That's a huge plus...Coach D will work to get the kids an opportunity...the rest is up to the kid. We'll have 10+ Rider graduates playing college football somewhere next year.5knots;399659 wrote:We have a head coach who can pick up the phone and call about every major college program in the entire Midwest and be recognized. On top of that he will work his butt off to help you find the right fit for your college career both on and off the field.
THAT'S how tradition works. -
RedRider1PS - I think we need an Orrville thread.
-
riders1Anyone hear about Dover, New Philly, Northwest , and maybe Shelby joining the real OCC and going to 2 divisions in the league ? DR guy?
-
THE4RINGZI think all the teams you mention would be a good fit in the OCC.

5knotsFrom the Orrville thread...interesting...

ORRVILLE -- No transfer will draw as much attention in Wayne County as when a student-athlete trades in Blue and Gold for Red and Black, or vice versa.
Three-sport standout Stewart Turner Jr. has decided to make just such a move. He's transferred from Wooster to attend Orrville, where he'll be a junior this fall.
Turner made it official earlier this month and the wide receiver-defensive back has been participating in Orrville football workouts and practices since.
"They moved in right after the July 4th holiday and turned their enrollment papers in that Monday or Tuesday," Orrville football coach Doug Davault said.
"I called (Wooster coach) Mike (McCreary)," Davault added. "I felt bad about it because it wasn't anything we did. (McCreary) wasn't happy and I know I wouldn't have been happy either."
Turner, a 5-foot-10, 165-pounder, caught 20 passes for 490 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore last year. Wooster compiled a 5-5 record, including the school's fifth straight loss to the Orrville program he's now a part of.
The Riders are coming off a 9-4 season in which they advanced to a Div. IV regional runner-up finish.
Turner also lettered in basketball and track at Wooster. This past spring he had an area-best 22-2 1/4 long jump and ranked among the leaders in the 100-meter dash (11.0) and 200 (22.6).
After the Red Riders' completed their preseason strength and speed testing Monday night, Turner explained the decision as a combination of factors.
"We had been renting (in Wooster) and were told our house was going to be put up for sale and we'd have to move," he said. "My family and friends were looking and couldn't find anything in Wooster.
"My uncle had been trying to get me to go to Orrville for awhile and we found housing there, so the family just decided it was better for me to come here."
Turner, who paced Orrville with a 4.4 40-yard dash time in testing Monday, said some of his former WHS classmates took the news hard.
"I told a lot of them and a bunch of them were giving me crap," he said. "I'm moving on and I have a bunch of friends here to help me and push me."
Wooster's McCreary declined to comment on Turner's transfer.
Orrville has had several student-athletes transfer over from Wooster in recent years for various sports, including offensive lineman Kameron Barnes, who now plays football for West Liberty State. Others from Wayne County had been rumored to be thinking about transferring this summer.
"We had a number of kids who I heard were talking about going to Orrville over the summer," Davault said. "It's a touchy subject. The bottom line is it wasn't because of anything we did that (Turner) moved here. I don't want anyone to get the perception that Orrville is recruiting, or anything, because we never talked to him."
At the same time, Davault said that if someone wants to come to Orrville they don't want to discourage them.
"Things are different than when we were in school," Davault said. "You didn't buddy up with the guys you played against. Even at the pro level they do it, with guys like LeBron (James) and Dwyane Wade.
"We feel like a lot of good things are happening at Orrville academically, athletically and our facilities are some of the best in the area. From our class of 2010 we had eight kids sign national letters of intent -- four of them full rides. The combined GPA of those kids was 3.2."
Turner may prove to be that caliber of athlete, too, but it will be as a Red Rider now. -
thePITmanI do feel really bad for Turner and his family and the situation that set all this in motion. I heard that just a few weeks before appearing at Orrville's football camp he was playing in the College of Wooster basketball shootout for Wooster! It's gotta hurt with a kid being torn like that, but I'm sure he'll be welcomed with open arms at Orrville. Good luck to both Orrville and Wooster this season!

They may not have recruited Turner, but the methods they used on the others that they didn't get? Hmm.. -
THE4RINGZAt least his father's records at WHS will continue to stand. That is important.

Go RidersOfficial Rider football begins on Monday and I was beginning to wonder if it would ever get here! The team graduated a gifted and fun to watch class. We thank them again for the playoff ride of last season. This year the riders face new position challenges and so do our opponents. I have to believe the riders are not the only team in the OCC that has graduated key players from last season. The riders look to develop a leader at the qb spot during the next 2 wks. and I am confident the coaching staff will have an answer for those who don't believe we will be able to throw the ball. The skills testing from last week clearly showed that we have improved our team speed from last year. The riders will bring a very formidable backfield this year. I believe many will be surprised that for once in a long time we may not have to rely on the passing game for a win. The transfer of Woosters Turner will strengthen offensive, defensive and special teams positions. This team clearly understands they have large shoes from last season to fill and they more then anyone do not want to disappoint the rider faithful. Last year we entered the season as favorites to win and go deep in the playoffs. This year it seems many want to rule us out. Maybe the underdog position will turn out to be just what the riders need for inspiration to win.

THE4RINGZShould be an interesting season in the OCC.

thePITmanIt sounds like Orrville did pretty well at their scrimmage against Minerva Saturday morning. Turner had a long TD run on an end-around. Here was a Facebook comment from the Orrville Red Riders Sports Blog page: "Scrimmage is done....thought we looked good. Infield (senior) and Lichty (soph) alternated at QB, both had their moments. Stewart Turner had a long 70-yd. TD run, Tre ran well, defense looked good but gave up some long runs. Plenty to work on I'm sure, but so far so good."
I saw Wooster last night. They were OK. QB #10 looked pretty good. As a team, not great, but not bad. I left around 8:00 PM, but heard shortly thereafter Duke Price went down with what looked like a knee injury. I'm not sure of the specifics, but from what I was told, it didn't sound good. Any update? I hope it was not as seriously as initially indicated. Good luck to Wooster this season! -
thePITmanWord is that Max Pirman of Orrville broke his foot and will be out for part of the season. Posted 2 days ago:

RedRider1It wont (or shouldn't) be that long.
-
CCRollyNo word on Duke Price from Wooster yet....
-
Old RiderA second opinion and closer look at the MRI revealed no break in Pirman's foot. He is expected to only miss 2 weeks...thats good news for Rider country.
Since this is and OCC thread I will go ahead and give my predictions.
1. Asland
2. Orrville
3. Clear Fork
4. Wooster
5. Lexington
6. West Holmes
7. Mansfield Madison
8. Mansfield Sr.
Its a toss up for the 5-8 spots. -
THE4RINGZThis is the first I have seen someone rank Wooster at #4. I think they have a nice squad and depending on whether or not DP is 100% it could be a possibility.
-
RedRider1Is Lex going to be down this year?
-
CCRollyI just got word that Duke Price is doing alright and the injury wasn't anything significant. Thank heavens....
-
THE4RINGZ
I know he typically takes his shots and hobbles around but he went down hard on Saturday. Glad it is better than it looked.I just got word that Duke Price is doing alright and the injury wasn't anything significant. Thank heavens.... -
thePITmanThat is good to hear.
-
Old RiderRR1...I just think they had a bunch of talent there for a while and most of it has graduated and they werent deep at all last year.
-
THE4RINGZBump for opening day.

CFColtsIt was a tough night for the Colts. Losing 39-22 to Sandusky. Good things it's only week 1.
