Week 9: Newton Falls (2-6) at Campbell Memorial (6-2)

I went to the meeting on Monday night. Coach Sikora said he was impressed with the way our kids conducted themselves throughout the game (there was a lot of chirping going on between the teams....most of it started by Girard, and our kids did not get into any physical confrontations with them). He also mentioned how well we handled adversity (leading 20-7, falling behind 28-20, and rallying to win the game). He was very impressed with the fact that the kids played together as a team and sacrificed some personal goals. Sikora stated that among all of the big plays made by Campbell in the game the biggest might have been Reyes scrambling for a first down on a 3rd and 14 in the third quarter. The following play was the Reyes to Rushton touchdown pass that put Campbell into position to tie the game. Sikora said our defensive line caused some big problems for Graziano the entire game.oldschoolreddev;937740 wrote:I hope that we don't have a letdown. But like bigdean said we have to clean up a ton of mistakes. Too many penalties and too many turnovers will catch up to you. Falls will come ready to play because they don't have anything to lose so we have to stay poised and under control to come out on top. I hope that we have some good weather Friday.
Sikora stressed that if we did not turn the ball over five times the game might have not been close because he knew the Girard defense was vulnerable to the pass despite all of the hype. Sikora mentioned that Newton Falls is better than their record indicates and that they have a 4 year starter at QB in Brazin and an excellent wide receiver in Dillon. He said they also run some option. He stressed to the kids on Monday afternoon that Newton Falls has done something this season which Campbell did not do. They beat LaBrae. He senses a new attitude among the kids following the Girard game. He said momentum gained by such a big win can lead to some big things in the coming weeks.
Personally I would like to see Campbell run the same offense they did against Girard the rest of the way. If a team wants to pack 8 or 9 men in the box and dare us to throw it, we should. If a team wants to blitz we can hit those quick slants and run that draw play that was so successful vs. Girard. -
sonnyblackNewton Falls always runnin' their mouths and "rarely" back it up, Campbell will win going away.
-
cmhs_prideNewton Falls definitely runs their mouth and will not back down. It's already been said. One, Girard is over and we have to move forward. Two, we cannot continue with that many mistakes. We just can't.

reddevil90Campbell has made a the biggest step this season. They came together and became unselfish. they control there temper. <-------- ask me if that was possible 3 weeks ago i would laugh. They proved us all wrong!!!! But as mentioned we need to protect the damn ball. this has been a problem for Campbell not just this season but since the turnaround. I hope they practice hand offs a little more and practice holding the ball better. Its not a loaf of bread. And continue to not allow people to get into your head ., This one individual game brought back so many memories. The defense getting pressure and getting in the backfield for a consistent loss. the defense making big time hits and stops. The offense opining up a can of whoop ass on Cochran's defense once again. You made the biggest step last week and only thing you have to do now is protect the ball and Defend Knapick.

sooner1Newton Fall DC will make adjustments during the game unlike Girard! That was unbelievable that a team like Girard could not make adjustments.
-
reddevil90A little off topic. But has anyone noticed that the players are wearing the 89 logo on the back of there helmets. Just thought i let you all know that the team is obviously honoring the great 89 team. Very nice to see that they are recognizing those teams now. If you ask me i really thought the school forgot about them ..

soupcitysoldierno its for mickey soroka...that was his number

RIP.Soroka.89
It won't matter. The game will be out of hand by halftime.sooner1;938589 wrote:Newton Fall DC will make adjustments during the game unlike Girard! That was unbelievable that a team like Girard could not make adjustments. -

Newton Falls is small and their defense is not very good. But they did beat LaBrae, which beat Campbell. So we have to stay focused and eliminate the mistakes. Too many turnovers will catch up to us eventually if we continue to have them.sooner1;938589 wrote:Newton Fall DC will make adjustments during the game unlike Girard! oldschoolreddevThere are a few things that worry me about this game.
1. Newton Falls has played a much tougher schedule than we have.
2.We are coming off a big emotional win. Will we have a letdown?
3. We have a tendency to play down to our opponents level.
I hope that we have had a good week of practice and understand what is at stake this week. Share of a conference title and a better chance of making the playoffs.
Good luck Red Devils. -
reddevil90After what i witness Friday i cant say that Campbell is a shore lock. Campbell is still prone to turnovers. They got to fix it and fix it now. But its easier said then done. And then all those drop passes and easy interceptions. This game should have been over mid 3rd qt. You take away at least 3 of the turnovers Friday this game would have been a blow out. and don't forget Campbell should have had another score added on. the long pass that ended up getting fumbled at the 3 yard line. And that went to girard. You can ask anyone on here. If you would have said do you think Campbell can win against girard if they turn the ball over 5 times and drop a bunch of passes and also drop at least 2 easy interceptions. I would have said there is no way possible. So dont think NF cant beat us. Campbell has to play like they played Girard ever game. And they need to play as a team like last week. If they would have done this in the two L's. We would have been 8-0 with this team.

soupcitysoldiershame shame shame on you campbell kids. kick them all off sikora.
-
sonnyblackdrove by the field earlier and saw a bunch of tarps or something laid out all over the middle of the field. soup^^ is that what u r referencing? what happened?
-
omemorialhighoh no its not that...its in reference to 3 prominent football players beating up a harmless scrawny 10th grader on his way home from school. oh and they pistol whipped him also. the administration is turning a blind eye to it, i hope the parents press charges. unreal. im tired of these thugs overrunning my town...these arent campbell kids!!! dom patton has to go. enough is enough. my question is where did they get a gun from on the way home from school??? hmmmm mustve had it in school dont ya think?
-
sonnyblackunbelievable, chance after chance, they will never learn.
-
oldschoolreddevGod Bless Coach Sikora & his staff for what they have had to put up with this football season. I mean you have got to be kidding me! Coming off of the biggest win this season and THIS is what they get rewarded with! I hope that coach Sikora doesn't leave after this season. Our program has improved a ton since this staff has gotten here and I would hate to see them go. But I wouldn't blame him if he left. There is only so much that you can do. This crop of kids are a bunch of thugs! I hope after this senior class leaves the discipline problems disappear. What a distraction! PATHETIC! SHAMEFUL!

Unreal... This is bull. I hope the kid is OK.. I dont have solution to this problem.. But if the administration knows this and turn a blind eye then they are as guilty as the kids. No way would i support them on the field. It is getting old with this group. I hope and pray that next years group is not like this... and i hope this group dont rub off... I agree OmemorialHigh enough is enough. When it comes to this kind of behaviour in our school system then its time that the administration and coaches take a long look at what they can do to try and fix this issue. we are heading in the right direction on the field but not in the community and school.omemorialhigh;940039 wrote:oh no its not that...its in reference to 3 prominent football players beating up a harmless scrawny 10th grader on his way home from school. oh and they pistol whipped him also. the administration is turning a blind eye to it, i hope the parents press charges. unreal. im tired of these thugs overrunning my town...these arent campbell kids!!! dom patton has to go. enough is enough. my question is where did they get a gun from on the way home from school??? hmmmm mustve had it in school dont ya think? -
BigT761Lets all calm down before starting rumors I heard it totataly diff
-
cmhs_prideThis really wasn't the place for this. What happened from beginning to end fellas? PM each other. We don't need the damn stereotyping on our community as if we don't deal with enough. Personally....if it's true, none of them play Fri. Chump move if true.
-
cmhs_prideOn a brighter note, I like what I've seen and heard from Brandon Reyes. Keep your head on QB. Very impressive and represented our community well on TV.
-
oldschoolreddevThe players involved in this attack have been suspended, possibly expelled. My friend saw the victim wandering the streets close to his office and helped this poor kid after this beating.
I feel bad for the kids who have to pay for this even though they weren't involved. I hope that the rest of the team goes out and plays with class in order to show who we really are!
Good luck Red Devils! -
ts1227I removed all posts referencing it until someone can provide some hard proof. Since 2 people say they heard it differently, let's hold off until there is something in the news to link to.

omemorialhighthree players suspended for tonights game. very true. whatever reason for...they are suspended. way to get ready for a title game. care more about beating up a 15 year old than winning a ring.
