wasn't trying to be negative about him , just don't want to see him hurt it worse. Did not know the full extent of injury. I am happy he gets to play. It would have been a terrible shame if he could not play at all his senior year.OQB;920718 wrote:rep! -

Wasn't trying to be a downer on him , just would hate to see him hurt it worse. I did not know he could not hurt it any worse than it already is. I am happy he gets to play his senior year, i know he worked hard this year.RedRider1;920702 wrote:He's on the field. Not near 100% and still needs ACL surgery. I'm not a doctor, but I found this..."Continued athletic activity on a knee with an ACL injury can have devastating consequences, resulting in massive cartilage damage, leading to an increased risk of developing osteoarthritis later in life."RedRider1;920702 wrote:He's on the field. I'm assuming that is part of the "special something" of donning the red, black and white. -
riders1Not just special to the red, black, and white, but it happens at other schools also, it has to do with being a senior and not wanting to miss the "special something" of the last year in school, it happened in Stark county last year and I don't believe the Orrville coaches had any say in that case.

And if we all stay on the OC long enough we will develop osteoarthritis in our fingers later in life!Series62;920945 wrote:I'm not a doctor, but I found this..."Continued athletic activity on a knee with an ACL injury can have devastating consequences, resulting in massive cartilage damage, leading to an increased risk of developing osteoarthritis later in life."

FlashA Volleyball player played with a torn meniscus last year, just couldn't go 100%. I think the decision should be between the MD and the family. I'm sure they were told the risks and his case may not be the same as you might read out of a generalized internet discussion.

Red Rider NationI spoke with Matt after the game and he is a very humble kid. He was just happy to be out there. I asked him if he was OK and he said the joints will separate from time to time and then come back together. He said it looks worse than what it actually is. One thing is for sure, this kid has a ton of heart and its great seeing him back in that uniform. I was there the day he tore it and I will never forget that scream that came out of his mouth and you knew it was serious. To see him in uniform 7 weeks later is just amazing. I would take him anyday at 60%. The kid never offers any excuses and is just a gamer!

RedRider1And it's not like he'll be playing for years on this torn ACL...soon as season is over, I imagine he's having full-blown surgery. So is another few months of what will probably be limited action really make a difference in the "long term?"
Does anyone who played high school and/or college football NOT have some old "football injury" that bothers them from time to time? Would they trade that for the experience of suiting up with their classmates and representing their school and town?
Let the kid enjoy what's left of his senior season. He's putting in more work just to give himself the best opportunity to get on the field that probably some perfectly healthy kids put in all summer leading up to the season. -

Now thats Red Rider Tradition. Matt Davis is going with the mindset that the team and that jersey is more than his immediate future and I cant respect a kid enough for the courage he has. Seeing that kid on the field Friday along with Masons broken hand and Drews ankle made me feel that everything will work itself out. I personally have been hard on this team but these kids are putting this town on their shoulders and that is an amazing thing to see. Week after week these boys go out there banged up, battered, and bruised but give it 110% and that I admire. That West Holmes win was the best win of the year as we handled some adversity and some criticism and came out on top. I also want to say Kyle Lichti has taken a beating from some fans but he was awesome Friday. Keep doing what you are guys and I look forward to an awesome ride late into the postseason. One thing we can all agree on here is our passion for Orrville football and I cant wait until Friday night -

Well said....any player at any time could play the last play of their life....is that a reason not to do it?riders1;921269 wrote:All it takes is one hit with the healthiest player also.
RRN,
well said about Kyle...all he needs to do is have confidence in himself and he'll be fine. I've seen our coaches be nothing but supportive toward him since last season. It's up to him. He's got the tools. I liked the way he played in the mud. -

Poor Matt must have gotten his bell rung because he has no recollection of speaking to a woman after the game. That sure was a big win for our team Friday night, wasn't it Series62?Red Rider Nation;921108 wrote:I spoke with Matt after the game.... -
OQBI have supported Kyle ever since his first snap, and will continue to do so. He is our QB and we all should support him. Kyle does not have to be a superstar.....All he needs to do is be efficient and manage the offense. He has a lot of weapons to use to be very successful. He just needs that confidence from himself AND the fans......the coaches have confidence in him to be the QB why can't we? Players and teams thrive on support and confidence from the fans.....let's really show that the rest of the way because this team has so much potential!

Sure was...and I wasn't in attendance. From what I read in the paper, West Holmes was a much better, and tougher team than was Lexington!BRF;921973 wrote:Poor Matt must have gotten his bell rung because he has no recollection of speaking to a woman after the game. So, playing in your last high school football game as a senior is the high point in your life! Really!RedRider1;921376 wrote:Well said....any player at any time could play the last play of their life....is that a reason not to do it?...
No wonder why you guys get so offended! -

Series, you say your boys played for the RED RIDERS! Did you and your family transfer in, or were they "Hometown" meaning have they attended Orrville from grade school on up?Series62;903018 wrote:My sons played for the Orville Red Riders. That's all!
Putting on the uniform does not transform you into someone or something to be worshipped and glorified as some of you seem to do!
What I said was simply this, that Lexington was not the tough opponent some of you would have them to be. If you feel that's an insult, you have that right. You don't seem to have an argument with those that agreed that Lexington isn't that good. -

Completely missed my point.
There's chance of something bad happening in just about everything we do...but that's not a reason not to do something. It's not the destination, it's the journey. Matt will get to move forward in life knowing he gave it his all. I think it's quite a character builder that will drive him as he grows. -
5knotsEveryone else got the point RR1.
