Week #3, Orrville (2-0) at Copley (2-0)

  • BRF
I can't believe you guys forgot about the Brenner INT that saved the game! Good thing gr8qb08 came over! Man, I wonder what 30 incomplete passes adds to the time of a game?! 71 attempts? That's crazy! That has to be up there for a state record. Beat Copley!

Fella's...it may be time to pull out the "Go Big Red" signs for the windows on the car and make the trip to Copley. There is no way I'm traveling to Ellet this week. Is this a 7:30pm kickoff at Copley?
  • 5knots
pretty sure all games are 7pm including Copley. Love to have you CC. Looks early on like week 10 might be a dandy.

5knots...I like that, a "Coach Haley" defense...nice ring to it. LOL.

I think if we just come out and play our game and minimize mistakes we will be fine on Friday!

    GO RED RIDERS!

The most I threw in one game was 51 and that was in my first start. My arm felt like rubber the next day!!! I can't imagine throwing 71 passes in a game!

It's no surprise our LB's are getting looks at some top programs....he knows how to coach linebackers and he knows what kind of defense he want to play. He likes to put the pressure on an offense and if we can stay healthy we have the speed and caliber athlete to do just that. I remember Coach D saying when I saw him at the Big 33 game that Coach Haley got an unsolicited compliment when the coach in charge of coaching Ohio's Lb's said about Hoobler to Doug, " I don't know who's been coaching this kid up, but whoever he is, he knows what he he is doing." Bingo

Ellet can't be that much further. IMO, if you are planning to go that way, go support your team. After all, it's only week 3. Wait to be a band waggoner after week 10! ;-)

As long as Lichti takes care of the ball throwing it I like our chances in this one. Remember only a soph. and only his third varsity start. I think as long as we can continue to run the ball with some success that will help out Lichti and take pressure off of him. I thought overall last week he played really well. As far as the defense it played with a lot of energy last week disrupting the Triway offense all night. I think coach Haley does deserve a lot of credit. Being an assistant coach myself (another sport) I think sometimes assistance coaches do get over looked at times, but trust me they are right there with the head coach helping make tough decisions and getting the kids ready and prep for the upcoming game every week. I think all the coaches on the staff need to be praised for the work they do each week and getting paid very little. As well as coach Devault he has done a great job as well. Okay, you have all heard I am sure of the "Steel Curtain" defense in Pittsburgh. Well I am going with "Haley's Red Curtain" defense of the Orrville Red Riders. Roll Red Roll!

Coach...you said a mouthful about the assistant coaching staff. They do it for the "love of the game" for sure and we have some dandy ones! It goes a long way to why Orrville Players have such fond memories of their time in the program. We have been blessed with great staffs for as long as I can remember. Let's hope the "red Curtain" can contain Copley and take the pressure off young Lichti and the offense as they develop.
  • RedRider1
I like the "Red Curtain" name...maybe it sticks. I'll do my part.

Watched game on RiderTV last night....Lichti had a great game, but did throw 2 picks....both seemed like bad reads. Luckily, the good outweighed the bad. Not going to pick nit, it was his 1st varsity start.

I think the run game needs to have a big night. Would like to see Mason get some carries that aren't FB dives.

I know what you are saying RR1 about not nitpicking. For a soph and first start and big big night he was awesome. Coaches and teammates put him in positions to succeed as well. Drew's catch on the end zone was an example. Defense shutting down the Titans sure eased the pressure of every play. O-line pass protection has been stellar. Good news is that with a start like this at his age......and with the talent coming back.....he could be a dandy!
  • RedRider1
I'm predicting that with a win this week...we hop to #1 in the region. Triway ought to beat Waynedale and Northwest is due for a win too.

What a cushion a 3-0 start would build for us....hate looking ahead, but it would be so big.
  • OQB
We have always played a brutal non-conference schedule, and everyone, coaches players and fans were happy coming out 2-1 sometimes 1-2 depending on how good those teams were. With that strength of schedule we are able to get a 5-8 seed pretty easily. To get out of this 3-0 would be HUGE, because we have always gone 4-3 or better in the OCC. I'm not making any predictions this year but this has the making to be a very special season.

5knots; one of my football teammates at Malone has a little brother from canfield who was at Michigan this past weekend. He told me he saw the Orrville kid and looked like a good ball player. Small world lol.

I remember seeing the Canfield "red". It was pretty easy to spot in the sea of blue! Small world indeed.

I think this season could be like the 2005 season where there were low expectations and the season was very good, if it weren't for those horrible calls against st. V. In the first round.
  • 5knots
There are two "wild cards" to this season. The first being health.....we are not deep....depending on who is out from one week to the next could make a big difference, the Second is the QB. If Lichti settles into the role and give us above average QB play we are in good shape. We have the building blocks there for a very good team, I would agree. Speed, decent size, above average skill players.....and of course that Red Rider Tradition!
  • OQB
Yes, I believe Lichti is settling in to that starting roll at a good pace. The coaches and players around him have put him in good situations, and if they keep doing that he will grow as a QB. If he can command attention and has the leadership for this offense, we will be just fine. But he is a sophomore who is going to start only his 2nd varsity game, anything is possible.

I was thinking of the Orrville/Copley game because I know it will be more competitive.

We'd love to have you CC. Stop by the Brown RV's and we'll even feed you! we'll be there by 5pm

Last 2 weeks I've played soccer in Copley and this week were in Wooster and football is playing in Copley. Next year I hope they coordinate with my schedule. LOL

The Preview....check out the video at the bottom...the Akron Beacon "staff" discusses the game. We're reminded why they're a newspaper company and not a video production company.

Also, read the link to an Akron area site called SportsInk.com.....they say we havent seen a QB like Copley. Too funny. That's all we've seen so far is QB's who sling it all over the field.

How hard is it to do research for these guys?

  • OQB
Most sports writers have no clue about what they are writing about, or do not do any research at all to give decent game previews.
  • RedRider1
^^It took me maybe an hour to put that together last night. Not very hard....especially when you WORK for a newspaper company that has bountiful info/stats at your fingertips.
  • 5knots
Nice link...thanks RR1. At least the guy who seemed like he knew more about football picked us. I will give the tall fella named Mike Blevins a hard time when I see him. He gave our Boys swim team all kinds of ink this winter at the District and State meets and then he goes and picks Copley to beat us in football. He must think we are a swimming power only! hahahahahaha!
  • rrfan
5knots-Do we even have a swim team? I know we had some swimmers but thought that was a club team. I don't keep up that much on Swimming or Soccer. Anyway, I think we need to take a step back and see how the year developes before we punch a ticket to state. We beat NW who is 0-2 and Triway! Lets not inflat young heads. Focus on Friday because it is a big game and will be very tough.
