accomplishments could have been achieved by anyone. -

Perhaps you lack the intelligence to discern a question to provoke discussion from a statement of fact? A question mark at the end of a sentence indicates an inquisition in case you didn't know.Series62;1341922 wrote:Perhaps, you should pay attention to what you write before you write it, you won't have to spend so much time trying to clean it up!

sanitizerI would say for the record that some Orrville teams have overachieved and some have certainly fell short. I myself have been on a few teams that really fell short of what was possible (pretty loaded with talent). I have also been a part of some other sports teams that overachieved. All while at Orrville. We probably all agree that so many things come into play when you’re trying to build lasting success. Kids, coaches, chemistry, discipline (in understanding your role), injuries, scheme..... These are interesting and thought provoking discussions we keep having but I think most of us would also agree that it is hard to put a finger on any one root problem of losing a few games unless you are pretty close to it? In most cases the product we see on Friday night is a result of the work and effort put into the Monday through Wednesday prep work. Poor performance and effort is a symptom of a problem. I think that is what we are all debating here, what is the problem? It “could” be coaching, lack of talent, lack of discipline, conditioning, size, strength or just WANT TO??? I just find it hard to believe that the coaches have lost the ability to coach this year? If you look at the wins for the current coach, he is on track with some "other" coaches we from the Ville consider legends. And they all had a couple bad years as well. I don't think I am defending him just typing what I am thinking about his case. The problem with “noise” about the coaching staff is once it bleeds to the kids they could find themselves in positions where they may or may not listen because “the coach doesn’t know what he’s doing anyway and everyone knows it”. We live in a world now where every parent seems to think they know more about the game than the coaches. “Why isn’t my son playing”? “He’s just as good as the kid starting”? I am not at all inferring that is what is happening but I have seen it happen. When I would ask my dad what I should do to get better he would respond “what does your coach say you need to do better? I don’t decide how much playing time you get! BUT you need to practice, work and hit like your mind isn’t made up about what time you are or are not getting on the field”! I will never forget that from pops. When I dig and hear some of the things I have heard from people much closer to the daily program than me I am really surprised..... I don't know if the kind of discipline for some of the behavior we have seen and discussed would fly today. What many of us experienced as discipline when any of us played was probably different. I don’t care where you played. Walking on and off the field, locker room antics after a loss or during a coaches’ dialogue to the team after a loss? What most of us would consider “acceptable” discipline would probably get us fired! LOL! I really hope we are all just digging into this more than we should and that this is just a "difficult" year. I REALLY DO.... My gut tells me this is the case but that’s also why I don’t gamble… Instead of listening to my BRAIN I tend to bet on my gut…..and I usually lose! LOL! I love my old town and hope they bounce back!!! RTR baby!

Nooooo...that never happens. Parents ALWAYS defer to the coach these days....LOL. We're seeing it here on this thread...coaching doesn't matter...they ain't special....they don't know what they're doing...anyone could do it.sanitizer;1342040 wrote:We live in a world now where every parent seems to think they know more about the game than the coaches. “Why isn’t my son playing”? “He’s just as good as the kid starting”?
Kids hear this, it undercuts the coaches authority and it spirals down from there. Apply the same logic to the educational classroom. Teachers don't know anything according to an increasing number of parents and get no respect. Little Johnny is an angel...it must be that hateful teacher picking on my kid. Parents teach their children through words and actions to not respect their teachers. And we wonder why we're raising a generation of disrespectful and rudderless youth? -

I am really disappointed in you. Finding season records and playoff appearences is easy. What unique thingRedRider1;1341691 wrote:You'll have to enlighten me...for I was just a young pup in 1982. I see an '82 team that was 6-4 and missed the playoffs...one of only two teams that decade to not make the playoffs.
Assuming you were on that team or had some close tie to that team and that by your comment, that team had no talent, but overachieved to a 6-4 record.
And my comment wasn't making the statement that Mo & Mac weren't good coaches, just that talent plays a role that is most of the time bigger than any impact a coach has.
We can all pick out a Smitty basketball team or a Mo football that overachieved due to coaching/chemistry...but 9 times out of 10, it's talent first, coaching second....in high school sports.
was done by Mo and his staff that saved that season? -
RedRider1Tell me..and others in the process.
Two years after our 1st playoff appearance & 1 year before a great 3 year run. Nothing sticks out as memorable to me but it must to you. Enlighten away....
BRF would probably know..or maybe Flash but they're both tired of the garbage on this thread & have stopped posting. Can't blame em...but a loss of 2 respected posters. -

AllOhioI too would love to know what the h*ll RRN is talking about! I played for Mo but I was off to college in the year RRN is referring to but I can tell you Mo's greatest strength was assembling a great staff around him, and he stated that several times throughout his career.

RedRider1I talked to someone I'd consider an expert on Orrville football, especially in the 80's...and nothing came to his mind either about the 82 season...so we're all stumped.
Shine the light of knowledge down upon us all, redright.
Tom Bolyard was the sophomore QB on that team...that doesn't strike me as groundbreaking. I'm stumped.
Maybe if RRN's book was complete, we could just look it up there. I can't wait to read it someday.
And for the record, I've never claimed to be a historian...there's 3-4 others in this community I'd look to for that. I'm merely a gatherer of information as a point of reference. If you want 'chapter & verse' on each of the 100+ years of Orrville football, I'm not the guy. -

You answered your own question with the statement prior to the inquisition. Sounds like you're calling him stupid. Easier to say stupid isn't it. No need to sugarcoat.
Have a great weekend everyone. Thread continues downward spiral. Better sites out there where many of us have moved on to. -

Really RR1? You accuse me of bashing people and getting personal on here but you go and talk about not being able to wait to read my book? Once again you seem to contradict things that you post in previous paragraphs. The truth is I haven't been inspired by much of anything going in in Orrville these days so it is hard to put the pen to paper! If I suddenly had the urge to finish it I would have to throw in the last few years of girls sports since that is the programs that are successful right now-meanwhile you can sit back and continue to post things on your blog that NOBODY comments on! Sorry I am not as successful as you!!! Lol!!!! Hey Dravenstotts called they are fresh out of the Orr Views it must be because of your stellar writing and knowledge!!!! Can you pull some strings and get them more??? It's a best seller or should I say a best freebie???RedRider1;1342554 wrote:I talked to someone I'd consider an expert on Orrville football, especially in the 80's...and nothing came to his mind either about the 82 season...so we're all stumped.

The Riders had not scored a point in the first two games of the 1982 season. The team was made up of mostly 10th graders. Sunday night prior to the third game Mo told his staff that a new offense would be installed to better meet the players abilities as there were injuries to a couple of players and because we had not scored at all. The staff spent Sunday night and early into Monday morning building, planning and in some cases learning the new offense. The whole point of this is it was a brilliant move by Mo to make a change that required moving lineman and receivers to running backs and bringing in young kids to fill in on the line. Orrville won the next 4 or 5 games in arow and salvaged a season. This team was not loaded with talent (yet). This might have been the best coaching performance in the 80's.RedRider1;1342299 wrote:Tell me..and others in the process.

That is very interesting. Totally agree that it reflects well on a coach to realize after 2 games that something needs to change...make the change and see success because of it.
Thanks for sharing.
Series...you just proved my point. Nothing but a vulture. Keep preaching the negative brother! -

REDRIDER555I would have to agree with Red rider 1this thread is going to negative, RRN if a volunteer booster burns the popcorn at halftime, some how you can find a way to blame the head coach. Series what has RR1 done to you, the guy says water is wet, and somehow you find a reason to call it dry. Troll as of late has started to frame things in a conversational tone. Ok Series tell me how bad my spelling and grammar are, that might be the first thing you are correct on.
