Orrville Red Rider Football 2011

Old RiderJust curious??
I have been to every game this season, but I do not sit in the stands. I haven't been paying close enough attention to our crowd, but how many times has our crowd done a chant or cheer such as "DEFENSE, DEFENSE"..anyone?
It seems as though when things are looking a bit troublesome on the field, our crowd goes into their shells as opposed to getting on their feet and hollering some words of encouragement to the team!! -
OQB
You're surprised by this? It's been this way for 10 years now.....when everything goes our way they can cheer (on their butts) maybe clap some hands....but as soon as we are down or playing terrible...they do exactly what you said go into their shells and have a pity party instead of cheering.Old Rider;911865 wrote:Just curious??

GoChiefsKinda sounds like my alma mater as well. Seems like Friday's in Logan have turned into more of a social gathering instead of watching a football game.

Old Rider
I know, it was the same when I played. However, there was always a group of people or folks scattered around the stands that actually cheered during the good and the bad!OQB;911868 wrote:You're surprised by this? ...or maybe there is truly nothing to cheer about with this team! -
OQBOld Rider, you've got mail.
-
RedRider1We're such a spoiled fan base....we wont get excited until Wooster week and beyond....and if we keep laying stinkbombs on the field, it wont even happen then.
I remember when I was little nearly everyone stood for the kickoffs, now it's a smattering of fans at best.
This isn't an "Orrville" problem, but for a community that defines itself as a high school sports town....it's concerning. Empty seats, small student turnout.....it's not like it was anyway. -
OQBThe good thing is, as much as the fans have become fair weather or playoff fans over the years.....the football team still has positive seasons and doesn't let the fans determine the game.
-
Old Rider^^^ I don't know...I think if our offense would look in the mirror it would be looking at an image similar to our fans on Friday...BORED OUT OF THEIR MIND WATHCING THE SAME 10 PLAYS BEING RAN OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!!!
-
OQBHaha true.....

BRFI would like to congratulate Old Rider for arriving into the 21st century by posting a pic! Well done. Do you have some names to go with the people? I believe I see BRF in there.

Old Rider
Funny you say that BRF...this pic was taken during your 7th period class. I always liked your class, but apparently times have changed!BRF;911975 wrote:I would like to congratulate Old Rider for arriving into the 21st century by posting a pic! Well done. Really? Will that win us some games? Thats an embarassing remark. How about our damn coaches yell some words of encouragement! The fans stomp their feet, yell and scream (no thanks to the band) and the team still doesnt execute. Why on earth is it up to the fans to motivate this team? Come on guy you are way smarter than that! -

Maybe the Patriots should fire Belichek because Brady threw 4 picks or Steelers fire Tomlin because of Rottenbergers lousy game. Get over it and your personal bitter feelings and try to enjoy the game not look only at negatives.
Also I have never spoken to Coach DaVault so we are not personal friends.
And Mo and Mac had "friends" like you that knew more football than they did sitting in the stands when they were coaching. In fact there is one who said it about Mo, then Mac, and now DaVault. He should have applied to be a coach LOL
Coaches coach, but players at any level still have to execute!
The difference is that Brady and Belichick will learn from theor mistakes and Orrville will keep making them. I talked to a HS football coach this evening and shared with him Orrvilles season thus far and he agreed 100% that the coaches are not doing their job. He said when a player on his team gets a penalty he ios removed for the rest of that series and possibly next until he gets his head straight. Our coaches just shake their head and move on. You all can think what you want, and get ticked at me but I am right and I have sat with many past players in the stands who agree as well. Wake up ya'll DOug Davault is not the answer! -

Hey Mr Jon Haley and Mr Brynt Wertz, the fans in Orrville are as good as it gets it just the coach who isnt and Jon im not talking about your brother as he should be the head coach!OQB;911868 wrote:You're surprised by this? ridernationJim Tressel is available, could work out an agreement with Smuckers to bring in some fathers with big time players and we can become Mooney, oh wait that would piss off Series because we wouldn't be playing our own, but then that would piss RRN because Tressel has a discipline problem, well guess we keep what we got and get a life, look in the mirror people nobody is perfect.

Wow! Thanks for the feedback. Now I am dumb and have embarassed myself! The band is aweful and the coaches do not motivate the kids...now that is some words of encouragement from a die hard Red Rider fan!Red Rider Nation;912591 wrote:Really? Will that win us some games? beatobamaNot around Rider program, but are coaches getting burned out after many years in the program? If they don't get excited, this could be the case.
-
RedRider1Coaches get burned out because it's a thankless job....when things are going good. It's a miserable job when you have to deal with entitled kids and their parents.....plus negative fans.
I just find it amazing that a coach who has taken his team to 3 regional finals since 2006 can be viewed so negatively, even if by just one person. -
5knotsIt is very easy to be critical of coaching, I've done it...I do it all game every game to myself and my buds that walk up and down with me. then I watch film and talk to some coaches after the game and understand a lot more about decisions. Often what I though we should be doing they agreed or disagreed and in either case they had facts to back it up not feelings. Nobody likes to lose and that makes us all a little edgy. It seems that this is the only time a certain couple want to post anything and it is always the same thing. We all know who they are and funny thing is I would consider them friends. Oh well. they are entitled to their opinion. And it is just that their opinion and, just like mine it is nothing but a feeling. They don't bother to take the time and even show up to a booster club meeting where you can get a question answered by our head coach. No, no, just post on here what you "think" should be done because you know better or the "guy" who was a coach knows better. I think any High School coach deserves better than that and I think those few of you who think you have the answers would have a better understanding of the coaching staff if you are able to take the time. I could go on and on and answer many of the comments/criticisms that are presented but often I do not because I think it would give an opponent an advantage against us of they read it. I am free to talk to any of you along the sideline every Friday night. C'mon down and we can complain together.

RiderfanI may agree with Series on one thing. I would keep Turner back on punts by himself. This is not a knock on Brenner, but Turner does most of his damage in open space and I'd give him every opportunity to handle the ball. I think when you have someone else back there with him the punter will attempt to kick it to the other person everytime.
-
5knotsYes, on the surface I agree 100%, May be other reasons? Like I said, it is easy to be critical on here but we don't know what coaches know. I think our staff has the intelligence to see that. We need to scrap our way for the next couple weeks and get healthy.

As I was a punter in my playing days... a better punter than qb lol. Having 2 guys back deep for punts makes it extremely difficult to "punt away" from the opposing team without punting out of bounds. With one guy back, he can only cover so much ground before the punt team is there to tackle him. I am on the fence with this because I know where you guys are coming from, but I can see the coaching reason behind it. We have two really good athletes that can return punts and I think our coaches want to maximize our returns and gain as much field position as possible....hence having both Turner and Brenner back deep.
Here is a suggestion though....Instead of having brenner on the left, turner on the right or vice verse, How bout bunch them together and as soon as the punter punts the ball break out and have turner catch and return punts. It's obvious teams kick away from Turner, so why not try to surprise the opposition with a new punt return look?
