Orrville Red Rider Football 2011
-
Mr. 300I prefer to be involved at home behind the scenes. The homefront is in my mind where the support comes from for any student athlete. Too many parents sit at home telling them Johnny is better than so-n-so, and that coach doesn't know what he's doing. We preach hard work and going 110% at all times, not complaining about not getting the PT they think they should. The oldest plays football, baseball, and bowls (his best sport is bowling), while the youngest plays baseball and bowls. Different approaches by all means, but not old fashioned in my eyes. It's great what's happening for your program, and it works well, so keep running with it.
WH will be better this year, if nothing else by simply being another year older, wiser, and stronger. Last year was literally a sophomore based team. They have the skill sets, but line play will make or break them. -

No, they don't "owe" an explanation for their vote. However, I'm sure some are curious, (including myself), how an athlete of his caliber for this community could be overlooked. Perhaps his comments about "Orrville politics" are well-deserved since he was obviously "snubbed". Perhaps he felt that was an injustice and a lack of deep respect for his efforts.
What recent discussion exemplified a lack of "gratitude" for those people? -

while I appreciate your interest...5knots;850002 wrote:It is the complete opposite here. Coach Davault encourages any community member young and old to stop in and watch practice. Usually 10-15 folks come and go. Some just stay in their cars, some near the field out of the way. Some bring their kids....future Red Riders...so they can see the work that goes in. Coach D just spoke to the youth football parents/kids and said what I just mentioned. He wants everyone involved and has nothing to hide. I am a little closer to the situation with several players the past several years. We have pieces of equipment to custom make for the players, meals to plan, two x days snacks to plan, outings to plan, etc. I understand your point, but it is a bit old fashioned as to when a parent should not be involved with their son/daughter careers. That doesn't mean interfere by any means, but a parent should know what their kids is going thru so they can understand what is required (demanded) of them for a season of Red Rider football. If it is not your cup of tea...stay in Holmes County....haha.. just jaggin' you a bit. Good luck to your son. I think West Holmes will be very good this year.
I have seen you pace the sidelines....im just a fan...but i suggest "chill....sit and enjoy"
you need to just efffin shut up.............start your own thread........and cry the blues!!!!!!!! See who comments! Just don't like the idea as a parent of parents clinging around practices at the high school level. It's o'k at the peewee level, but not for me at this level. That's just my opinion, so please do not take it personally.
If my son, who's a soph, gets on the field, tell your son to go easy on him. LOL More than likely he will get more seasoning at the JV level, but you never know.
Agreed. Now is the time for boys to become men and not have Mom or Dad in the shadows all the time. Have faith in the coach, the system, and the leadership. The Football Moms will take care of the snacks. I know for a fact that some players focus better without parents being in the area during instruction. It's great to have Parents support and backing, but this experience is part of getting them ready for the real world. -
FlashMy advice is hang around as much as you can without being in the way. I'm sure you're not giving the coaches advice. It will all end too, soon. If you just go to the games only you're going to miss out. If your kid can't play in front of his parent then he'll never make it in a stadium packed with 80,000 to 100,000 fans. Do what you feel is right and is Ok with your kid.

5knotsI am not condoning being in the way. You observe and keep your mouth shut. "football moms"...really, did you say that. Responsibility and parenting is a shared thing. You guys are obviously not part of Rider Nation. We look after our kids/coaches/ball boys/trainers/etc....they need something we have people to call to try and get it. We are not very far apart about agreeing on this topic just some misunderstanding on what exactly a parent or supporter's role is. coach cannot spend all his time organizing this or that to feed 80-100 people or finding someone to pay for this kids new cleats. He would spend all day tracking that down. Get involved in your own program and I think you would be surprised how you can help. May even give your coach more time and energy to do just that...coach.

RedRider1I think a lot of coaches put off this air that they're "unapproachable," and that's just not how it should be.
There's meddling, and then there's asking "how can I help?" -
5knotsWell put RR1. And as far as the kids go. I think they appreciate walking off the field at 9pm and being told "good work" and "thanks for the effort". I know I did back in the day. We had our share practice fans as well.
-
1_beastWell stated fellas!! Live the dream, you have a special thing over there!!!

You misunderstood. Our program has a "Football Moms" program that prepare snacks and food for camps and visiting teams. Believe me, we get very involved, we just let the coaches do their job and not add any distractions during practice. This is a very important bonding time for coaches and players to let it all hang out. We have all the time in the world to talk afterwards.5knots;850857 wrote:I am not condoning being in the way. Bloody ToothbrushAfter reading the description of 5knots role in the Orrville program, I believe I would classify him as a "hardcore booster". Someone who is willing to do whatever is needed whenever it is needed. This type of individual is not uncommon in programs that have a tradition of winning.
Things start to get misunderstood when you try to define that kind of a role. Even my attempt at a definition sounds a little creepy. The more you try to define it or defend your position as one....the worse it sounds.
The bottom line is......Do your thing. If you're not trying to armchair quarterback and you're not breaking rules of any type. Then your contributions to the program and tradition are valid.
Best of Luck to the Riders in '11. The OCC is gonna be real entertaining this year. -
OQBWill we be seeing bloody at any Orrville games this year?

RedRider1I had a picture of Buddy Garrity ready to post....but apparently the comparison doesn't need made.
Best show on TV. The final episode was one of the best single episodes of any TV show I've seen in a long time.
When does 5knots sports bar open for business? -
