Be NiceSeriously, I could care less who wins this game. Many of us won't attend even if we had free tickets, free food, free gas and hotel rooms. Many coaches, many administrators and many fans are tired of a "system" that needs fixed.
-
5knotsI hope they draw about 200 for this one!
-
Be Nice^^^exactly my point and we all know why.
-
OQBHope we get to play one of you next week...good luck!

darbypitcher22I think Kettering finds a way to get it done. Its too tough to pick against them at this point in the year. They have the experience to this point that Hartley does not

ts1227Game will be played in Piqua, according to the OHSAA bracket (they issued the sites for the Friday games a little early)

Why are you not a fan of private school kids sorry that parents actually want their kids to have a education and actually care about them. I bet you just dont even care about your kids thats why you send them to public school and not give them the education you want them to have wow -

Caring for kids and quality educations are not exclusive to private schools. Bad argument. -
5knotsThe problem with this debate is this:
People who normally would think the same on other topics and agree in most situations cannot for the life of them see the other person's point of view here because vast majority of public schools in the State of Ohio do a stellar job of educating young people and most of those districts are what most would refer to as "rural" . It is a no brainer to some near urban areas that anyone with half a brain would send their kid to a private school with all the other "good" kids. I am not fan of that at all...it is a cop out imo. Jesus didn't hang around with just the good guys...in fact just the opposite....oh don't get me started....I think you see my point...you won't agree, but you see my point. -

So all the kids that your child is friends with that are not in private school are stupid along with any kids in your community not enrolled in your program? The only way to get a good education is at the private school? IMO you send your boys there to be on a stacked team so they get noticed for college football. -
justcompeteI tend to disagree. Columbus and Dayton city schools are horrible. Look at the graduation rates.

That's not entirely true. College scouts will find you if you are good. Take Alter grad Nick Mangold for instance. Alter had an overall losing record during his 4 years there, including a 3-7, a 2-8 and a 4-5 record. OSU started recruiting him during his junior year and the rest is history. From 1985-2000 Alter made the playoffs 4 times, going 1 and out 3 times and 3 and out once. Not exactly a stacked team history. During that same time, over 50 Alter football players went on to play ball in college.Go Riders;571041 wrote:So all the kids that your child is friends with that are not in private school are stupid along with any kids in your community not enrolled in your program? But I see your point about players obviously getting noticed more when the team is winning.
I was hoping this thread would be more than a public vs private debate. The fact is, the OHSAA football playoffs is what it is and Alter and other privately funded schools are permitted to compete against teams that are publicly funded.
To get back to the game itself, it looks to be a good game. Hartley is coming off a big win over Ironton who beat them during the regular season. Alter is coming off an exhaustive win over the high-powered Kenton Wildcats. I'm pulling for my Knights to win and hopefully meet up with Orrville in the finals.
Also... there were over 6,000 people at the Alter-Kenton game. Probably won't get nearly that many this Friday, but there will be plenty there to watch this game.
Finally, a couple Alter videos from earlier in the season:

HeathAlum21Alter by a bunch. Heath was going for the winning drive in the 4th before the turnover bug hit them. Stop Key and you win ,and Alter will be up to the challenge. 42-14 Alter.

Be NiceThis Friday the wife and I are going out to dinner with the neighbors. On Saturday we are going to Dayton to watch Hilliard Davidson play. What a great team. That's a team the doesn't recruit and plays by the rules. A hometown team with hometown boys on it. As usual there will be the 4,000 plus fans from Hilliard attending the game.
-
OhioStud22I love how no one gives Hartley any respect going into the playoffs they said they were going to lose Amanda the first game of the playoffs but loook at them now they are in the state semis Hartley is never going to get respect from anyone they beat and did a pretty decent job containing the QB from Heath that is really good and the QB from Alter is just like him and the team revolves around them and Alter also runs a similar offense as Ironton did against Hartley but whatever though no one has to give Hartley no love , Hartley loves going into games as underdogs and everyone coming out to get them and hating on them because as you saw last game against Ironton called Hartley soft and that they werent physical and it was going to be a blow out and that was all the inspiration Hartley needed to beat them as you saw from the turn out of the game...By the way not that it really matters just bringing up some past games Alter got whooped by Chaminade Julienne and CJ barely beat Thurgood Marshall and Thurgood Marshall got whooped by Hartley we will see who the better team is this week though good luck to both teams and pray its free from injury game

Be Nice^^^son, you are allowed to use periods. If I'm not mistaken you guys have a very good running back. What area of town or the state was he recruited from. Any idea?

I'm sure I'm not the only one tired of reading your posts on your hatred of the private schools. We all get it! And for your information, Noah Key (the running back) is the son of former Hartley grad., David Key. Yes, there are private schools that do not do things the correct way, but for every one that you name, I'll name a public school that is questionable as well. Hartley does things the right way. And just a question... with all these private schools giving away scholarships left and right, how do they possibly stay open?? And with that said, how do these private schools get so good any way? They just convince families to drive miles away to their schools because they're building a private school power house? Really? Give me a break. Don't be mad because kids that would be going to public schools end up CHOOSING to go to a private school because they WANT to be a part of tradition, not because someone said I'll pay this much for you to go there.
I'm interested what you would think if you saw the percentage of Hartley's students that attended a Catholic grade school. And what would be even more interesting, if you saw the percentage of Hartley athletes that attended Catholic grade schools. And I'm positive it's not even close to what you think. -
Be Nice...but are you sure, coach? lol
Seriously, I'm not mad. Not at all. If they want to recruit then so be it. We all know this gives the privates an unfair advantage.
You don't like my posts? That's fine. You have the choice to not read them. My feelings won't be hurt. However, you must realize many, many public school coaches, administrators, players, parents and fans feel the exact same way I do. -
HSFootball#1FanIs that all you can say? I'm really wondering your thoughts on that? Do you have a problem with a private school that draws kids from it's own catholic grade schools?
