Hahahaha I love this. I agree with the several other posters who said he doesn't deserve to be on that team, in that locker room, or in that uniform. Not only did the young man make a poor choice early in the week, but he also showed that he learned nothing from his discipline and cost his team more heartache. Makes u wonder where the parents are and if they condone this type of behavior.
  • OQB
^^ I was explaining to my Dad tonight what the chatter has been all week and I told him the same thing...where are his parents at in all of this? I know my butt would've been on ice after the beating I would've gotten for acting the way he has...heck you talk to a kid the wrong way these days and its child abuse...and now we see no discipline, smh.

maybe this game shut up paul for good... This game proved alot about norwayne. I wasnt impressed with anyone honestly on their team, The zimmerelys were a non factor all game, wallaces passes were all over the place because he finally got some pressure on him for the first time all year, and mark hilty made norwaynes defense look like little boys out there. i picked smithville to win this game because I knew smithvilles line would be to much for norwayne to handle.... Norwayne= Very overated.
  • OQB
For those in attendance....what do you think the play of the game was?
  • Mr. Russell
Haha I really don't think people should single out the DBacks for Smithville. They targeted one sophomore the entire game. Bates and Shane played outstanding on D and really have all year. Trogdan/King are learning and they will be better next year. I would throw at them too if I were other teams, but don't single out the entire defensive backfield as a whole. Overall they played very well.
  • OQB
yes they did....they grounded a high flying offense to 14 points....and shut them out in the 2nd half. Very happy for Coach Schrock!

I'd have to say Tom Hilty's sack. Wallace seemed shaken up the rest of the game.
  • Mr. Russell
OQB, I would say the play of the game was Alex's touchdown at the end of the 1st half the really shocked everyone. 17 yard touchdown run, on a 65 yard drive in only 57 seconds!!! No scoring occurred after that play. Also, no first downs for Norwayne after that. If not that, the recovery of Wallace's fumble in the 4th quarter that gave the Smithies one more chance to put the game on ice!
  • Mr. Russell
Also, watched the film again tonight, in response to Otrap, Tom and Mark Hilty both put some shots on Wallace.
  • OQB
Those two were very key plays...I think I would go a different route.....Hilty's run on 4th down carrying 2-3 bobcats on his back to get the first down and keep the ball in the Smithie's hands.
  • Mr. Russell
All those plays were huge. No way the Green Machine wins without any of them.

after watching the film, I can't say enough good things about the performance of the Smithie run defense. Also great pressure during Norwayne pass attempts. They totally stuffed the Bobcat run game.

and sorry Mr. Russell, I still think the Smithville pass D is suspect. They were greatly helped by field conditions and an outstanding effort up front.

Overall, great game plan and execution by Schrock and the Smithies, who ironically now become Bobcat fans in order to claim a share of the title. Even in weak years, the WCAL always seems to have an exciting wrinkle.

BRF- no, you can't enjoy your trifecta, Miyagi revoked your enjoyment privileges on the WCAL thread.
...and thanks for busting me on my incorrect use of the word "too/to".

As for #22 on Norwayne, this was handled very poorly. This little punk should have been suspended from
School for creating a vulgar video on school property. Speaks to the lack of leadership at NHS.
The kid should have been suspended from the team for a minimum of 2 games. Get the cancer away from the team. One quarter suspension? Are you kidding me? What coach would allow that other than one who does not value discipline.
As for the parents, why would we expect them to do anything. They have obviously not done their job for the previous 18 years.
Too bad this kid does not play offense. He may have had his scrawny rear-end finally taught a lesson.
If Norwayne let's this kid play next week after the video and his penalty last night they deserve no respect from anyone the rest of the year.

he will play next Friday....I have seen it before here at Norwayne...coaches will do nothing else.......in their mind it is done and over with.....we knew this would happen this year with our coaches a bunch of young kids trying to coach.....they did not have to coach for 8 games and when they had to they couldnt.....they have no disciplin ....I honestly thought 10 -0 would happen this year, but after last night...i am not sure........they made no adjustments and when some of the players tried to adjust themselves to stop the running attack....they were called "selfish" players and not team players!!!!!!.....

A lot of life lessons to learn after tonight...I just hope the coaches know how to teach them those life lessons. After watching the way they handled that player, I wasn't impressed with their disciplinary actions.
Agreed. Lots for the Bobcats to think about before next Friday.

i agree mompov - the daily record article sums up the bulldog game well - they had so many guys in street clothes last night it was almost comical. When Moyer goes out, there goes the gameplan. I think they probably beat the chipps by 4 scores if he plays. You have to remember, when they lose moyer, they lose their leading passer, leading rusher, leading tackler, kicker, punter, kick returner and punt returner (he may even do the long snapping to himself, I could never quite tell). As long as these guys stay positive, things will definitely look up the next couple years.

The young man from Norwayne is also a wrestler, and, beast help me out here, has older brothers. If I am remembering wrestling meets correctly, am not surprised by behavior or lack of parental intervention.

i think last night's game was one more piece of evidence the wcl just isnt having its best year. Smithville is a very good team, no doubt, but is far from great (they lost to a very average tuslaw team). Hillsdale is very good as well, but they were better last year. Norwayne hadn't played any decent team in the wcl before last night. Their non-league games look decent, but I don't think we really know how good those teams are, either. CVCA has a good record, but its not a top year in the PAC, either. I think the chances of a 3 way tie for the league are pretty good, but I feel a lot less confident that we have a team go far in the postseason from the conference than I did Friday morning.

Bobcat14 - I was one who was really impressed with the Norwayne team this year. I felt they could really give Orrville a game if given the chance. I still think they are a good team but right now I want them to lose to Hillsdale and somehow miss the playoffs. This kid obviously did not learn his lesson since so we will see what kind of men are on the Norwayne coaching staff next Friday. If this kid is in uniform, they deserve to be called out and hopefully Hillsdale adds further embarrassment. If he is in street clothes than there is hope of some class left in Creston.

My gosh, the Dalton folks are proud of a 2 point win over what is probably the worst high school team in Ohio!?! Just feel bad that the Chipps couldn't break that losing streak.
that's because we are proud !! of our school and kids. if we go 1-9 or 10-0.

    no their isn't

Can we please stop the discussion about #22? My God, the kid wanted some cred, and he got it. We are still talking about it almost a week after the fact. I assure you all one thing, Schrock would have had his boys ready to win that game even if there had not of been a YouTube or Facebook video. His actions, while a mild distraction perhaps to the bobcats, were NOT the reason the creston 11 didn't go home with a victory. You can use him as a scape goat, and keep his name in the presses, but the fact of the matter is Smithville was more prepared, had a better game plan, and executed better.

Now, seeing that Hillsdale has the same ability to take the air out of the ball, and keep the ball out of Wallace's hands on offense, does your prediction for the Week 1o Showdown change?

Sorry, but a loss to Hillsdale won't drop them out of the playoffs, and they probably still have a home game in round 1. Big losses by Black River and LaBrae helped the top 4 teams in the region.
