The (Poor) Officiating Thread
-
ernest_t_bassI hate to start this, seeing how I am a basketball official, but I witnessed some terrible officiating last night.
(Let's keep this to legitimate complaints)
In a big game b/t Archbold (NWOAL) @ Hicksville (GMC), the calls were extremely one sided. I'm not going to get into the details, b/c calls are calls, and I can honestly say that the officials did not lose the game for Hicksville, nor did they win the game for Archbold. However, they had TOO MUCH of a role in the game. As an official, one thing that is unwritten is, "a good officiating crew goes un-noticed." Well, that was not the case last night. I will only list the legitimate complaints (not the holds, or the pass interferences) that I have a huge problem with in that game.
#1 - The white hat in the game (referee) was the commissioner of the NWOAL... visiting (winning) team
#2 - Archbold QB is about to get sacked, loses his helmet, then runs around for 5 more seconds before completing a first down pass. Per the rule book, play should stop IMMEDIATELY. Archbold was on the winning end of that botched infraction, but can you imagine if the QB took one to the head, knocked out some teeth, and the officials didn't stop the game?
#3 - I knew a few of the guys on the crew personally, and know for a fact that they have no business being in the Varsity atmosphere, regardless of sport.
I'd just like to see what some other OC'ers LEGITIMATE complaints are. The loss-of-helmet one just blows my mind. -
THE4RINGZThe game I saw last night was pretty well officiated. Nothing out of the ordinary. It seemed like they let the kids play a little more last night than in previous years.

adogErnest..can understand officaiating gripes...but your #1, the referee.....you mention that he is the comissioner of the NWOAL and Archbold was the visiting team....Well then sir..your gripe should be with Hicksville's AD. Being a non conference game , if Hicksville does it like many schools across Ohio do, hire the officals themselves for OOC. Why would Hicksville AD hire the commisioner of the league of the opposing school to be on the officiating crew?

ts1227Just as an FYI, if this thread is going to exist, let's continue to refrain from using any names to call out refs. So far so good.
We can talk about bad calls, but if anyone has personal issues, take it up with the ref yourself on your own time. -

Assigned by GMC, not our home AD. -

Obvious 300 is obvious. -
adogYour conference assigns OOC game officals...Did not realize that is the case. Don't think that is very common is it?

BigdoggMost of the good crews avoid the GMC

NWIndianNation01The officials for the Northwest/Orrville game were horrific! I am not blaming them for our loss by all means, but they were just plain terrible...against both sides!
Calling incomplete and complete passes that were the opposite. Calling poor pass interference. Even ball placement was suspect.
BAD all around! I had a guy that officiates games sometime sitting behind me and he picked them apart. Said it was one of the worse officiated games he has ever seen. -
J-DoverLast nights Mooney/McKinley game was bad. All calls for McKinley, from ball placement to face-mask calls. How does someone rip a players helmet off multiple times and not get called a face-mask? I don't mean by a smashing hit either. To taking the officials 45 seconds once the play has been blown dead to give Mooney the touchdown when the kid is three deep in the end-zone. Not to mention every time a Mooney kid was running the ball(55 times) they waited to blow the play done until 9 or ten of McKinley's players were rapping the RB; however the outcome was all that matters.

Mrs.Mustangbad officiating calls are always percieved by the victim:rolleyes:

bigkahunaI'm going to call ETB's complaints legit. #2 Might be actual file a complaint worthy.

madman11Friday night at Danville a Rittman kid was hit by someone leading with their helmet, out of bounds, after the play was blown dead right in front of an official and nothing was called. The kid was on the ground about to throw up..

Which is what I see this thread has turned into, but I should have known. I want RULES complaints, not judgement complaints!bigkahuna;876226 wrote:I'm going to call ETB's complaints legit. #2 Might be actual file a complaint worthy. -

SonofanumpThe helmet of the runner should not be a new rule. Fail on that official and the crew as a whole. But I am comparing them to other working officials, not the slackers who sit in the stands eating popcorn like the guy at the Northwest/Orrville game.

LOLOLOLOLOLOl!! That sums up NWIndianFan dead on! I was at the Orrville/NW game and I thought the officials were as average as every other high school game I have seen!Sonofanump;876288 wrote:The helmet of the runner should not be a new rule. That might be true, but I was referring to the JV official sitting next to him in the stands not working a game and criticizing.Old Rider;876460 wrote:LOLOLOLOLOLOl!! I just assume that fans will criticize officials, often due to bias and lack of knowledge. -

Thats what I meant. He was listening to an official...that was also a NW fan! Plenty of bias there!Sonofanump;876498 wrote:That might be true, but I was referring to the JV official sitting next to him in the stands not working a game and criticizing.

As for the guy behind me that was saying the reffing was terrible...he is retired...bad knees.
