DIVISION 1 STATE CHAMPIONS Hilliard Davidson def. Cleveland Glenville 16-15

coyotes22GO DAVIDSON!!!!!!!!!!!

mlisi39The way to beat speed is to run right at it. Look for Davidson to set up the misdirection with a lot of straight down your throat early. Look for Glenville to crowd the box with as many folks as possible and let Latwan Anderson play center field. His play will allow them to take some chances with run blitzes. This will be a VERY physical game up front.
Davidson 24-21. Much like Mooney in 2007, Glenville will wonder why they have no kicker. -

Nah, will never happen. Davidson doesn't run muchmlisi39 wrote: Look for Davidson to set up the misdirection with a lot of straight down your throat early. -
SQ_CraziesI'll take Ginn too--for getting players to the next level, making good highlight tapes, caring about his kids, being a celebrity, talking his kids up, and padding stats. But if you're talking about winning games, I'll take Davidson. Ginn SHOULD win with this team, but I'm skeptical of his ability to coach them there. He should have already won a state title with all the talent he's had--but they're all track stars that need coaching. He isn't a great coach if you're talking X's and O's. I'm not trying to say anything bad about the guy, he's GREAT for his kids. He cares about them and he works very had to get them to the next level so they can get out of the slums of Cleveland and he should be applauded for that, but if you're asking me to pick this game I'm going to take Davidson.
Plus, isn't this the first time a Cleveland Public school has ever made the state finals? -
september63Well said. I am still taking Glenville. You, however, have hit the nail on the head, excellent post. Everyone wanted to say just that and you just did. I couldnt agree more with your post, other than Im going with Glenville.

Totally agree! Coaching will be key in this game. And in terms of gameplanning and getting kids ready to play regardless of circumstances, there's no one better then Coach White.SQ_Crazies wrote: I'll take Ginn too--for getting players to the next level, making good highlight tapes, caring about his kids, being a celebrity, talking his kids up, and padding stats. SQ_CraziesI can't lie, I don't know much about Davidson at all. I don't even know much about Glenville this year and haven't followed D1 much. But that's how it is with Ginn. But I hope no one takes me the wrong way--he is absolutely GREAT for his kids. He gives a lot of kids a chance at a better life that may otherwise not have it. Winning is nice but that's really what it's all about.

ss7I don't care what this game looks like on paper. I never bet against Brian White. This game could go either way but I fully expect Davidson to bring home their second championship. They are so good at controlling the game. I think Davidson will control the clock, take care of the football, win the field position battle, play good defense and win the game.

CthelitesHilliard goes all the way!
Go Cats bring another Title back to Hilliard! -
HDchampsGlenville is bigger stronger faster. But davidson is Smarter and will come into the game so well prepared davidson for sure
-
september63HD might control the clock, and their coach may be a great one. THE big play factor from glenville will win this game!! You ppl saying HD will play smarter football are not giving Ginn, Sr. the credit he deserves. Good athletes alone dont win football games. Glenville beat Iggy, is Coach Kyle not smart?
-
HDchampswith the style that Davidson plays i think that Glenville will get flusterd and do stupid things i have seen them get stupid personal fouls penilties out of fuestration and keep Davidson moving. Also there dbs are very aggresive and will come flying up and that is when davidson will hit them with a big play action pass for a big gain

That is a possiblity. I think the intrigueing part of the game is how Glenvilles' defense will handle HD's offense and if they will not overplay the offensive scheme.HDchamps wrote: with the style that Davidson plays i think that Glenville will get flusterd and do stupid things i have seen them get stupid personal fouls penilties out of fuestration and keep Davidson moving. HD will struggle to contain Glenville while they are on offense. HD is a great team but they have not faced the type of athletes coming at them Sat. night. I know they played Brookhaven, but Brookhaven does not have the d1 talent that Glenville has.
If, and it is a big if, Glenville can force some 3 and outs they will win this. IF not it will be a long night for Glenville.
I love this matchup two completely different styles and styles make fights as they say in the fight game. -
rmolin73LMBO september63 now that is classic

Coach Kyle is clearly pretty smart, but if you leave the ball on the ground half a dozen times, being smart doesn't help.september63 wrote: Glenville beat Iggy, is Coach Kyle not smart?
If Hilliard turns the ball over once or less, they win this game. More than that, it's Glenville. -
rmolin73Or Glenville will play to their ability dominate the game.
-
tank2nastyIf Glenville plays to potential they can dominate this game, but this is Glenville and they always find a way to choke!
They are the D1 equivalent to Dover! -
SQ_Crazies
If you think Ginn Sr. is a genius when it comes to X's and O's then you are the one who isn't smart. If he was they'd have a state title at Glenville by now.september63 wrote: HD might control the clock, and their coach may be a great one. THE big play factor from glenville will win this game!! Way to go Cats! White and staff gets EVERYTHING out of his kids. While I was starting to doubt after the botched punt snap, the Cats NEVER did! Thanks to Ginn for for passing instead of letting your 6'6" (or whatever he is) to fall forward! But the Cats played lights out D and SOMEHOW didn't let the explosive offense of Glenville put up many points.
Congratulations Cats! You make our whole community, and central ohio, proud. No one can take away what you've accomplished and it will be a memory you cherish forever. Thanks for giving the parents and community the opportunity to go along for the ride.
Glenville, along with Elder, Colerain, Mentor, and in a way St X just keep shaking their heads at how Davidson does what they do.... keep it close and usually WIN. Teams just never see Davidson coming. You got the feeling during this game that Glenville thought their "athleticism" would be enough. One also gets the feeling that Glenville wasn't prepared for the subtleties of Davidson's game (2-point conversion, etc). Glenville was undisciplined and it hurt them.
Say what you want, but no one should question or dispute what this program and these seniors have accomplished! Davidson just keeps plugging away, plays lights out D and executes in the clutch. They simply Believe!
I watched the game in person, but I still don't know how Davidson could EVER move the ball against those giants on the D line for Glenville. They were just attacking our O line all night... but somehow we got the key blocks, and reads from Jake, that we needed. Amazing!
By the way, I understand OHSAA's desire to protect the players and the students by keeping fans from rushing the field... I really do! But the execution of that policy by the event staff and a couple of overzealous police was ridiculous! Do we really need K-9 patrol dogs barking and snapping at people? Do we really need a cocky security guard at the 50 pushing a parent (with a small child on their shoulders)? Do we really need to have a human wall of "event staff" keeping the team from going over to shake hands with their parents after winning a state championship? Again, I don't blame OHSAA, but I blame the 2-cent cop and local staff for poor implementation of a plan. I rarely complain about stuff like this, but if you were there you say how stupid it was.
Honestly, if I were the guy that got pushed (and subsequently arrested) I'd file a lawsuit for assault. He was pushed for no reason. He wasn't rushing the field. Perhaps he was running his mouth, but that doesn't give a cop the right to push someone for no reason.... especially when their is a small child in harm's way.
I'll post more once I settle down from this great victory.... probably in February!!! Congrats CATS!!! -
alaahCongratulations to the Wildcats, I would like to reiterate what FOC just said thanks for giving the fans and the community the opportunity to go along for the ride. It seems every year as my own sons teams finish their season I know I get to see a few more weeks. I was unable to be there for the game last night but caught the fourth qtr. What a great show. Hilliard Davidson football team is a true testament to the word "TEAM".

PicktownHSCCongrats to the 'Cats. (Hey that rhymes)

Congrats on your teams 2nd State title. Davidson played with alot of heart & soul and deserves all the accolades they will no doubt receive.
However, I think calling Glenville "undisciplined" is pure bush league and uncalled for. Nobody, I mean nobody makes it to the OHSAA D1 state title game without being highly disciplined.
Also, the event staff has a job to do & an insurance policy to adhere too, so lawsuits can be avoided. Imagine what could have happened if the adult with the toddler on his/her shoulders would have run onto the field and mingled with a bunch of celebrating teenagers in full pads.
I've seen first hand how many fans come up with broken noses, missing teeth, twisted knees and many other ailments after being allowed too rush the field or the sideline. Then afterward they decide the venue owes them money for their own stupidity.
I understand the elation and excitement factor after a big victory, but it's not a free pass to access the sidelines and field.
I have been to a bunch of championship games since 1991 at both stadiums and I would like to thank the people at both Paul Brown Tiger & Canton Fawcett for the fine job they do every year.
I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience and once again, Congrats to the Cats. -

Bush league? Really? By saying a team doesn't maintain their assignments? Have we grown that sensitive that we can't state that a team isn't as disciplined in their assignments as they need to be? Are you serious?Red Rum wrote:

I should clarify my story about the parent with child on shoulders. First, I said I AGREED and UNDERSTOOD OHSAA's position. I really do. Where I wasn't clear is that the incident I refer to happened WELL after the initial celebration. This was a good 15/20 minutes after the trophy presentation, Glenville was already off the field and there were just a few fans mingling around. This wasn't a part of a bull rush, this was well after everything had settled down. I support the decision to keep fans off the field. The incidents of which I speak happened well after and were not a safety issue in the least. Coach's wive's (with field pass) couldn't go outand celebrate with their husbands.... Even while the boys were getting pictures and thigs had settled.
Not a bad experience at all. Just a couple of "Barney's" took their plasitc shield a bit far. That's all -
judge_smalesCongrats Cat's.....two state championships by a combined 2 points....
