The principal at Norwayne should have suspended this kid from the game and from school for at least three days. Its amazing what is allowed in schools today.

It sounds like everyhthing fell into place for them. Norwayne only had the ball for 7 plays in the second half?....crazy! I guess they cant beat you if they dont have the ball.

I certainly dont want to stir anything back up but i'm puzzeled as to why everyone on this thread is taking the actions of 1 player and making the whole team out to be a bunch of derilicts. I'm not from Norwayne but I know alot of Norwayne people and have met several of their players. All of those kids seemed like fine young men when I spoke with them. I didnt hear anything cocky from any of them in the conversations I've been involved in.....and they know I'm from Orrville. Up until now almost nothing negative except for the fact that their coaches are clueless ( that didnt come from the players...adults). I've seen 2 of their games and was impressed with the way the carried themselves. The odd thing about all of this being said is something I heard about the postgame. I have a friend from Smithville that I called to congratulate. He was embarrassed about it but he told me that most off their student fans and many of the adults were taunting not only #22 but all of the Norwayne players as they left the field. He told me that those actions were no better than #22's and that he is seriously considering approaching Smithvilles administration about it this week. He also stated that he wasn't alone in his disappointment.
I was wondering if somebody was going to bring that up......I didnt see it happen but heard from some players that they were doing that...i could see the students doing that(it happens at all places)...but adults!!!!!!...come on.

I think they are planning a large parking lot just north of the softball field but it has not been started. They may have to open up parking at the Elementary school and possibly the sale barn thats about another 1/4 mile north. Good Luck folks and try to be patient with Creston's less then intelligent police department.....
that area north of the softball field will be a new practice football field and a baseball/softball field......as for the parking....good luck....lol.....the people with the 4X4 will be ok.....but everybody else....u could be in trouble

I was standing behind the loudest, most obnoxious one, and he was probably 55 with peppered hair.

I turned around to someone and mentioned that it's jerks like this guy that will give Smithie fans a bad name, just like #22 gave the Norwayne team a bad name.

Win or lose, players and fans should do so with respect. Discipline shouldn't end when you leave the field.

I really wanted to hit the guy in the face, but unlike him, I thought it best to show restraint. The officer even tried.to shush him, and he said something about free speech.

Yes, you have the right to say things only a jerkwad would say, and everyone else then has the right to call you a jerkwad.

The seniors at Hillsdale have played in a bunch of big games these last few years. A handful started as sophmores and they expect to win each time on the field....But you have to play a full four quarters to win a game. Loudonville had a nice team, I am glad we got them early in the year. If the Hillsdale team that played Bucyrus shows up at Norwayne, Norwayne will name the score. I however think it will be a great game. Should be a fun week reading on the OC. :)
My question. As a coach, if at the start of the season you know with some certainty you will play some decent teams and your toughest game will be week ten, how do you prepare? Do you come out guns blazing or build up so your best ball is being played at the end, or does it not matter? IMO I think it does matter. Coming out strong can lead to a sense of undefeatability, we have seen that happen.

Good post Go Falcons: I think you learn alot more about your team in the "close" games! Slow and steady improvement gets the job done. I believe the Falcons will be more than a handful for the Bobcats! The key to winning will be to get pressure on Wallace and take away running game. Norwayne did not adjust at halftime!!! The short passing game was working!! the Bobcats did not need to keep trying to hit the long ball!! The other glaring mistake was crowding the inside linebackers up to line, the smithville line pushed the norwayne line right into there own linbackers and used the quick hitter up the middle very effectivley! I am very suprised that the Norwayne coaches did not figure this out or see it on other game films! Smithville has run the quick hitter up the middle ALL SEASON! I think coach Willams will have the Falcons well prepared for the game this week!

Go Falcons, I aggree with your post. You definately don't want to be playing your best ball in the early weeks. We had to break in some o-lineman as well as some newer faces at some skill positions. That along with some vanillia play calling could be what led to some closer games early on. The intensity of the Smithville game was impressive and that followed up with a big win at Waynedale were good signs. Hillsdale will definately need its best game so far this Friday, IMO.
oldsmithie your above post is insightful, it is curious they didn't adjust. Hillsdale held Smithville well below their per game rushing average, that type of effort must be duplicated this week. I believe Norwayne will be ready and fired up this week as well.

    Chippewa 63 ( 7.0 avg) 322 ( 35.8 avg)
    Rittman 55 (6.1) 346 ( 38.4)
    Belpre 44 (4.9) 312 (34.7)
    Northmor 50 (5.6) 455 (50.6)
    Collinwood 42 (4.7) 437 (48.6)
    Toledo Woodward 38 (4.2) 475 (52.8)

Some real long nights watching any of those teams in person.

And a couple really poor teams this decade in 2002 , Lima Perry scored 20 points total and were shutout 8 times, while Riverdale scored 28 while giving up 535 points, avg of 2.8 to 53.5 scores.
Rittman's horrible offense has been painfull to watch this year. Dennis should be blamed for all of it. Also how are the falcons defensive backs? They have licata but who else?

I would say this, being down by Belpre for most of the year. I think Chippewa and Rittman would beat them.

Hillsdale matched up very well with Smithvilles linemen. The Falcons took advantage of the short passing game and broke a couple of the short passes for big gains. Norwayne is a different story, their spread offense was not effective on a muddy field. Smithville took away the running game and made Norwayne pass. The Bobcats needed to take their time and work the ball down the field with the short pass, instead of chucking it 40 yds. Smithville also put alot of pressure on Wallace. I am not a fan of the spread offense, it is designed for a very accurate passer and I dont think it is a good offense for running the ball, your running backs start way to deep in your own backfield, couple that with a muddy field and you see the result!!

    excellent post!

We saw Hillsdale use the slant pass and screens to "pass" the ball on Smithville....when they did try to throw the ball down field, Smithville DB's did just enough to break up the pass. They also used stretch plays to use their speed in the run game.

After watching the classic Friday night, I came to the assumption that the Norwayne coaches are young and ignorant. I say that because they came in with a gameplan and didn't make any adjustments at all! The short passes were working all night long, but they insisted on runnning right up the middle and throwing the deep ball, which by doing that suited Smithville's defense to shut them down.

I think Hillsdale again has the better O/D lines and can handle the line of scrimmage which will be a key component to winning this game. The Falcons have to get pressure early and often, and once you have the bobcats on their heels.....well let's see if they respond differently, or have the same response as last week.

Thank OQB!! I was not at the game, but have seen it 4 times on replay!!! I have had time to sit and disect it! something the Norwayne coaches should have done with the game films of Smithville!

Let's face it....Norwayne had a better opportunity to watch games and figure out a way to beat the Smithies, watching the films you would've been able to see what I explained in the last post....but they decided that they do what they do and nobody can stop them. Meanwhile, Schrock and the Smithies didn't have anything to go on because nobody has given them a game all year, what does he do....pulls out the OLD reliable ball control offense and gets the victory! That old style football comes in handy in this new era of football right Paul? haha!

I am interested to see what Hillsdale's gameplan is going to be.

I must clarify: I am not bashing Norwayne! I think they are a very good team! I would not want to have to play them again in the playoffs! lol. I just had to point out a few things I saw on the replays of the game. If the Norwayne coaches can learn from this and see where their team is vulnerable, it can be fixed! I wish all the area teams good luck on Friday!

Are you going to a game this week?
  • oldsmithie

  • O-Trap
I wish I could make it down to the game this weekend, but I'm not going to be able to. Just as well, I suppose. Parking will be hellish, so I'm just gonna have to listen to QKT.
  • OQB
yeah that's one thing I am not looking forward to.
