Is it time for private schools to have theyre own playoffs in football

soupcitysoldierGoing to let you guys in on a little secret in the Mahoning Valley that has yet to come out...Dan Reardon is leaving ursuline for Warren G. Harding, he is taking the two linemen from Niles with him, and there maybe another lineman transfer due to the coaching change. Dota is gone. Breaking news at its best. The money was too good to pass up. You heard it here first.

rmolin73Hopefully he can turn that program around

I find it hard to believe that any public school would bring in players -

I hope its true .. I want to see the public schools take back theyre teams and compete at the state level again... lets get rid of these all star teams they have in place ... -
rmolin73Then stop getting players from WV. Better yet why doesn't Big Red stop dropping state level teams to pick up pansies.

lol I hate the republican party how can you call me a fascist lol -
VikingSchools like Warren Harding and Canton McKinley will benefit if D I is split and the mutiplier and divider (free lunch count) is used. Schools like Buchtel might slip a division and really benefit.

Are you trying to say that if a kid gets a free lunch, he shouldn't be counted in enrollment for football? The NFL is full of kids who came from poor backgrounds. -

You freaking kidding right now?!?! How does it feel being the biggest hypocrite?!? I'm not believing the story...yet. But if true, you basically are completely fine with a coach leaving a private school and bringing kids from one district (Niles) to a different district (Warren). And you see no problem with it. Let me ask you this: if the story is true, and the coach at Boardman ends up taking the job at Ursuline and three stars from the Boardman team transfer to Ursuline to stay with their coach...what would your response be to that?!? You would be losing your freaking mind!Thinthickbigred;629613 wrote:soupcitysoldier;629481 wrote:Going to let you guys in on a little secret in the Mahoning Valley that has yet to come out...Dan Reardon is leaving ursuline for Warren G. Dude there are a lot more schools that would benefit than those three. The sad thing about it is the same schools will win where as the schools that are fading into obscurity will continue to do so. I also highly doubt that it will be both a split of d1 and a multiplier ohsaa won't make a move so bold. -
Thinthickbigredsherm likes throwing around names on here I wonder if he will be admonished as I am so often.... Id like to call some peole pieces of trash and things like that .. He has called me all kinds of names ... I get called a facsist ...racsist ..piece of trash ... LOL some of these catholic school boys must have learned there ethics from the school of Sien Fane....On the matter of that Ursulin coach leaving . I really dont give a crap and wasnt really thinking about the two boys he stole from Niles ...and it doesnt matter nayway cause the private schools will always have an advatage .. Id just like to see Warren Harding and Fitch and Boardman keep all there boys and Niles and Poland and struthers and Campbell and Y. East and etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc .. I am tired of the Youngstown Monoploy you guys enjoy ... If you are going to have a free hand at picking your team like an all star team then both your schools should atleast be D-1 plain and simple ... You guys just want to keep killing all these smaller divisions and loading your trophy case ... While public schools are under scrutiny there is no way to govern a private school .. BECAUSE THEY ARE PRIVATE ... they can lie and lie and we cant proove anything because they are allowed to give free tuition to whomever they like ... and you guys come on here and brag about how wonderful it is to give the inner city kid a free ride to a good school ... but i submiy its all about FOOTBALL and you dont give near near as many inner city girls freee scholarships ..and dont tell me you do because its horse poop .. You guys have double standards and you play by your own rules ..... it is time to kick your schools out of our tournaments ....

see I feel like it should be ... We as public schools have a governing body . the private schools really dont ..They have to in a sense play by the OHSAA rules ,but when it comes to recruitment ,it is almost impossible to imply wrongdoing by a private school .. On the other hand if one kid of decent athletic stock transfers to another public school ,there is an investigation or alot more scrutiny at the very least involved ...Football is a cash cow for many many schools private and public . they support all the other athletics with the monies they bring in mooney and Ursulin pilfer the best HS football players from the Y town area every year . They have been doing this forever.. Its really not fair ... Its tired and its old and it stinks ..its time to seperate ways .. Its not a fair system point blank. -

Did he kidnap the kids? When Niles had their glory days, they had many players from St. Stevens and Mount Carmel. Did Niles "steal" those kids from the private system? Or is it only "stealing" if a kid goes from public to private? -
VikingAs I have been saying for months, change is coming. There is an article on the front page of today's (1/9/10) Akron Beacon Journal concerning the proposed changes. Three major factors will determine the placement of each school. They are: "socioeconomics "(free lunch count), "geographic reach" (open enrollment), and "athletic tradition". There won't be a "Super Division" at this time. Read the article for all of the details. The changes will start to level the field. Schools like Buchtel, Firestone, and Maple Heights will benefit from the proposed changes. The votes are there. Change is almost here. IMHO, it isn't enough of a change, but it is a start and it is a move in the right direction.
Embrace the change! -

In the old days public school recruited without impunity . then the playoff system came in the rules tighted up . Is it a coincidence that Massillon has not won a on field title since the playoff format came out? Its no coincidence the private schools have since taken over . you cant catch mooney or Ursulin . if a public school did the same thing they would be sanctioned ,and it has happened to McKinley and Massillon and Warren and others over the years . You guys get a free pass or at the very least it is much MUCH harder to catch you guys doing wrong .....Its almost impossible ... You cant see that???? This is ridiculas... I talk to biased idiots that i know and some of those guys are so biggoted and biased and two faced it sickens me . Get sick of hearing how undisciplined inner city schools are and the constant rip on the kids that go to these schools as being garbage ,trash or thugs.. but when they go to a catholic school ... well save the day .. Its the great coaching at these schools that saves these kids.... I see why Ursulin comes out and does warm ups like Yougstown South and East used to do .. its simple it appeals to the kids that they want to recruit ... Its crazy . Over half the team wouldnt normally go to that school . say what you want .. I am not politically correct and I always pull for the city school ,say dont make any rash judgreements on my character.. i am not anit catholic . I am not racist. I have no agenda I dont hate anybody , I just dont like the system and its hypocracy .. I dont like alot of your schools hypocracy . I do however know that it is a money thing ... and we all know what that means ..Is money your god? -

As you are so often? Get a clue. You sure do spend a lot of time worrying about other people on this site. Here's an idea, worry about your posts, let us take care of anyone else. How's that sound? Fair enough? Thanks. -
VikingMaybe somebody can post the link to the article. The article is on the front page of the paper (not the sports section).

I'm not even sure where to start. I played at a public school, so I am not quite sure what the "you guys" reference to means. Youngstown South closed 20 years ago. I asked this before, but why doesn't the Catholic "advantage" hold up in Steubenville? You said it was because of Reno. Maybe a coach is more important to a program than whether a school is public or private.Thinthickbigred;630745 wrote:In the old days public school recruited without impunity . then the playoff system came in the rules tighted up . rmolin73Also since Ursuline has been doing it forever why could they not beat Youngstown East in the 80's and 90's? Ursulines success can be attributed to Youngstown going from 6 public schools to 2. Once again the schools that win will continue to.

Exactly. Why was Mooney 5-5, 0-10, and 5-5 my sophomore, junior, and senior years there? Did we just not get a good recruiting class those years?
And let me ask you this thinthick...if private schools have such an advantage, and can bring in all the athletes that they want, why is it just Mooney and Ursuline's football teams that are good? Why don't they bring in star basketball players? Why aren't the baseball teams constantly competing for a state title? How come their tennis and golf teams aren't always in the hunt for the state championship? If it's all about the money, wouldn't they be trying to get all the money possible out of all the sports? If the private schools bring in whoever they want, and they have been doing it for years, why do they only care about doing it for football and not for the other sports?
