WEEK 8: GIRARD ( 5-2 ) AT CAMPBELL MEMORIAL ( 6-1 )

  • BigDean1
This game could possibly determine the AAC-Blue champion along with some significant computer points for the winner. Girard will be playing without standout wide receiver Landon Smith. Campbell has a few dings here and there. Your thoughts?

High scoring but i can see this game going either way. Campbell has to stop Landon Smith and Hughes needs to be able to throw the ball with accuracy. Should be a good one game of the week i believe. Wheres this game at?

The game is at Campbell. Landon Smith will not play in the game on Friday vs. Campbell.

I'm just glad to get out of champion with the win. That team had some speed. Ja'les could not get outside without someone meeting him. defense played phenomenally. I'm sorry but i seen to many freebies thrown champions way last night. But we won and that's how Campbell needs to play every game. They hit like they where on a mission. Girard will be a hard fought game. these two teams are evenly matched. Without there star receiver gives a edge to Campbell. Lets do this Campbell hit them hard and often.

Well. Look for Girard to run the ball!! I see a different o from girard this week..
That being said. I take the Indians 14-0

landon smiths suspension is under appeal so we have to wait and see if its overturned...who knows with the ohsaa....i dont see girard running the ball, they had a difficult time running the ball against one of the worst teams in the valley. theyll still try and pass, how effectively will come down to if smiths on the field. bottomline...this is the championship game we have to win. home playoff game and conference championship on the line. interested to see where we stand after this week, we picked up a ton of computer points.

Word is he is playing it was appealed.
  • reddevil90
I just read the post over there looks like he is playing. Does anyone know who this spread all day is? he is a cocky little egg!

It looks like Girard is to Campbell what Lakeview is to Salem. Good luck, but to be honest I have a feeling Girard is going to come out ahead.
  • reddevil90
wow no respect for being 6-1. and we beat a very very good south range team and a champion team. Salem out coached us. and to be truthful we had one game plan and that was to make toothman throw the ball! reason was he had 9 or 10 interceptions to just 2 touchdown passes! going into that game. take that away and what do you have a 6-1 one team that didn't get there from stinking. I'm proud of our devils. its not easy being 6-1 in any conference. if girard wins hats off to them they are the better team. and here is a tid bit Campbell has only lost one game at home from last season to this season.
  • BigDean1
The Campbell community and student body needs to show up for this game. Fill the place up and get behind the Red Devils !!!!
  • soupcitysoldier
im confused...how is he playing...just because it was appealed? doesnt the appeal have to be considered? i dont have a jjhuddle name so wasnt able to read the link. but ohsaa rules explicitly pronounce the rule for "unsporting conduct" and the suspension. just confused here.

Here is what ICBM wrote on jj. I trust what he says.

It was an incorrect interpretation of the rule. He should not have been ejected. The error has been corrected. He will be playing Friday. Fortunately it did not contribute to the final outcome. I have to say that was the OLDEST officiating crew I ever saw and it showed in their calls including the error in ejecting Mr. Smith.
    GO GIRARD

I can say this....ICBM and myself have known each other for a few years now. If he thought Mr. Smith should have been gone he would say so. He would not stick up for a young man who absolutely deserved punishment for his actions. So maybe Mr. Smith's actions were not as bad as Niles folks I talked to thought they were. Fact is this, he is playing.

Gentlemen we are 6-1. It's nice to argue how to improve on that.....Is it not? It's nice to argue about play calling at 6-1..... is it not? It's nice to disagree with who is on the field and who is not at 6-1....is it not?

We have endured a long time of what I consider nowhere near what Campbell football is all about in this town. Over the last two years the signs of getting back to our roots are showing. But we are not quite there just yet. Two things:

One, we need to win the big game. Salem for example saw us hang in there and fall apart in the second half. It happened two or three times last year as well. This game here once again is the big game. The one you have to have. Somehow we need to take this game and move to the next level of winning the big game to get back to Red Devil football. And you guys know what i am talking about. You can recall people saying "Wonderful, we have to go to John Knapick field next week. Hope we get out uninjured, and lucky enough to get a win." That is the mentality we need to provide these teams with again.

Two, somehow, someway soon....WE NEED TO PLAY FOUR QTRS!!!!!!! I am not seeing 4 qtrs of football. I am seeing shining moments followed by let downs. Example, we score......and then the other team almost everytime goes down the field and scores. Have you noticed that? What is that all about? We need to focus, refs or not, Champion was left in that game way too long. Our defense would come up with huge plays.....#52 interception for a TD.....and then give up a 56 yard run one series later. Toothman threw the ball all over the place. Have you ever seen the team we play next week throw the ball?? I am telling you right now we had better lock in and concentrate because this team is going to throw the ball 45 times next week. They are going to throw it to #17....... 26 or 27 times alone.

Guys i am not saying i am not happy we are 6-1. I am being a realist and the reality is this......if we play like we play against the lesser teams, Brookfield, Liberty this year, Even Champion who is overrated if you ask me, we will be 6-2 after Friday. And once again our two losses will be against opponents that everyone says should beat us. Which means to gain the respect some of you want when you talk on here.....we are going to have to earn it. Not by squeaking past Brookfield. That will not do it. We need to go out against a Salem, Girard, Lakeview, or even and i know you may laugh...POLAND, and we need to smack them in their mouth. There was a time that happened. It needs to happen again. You know when we will all know we are back.......when they want us out!!!!!!!!

I agree with everything Pride posted above. It's right on. Also, I would rather be the Campbell team that defeated Girard with Landon Smith than the Campbell team that defeated Girard with Landon Smith unable to play. Beating them on Friday with Landon Smith on the field will not allow any excuses to be made. This will be a big challenge. Don't be led on by the fact that Girard barely defeated a weaker Niles team. Girard nearly beat Hubbard. And Hubbard beat Salem by 17 points earlier in the season. Girard will be a formidable opponent. Our defense is going to have to step it up. The front seven will have to get after the Girard QB. Girard runs a spread offense, very similar to that of Campbell. There is no doubt in my mind that Girard will be watching the films of the Campbell-Salem game. If Campbell can run the ball like they did against Salem, which will open up the passing game, I'll feel good about this game. GO DEVILS !!!!!!!!!!!!

i just dont think he should be playing...if it was a campbell kid ejected then i know hed have to sit. actually ive seen it happen, but then again i know there is a guy from girard with big ohsaa connections so that probably attributes to it. campbell has to double this kid they cannot let him beat them. you have to make someone else make a play
  • soupcitysoldier
and if you read the rule book its "unsporting conduct"...and if the player plays in the next game the team has to forfeit the game. this story coming from icbm seems to have some holes...ohsaa heard the appeal on a saturday? and it was resolved in a couple hours time? not sure this just seems like some shady stuff went down with getting this kid out of his suspension.
  • Spread All Day
Landon Smith is one player. Yes, a very talented player. But if you can't stop 1 player with 11, you don't deserve to win.
That being said. If he plays i see more trouble for the Red devils..... standing strong on my prediction. 14-0 indians.
  • reddevil90
I was told they had film and uploaded it to ohsaa and that it was proved not to be as serious as the refs made it. We was not there so after last weeks officiating i witnessed. i can say that it was probably not as bad as what the refs made it look.
  • BigDean1
Let's put the Landon Smith situation behind us. To tell you the truth I am looking forward to seeing him play this Friday. It should be a great game. I also was told it is the MYYTV Game Of The Week. So, we'll get to watch it twice................once in person, once on tv. I would really like to see a huge Campbell turnout for this game. Girard is going to bring alot of fans. Campbell fans need to fill up the home side seats.
  • reddevil90
Yes they do BigDean! And come on guys lets cheer like its 1989! Lets get this party started. this is the big one. Girard needs this game to have a chance to get into the playoffs. Campbell needs this win to have a chance at a home playoff game. and also there that little AAC blue championship thing that they give away to the best team in each conference. LOL come on devils fight fight fight. We need to win this one big for respect.

If campbell can get a couple turnovers early they could get the W. But if they turn it over early it could very easily go downhill and fast.

For the "older" Campbell fans: Remember when Zetts was the HC for Struthers he would always use that one "special play" against Campbell every year and it always worked. Well since becoming Campbell's OC, he has yet to call that play. Friday night would be a great time to use it.

Good luck to the red devils this week!!!
