The (Poor) Officiating Thread

yep. Very much so. Thanks. Would be tough to say if it was over that 3 second mark, but it does answer my question as to why it had been called in the past.

    Thanks.

There's a difference between legitimately asking a rules question like is going on with this thread and the other thread.

The Excessive Celebration Thread is about an interpretation between a very vague rule; especially when it isn't enforced on a consistent basis from crew-to-crew/game-to-game.

I would love to be able to ask a legit question about a ruling. However, the other thread is completely opinion based.

The crew in Loudonville Friday night was less than stellar, but what really took the cake was when they called pass interference on a catch and tried to add the penalty yardage on to the end of the catch.
  • Bigdogg
You sure it was not roughing the QB?
  • Souper67
No it was an interference call, and they eventually fixed it, but not until the coaches had a justified cow.

Last Friday Sylvania Southview @ Toledo Rogers there was a total of 35+ flags thrown. The Toledo City League has the worse referees and teams in the area will stop scheduling them because of it.

True. The best officials move to the NLL, SLL (whatever it's now called), etc. But I'd best most crews up there end up with a TCL game once a year.

Aren't all the catholic schools in the City League? My guess is that they would have top tier officiating crews.

Not anymore, they are in the three river. But when they were, did you want to see St. Johns crush Scott by 6 scores.

While as a fellow official of both softball and football, I must agree that missing the call on the helmetless player is a pretty major error. But again as an official I will admit, it happens. We may turn our head for a split second or focus on something else that takes our attention from a key play such as this. It happens !! Its just like being a parent, sometimes your kids really do slip one by us that we don't catch. In both situations we need to take that information and use it to make us better. The great part is, the player was not hurt.

For those of you that are spectators, please know that 99.9% of the oficials I work with, do it for the love of the sport. For the much abuse that we take during a game, the paycheck at the end of the day is pretty small for the amount of time we spend in travel and at each event. So for you the fan, that likes to heckel, yell and belittle these officials, (regardless of the sport), please think first before you open your mouth. Think about the example that you are setting for your children and others around you. Imagine if your boss at work spoke to you they way some spectators do to officials. This also applies to coaches. To often coaches are in the line of fire from parents and spectators. Thank you to all the coaches that have coached my children. It to can be a thankless position.

This last weekend I officiated a game and was very dissapointed in the conduct of 1 fan. Sir, just because you are the only one yelling, doesn't mean you are right. Sitting 80 yards away doesn't give you a better view than us on the field from 10 yards away. And while I think what you said was somewhat comical, you should learn the rules of the game first and maybe volunteer your expertise and join us on the field to help officiate. We would love to have you.

Just a quick thought: it isn't a penalty to grab someone by the "horse-collar". It is a penalty to bring them down by it.

You know for a fact that said person would soil his pants and sweat thru his shirt if he had to be on the field. I would not want that type of person attempting to officiate.

We had a doozy of a crew at the NW/Padua game last night! They put the refs from the Orrville game on a pedestal. Per the words of my dear friend Brutus....they looked like a PeeWee crew out there. They were DEPLORABLE!

The whole game they would call ticky tacky penalties, but then would miss EVERYTHING else. Padua was DIRTY...and there were no calls based on that. Padua was swinging at our players all night, holding like CRAZY, blocking in the back every other play, creating pass interference and jumping the whole game.

As I said in the NW thread, someone should send the game tape to OHSAA because those guys need FIRED!

    :mad::thumbdown::mad: TERRIBLE!!!!

Please post the video here. I'd love to see if your opinion is valid.

You can ask any fan at the game...it was bad...period!

I'd rather take a non bias objective expert analysis to such accusations.
  • NWIndianNation01
Wow... I don't have access to game tapes so why don't you head up to the school and ask to see it so you can critique my post. All I did was post the opinion of myself and the people around me. Just calling it as I see it. Isn't that the point of this thread? What are you, the chairmen of all referees?

Sorry that I am not like you and think that all officials are just wonderful and full of peaches and cream and everything sweet.:thumbdown::confused:;)

Sorry I must have been dreaming when I saw Padua take full out swings at our guys right in front of the refs.

You are right... our refs were amazing...greatest ever...didn't blow a single call.

It's called the NBC. It's all of the SLL teams-Gibsonburg +Rossford and Fostoria.

Yup, the 3 Catholic Schools, Whitmer, and Clay joined Ross, Lima Sr. and Findlay to form the TRAC along with the Ursula and NDA.

I just wanted to make sure because what side of the W/L you fall on depends on your opinion.

Giving the score, I'll change my mind and say that you might have a valid point.
