The only thing I have heard is that Jefferson Area has applied. I believe they would be part of the blue tier. I believe in order to move from one tier to another, there has to be at least one school willing to move up while another moves down. I would be surprised to see any moves for football, other than the possible addition of Jefferson Area. I believe tier switches have a better chance of happening with basketball. -
soupcitysoldiersounds like some of the pussy cats got their feelings hurt...o well. its facebook get over it. this is how things are nowadays. its the information age people talk spit on facebook now, back in the day they talked spit in barber shops and grocery stores. get over it. its only gonna get worst. i think the aac will stay the same for next year but the year after that it will split into a big and small division. struthers will be with the likes of poland howland canfield hubbard and i cant remember the rest and campbell will be in the small division with lakeview and liberty moving down. this is just off the top of my head. i know struthers was trying to get placed in the small division but their numbers dont allow it to make sense at this time. open enrollment is helping them in terms of the districts pockets but hurting them on the playing fields.

Size does matter provided the player can get off the ball quick and use his feet. Goodbye.Spread All Day;533896 wrote:Oh no!!! haha.
Does size matter? Isn't skill involved?
I'm sure the line of campbell looks really good against newton falls. I'm sure of it.
How did it look vs Salem? It'll look very similar this week. -
Gardens35Yes, Struthers won the SVC back to back in '67 and '68.

Ive heard struthers will be leaving the AAC might just be a rumor tho not completely sure on that. Yes open enrollment killed them. -

Wow that sucks... if they do and dont have a conference to play in they are in trouble as a independent. take it from us 16 year without one hurt us bad. anyone who is in one dont seem to do well unless your like JFK..Ohio;534181 wrote:Ive heard struthers will be leaving the AAC might just be a rumor tho not completely sure on that. Yeah East Liverpool Mooney and Ursuline are all independents but mooney and ursuline are always good EL this is a first they will probably have a couple good seasons and then drop off like JFK is doing now. I agree 100 percent they should stay in the league. I think the league is good right now maybe a few changes but i do not see anything wrong. -
oldschoolreddevIn 1991, Campbell did not have to put our first string back in. We never came out. The game was too close to do that.
-
reddevil90I could have sworn that they took some out cause of the score... and when struthers made a big comeback they had to put the starters back in. i could be mistaken... but i might have got that confused with a earlier team and different game...
I have been to many games over the years. i have missed very very few games in over 25 years. I missed a total of 6-8 games in that time.. I have sat through bad weather, and i was a t a game at home that only the parents showed up. I stated going when my brother played in the early 80's.. According to him now this his own words not mine.. He said he was a better player then half the team that was on the field.. and alot of the players sat cause of popularity. and i dont know how true that was but if he said so i believe him..
But that's alot of games to remember for me.. So if i am mistaken about 91 struthers game then you would be the one to know. cause it sounds like you played in that game.. -
oldschoolreddevReddevil 90,
I did play in that game and it was a typical Campbell vs Struthers game. We shot out to a big lead and Struthers came back it was a great game for the 1991 MVC championship.
If your brother played under Rozum, then I highly doubt that he didn't play because of "popularity". Rozum and his staff played the best 11, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Now if he played under Kish, then that is a different story.

The league will shift from a three tier league to a two tier league beginning in 2011-2012. The tiers are yet to be named but breakdown like this:
Tier One
Austintown Fitch
Beaver Local
Hubbard
Canfield
Howland
Hubbard
Niles
Poland
Struthers
Tier Two
Campbell
Champion
Girard
Jefferson
LaBrae
Lakeview
Liberty
Newton Falls
Each tier will separate into two divisions. Those have not been named yet either but will be Division A, Division B in each tier. -

Ohioin the lower tier i think it will always be Lakeview Campbell and Girard for the title year in an out.
-
BigDean1I can't see Austintown Fitch playing any of those schools in the top tier in football. Perhaps they will continue the plan of being a member in all sports except football.

I looked up the article on the 1991 game in my Campbell Football Scrapbook. Campbell led 28-0 at halftime. Struthers stormed back in the second half and cut the lead to 31-28 with three minutes left in the game. Struthers scored touchdowns on two hook and ladder plays during the rally. With three minutes left, Campbell drove 70 yards in just four plays, led by Karlin Adams, who rushed for 309 yards on 27 carries in just three quarters. Adams missed the entire second quarter due to a deep cut on his left hand. On that final 70 yard drive, Adams carried the ball three of the four plays before QB John Wolfe scored from 3 yards out. Campbell won the MVC title outright with the victory, with help of Salem's upset of Girard. Adams scored from 44, 18, and 88 yards out in the game's first nine minutes. He had 174 yards rushing at the end of the first quarter. Campbell rushed for 402 yards on 48 carries in the game. QB Jim Fox, wide receiver Anthony Skarote, and running back Brian Blazek were the key players in the Struthers rally.
I remember the night very well. It was around 65 degrees and Wildcat Stadium was filled to capacity. Adams finished the regular season with 1,199 yards rushing. Campbell and Struthers both finished the regular season with 7-3 records. But Campbell finished at 5-1 in the MVC. Struthers and Girard tied for second place with 4-2 records. Girard beat Campbell 20-13 earlier in the season. Campbell's other two regular season losses were to Howland 28-24 and to Chaney 9-0. Campbell defeated Warren JFK 32-12 in the regular season. I believe JFK came into that regular season game ranked #1 in the AP D-4 poll and top ranked in the region in computer points. But the Devils lost to the Eagles 34-6 in a horribly officiated game at Boardman in the playoffs. Campbell had 105 yards in penalties in the third quarter alone in that game. Kennedy seemed to catch Campbell by surprise in the game, starting wide receiver Antolini at QB. Kennedy was known for its passing game that season. But in the playoff game against Campbell they ran the ball very often in an attempt to keep the Campbell offense off the field. It worked. JFK had 72 plays from scrimmage in that game compared to just 30 for Campbell.
Regardless, this was another fine season for Campbell, a team not expected to challenge for the MVC title that year.
These are the Campbell players who were selected to the All -MVC first team in 1990: Karlin Adams (defensive back.....yes defensive back), Dave Vernon (guard), Jim Hazimihalis (inside linebacker), Chris Rhodes (outside linebacker). The players who made the second team: Jim Hughes (offensive tackle), Damon Love (running back), Anthony Patellis (down lineman). Dom Thomas and John Hostal were honorable mention players. Karlin Adams was selected player of the year for his efforts on both sides of the ball. -
realdeal6Karlin was one of the many great back's Campbell had in that era. Talk about a stable of running backs lol....27 carries....not to take anything from j'ales, but this man carried the ball 19 times less and played one less quarter...If im not mistaken he went on to Boise st?
-
soupcitysoldierstruthers wont last in that tier...
-
Wildcat pride 10struthers football wise probably wont, that's what open enrollment can do for you.
-
realdeal6I think whichever team can effectively run the ball wins the game...Campbell as of late has showed promise of a ground game to go along with a solid game through the air...However, struthers has a few pretty good backs of their own...this really intrigues me and im looking forward to see which team is able to control the line of scrimmage come friday night in what should be a dandy..
-
BigT761I cant wait for this game i have been looking forward to it since last friday. I am just curious to see what campbell team we are going to see this week.
-
OhioCampbell needs to get a scouting ohio for hughes get him some looks going into next year.
-
cmhs_prideI want everyone from Struthers to understand something. If you cannot tell from my posts the history I have followed in this rivalry then shame on you. Not talking about the moron from Ursuline. That in itself speaks volumns. I am done here. Again I have too much respect for this game. If me telling my rival their going down is too much trash talking, well I guess I apologize...... No I don't. We play sound and we play hard with determination and take nothing for granted.... We will walk out of there victorious!!! Looking forward to a war gentlemen.
-
reddevil90it has been the same thing all year. If campbell gets into a pickle they get real tough in the late quarters. the only time i seen campbell get bushwhacked was in Salem. I give it to Salem. We played the game plan that should have won. But toothman did something he didn't do up to that point. he was throwing with perfect accuracy. we forced him into throwing and he burned us. it has not happen again and wont. i love to see Stuthers throw the ball with our corners.
Pride i dont apologize for talking smack with struthers. Why cause its mandatory!! If you dont and are offended by it your not a fan of the rivalry!!!!!! -
