Move the finals to Columbus!!!

The biggest problem with the games IMO is having them during the day. 11am start times, 3pm start times, that is B.S. High School football was meant to be played at night under lights. Maybe they could do the games in 3 different locations?

Also, please save the argument about "well I like to go watch all of the games". These games are not for you, they are for the players and schools playing in them.

    OHSAA disagrees with this. $$$$$$

There would be little drop off in attendance. Most of the crowd at these games come from the participating schools and therefore they would be at the game anyways. If you had two games on thursday, friday, and saturday night it would not make too much difference except that the kids would get the true experience.

Eh..I'll have to disagree with you there. I'd imagine there would be a pretty good drop off as far as attendance is concerned. There is a ton of people that come to the games to watch all 6 games that have no affiliation to any of the schools playing.

I attended some of the Big Red games in the 'Shoe back in the 1980's. Even though we brought 10,000 people with us, the place still looked empty. Let's keep the games in Stark County where they belong.

^^"The place still looked empty"...seriously people I've read this excuse many times on this thread. Are you there to watch the games or look at the fans? What a stupid excuse.

Not saying anyone is right or wrong but here's how I see it.

I've now been to 8 State championship games in the past 8 years. 4 at Fawcett, 4 at Paul Brown. I have never disliked one moment while actually at the games (unless of course we're talking about unfortunate outcomes of the games).

Playing at 11am sounds shitty, but I've associated daytime high school football with being in the state championship game. Two reasons why: 1. Mooney never plays day games, so its rare and special 2. It has that college football hype to it.

If you poll 100 HS players that have never played in the championship game before or never played in a packed house at Fawcett or PBTS, a lot of them might say the Shoe would be better. How bout we ask the kids who have actually played at those venues in big time games and see if they would trade that atmosphere for The Shoe filled to ~10-20% capacity.

I would drive to Juneau, Alaska to watch Mooney play in a title game.

Stark County has a huge HS football following, as do a lot of close teams.

Columbus plays some of the sorriest HS football in the state. Buckeye country =/= HS football fans.

I think the rotating idea is worse than the Columbus idea.

Maybe some of you should spend your time trying to get the College World Series moved out of Omaha while you're at it.

Have you ever watched your Big Red in Stark county during the playoffs in the last 20 years?(maybe ever?)

You have alot to say about how things are done in OHIO but you don't live here so you have no say!IMO

That's logic you use when you have no actual valid argument.

We're not in the 20th Century anymore.
I think Central Ohio football has evolved to be one of the more competitive areas in the state. Big schools (reg 3 and 7)

Wasn't that the same argument used about the North/South game, and now that event has went to hell.

The committee met and visited Stark County on Wednesday, they will be visiting Columbus on Tuesday.
wrote:The race between Stark County and Columbus to land a big football contract might be a dead heat.

Committee members representing the Ohio High School Athletic Association waited out a thunderstorm Wednesday before touring Fawcett Stadium. The committee will visit Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Tuesday before deciding who will be awarded a three-year contract, covering 2012-14, for the state championship football games.

OHSAA Commissioner Dan Ross said the selection committee will meet June 9 in advance of an OHSAA Board of Directors meeting. The board might vote on a recommendation the next day, or — if the committee concludes it needs more answers — as late as August.

Based on Ross’ comments Wednesday in the Fawcett Stadium press box, it sounds like a dogfight. Stark County is the incumbent, having played host to the state title games for two decades, splitting games between Fawcett Stadium and Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon.

“Right now,” Ross said, “what I can tell you without any reservation is we have two very, very good sites. Two very, very good tournament management organizations.

“We don’t have to ask the question about how they do it here because they’ve been doing it for 20 years, and doing it very well. Really, we don’t have to ask that about Ohio State, because they have a lot of tournaments at Ohio State.

“Tournament management-wise, they’re both going to do very well. Both of the venues are fantastic. The people involved with both are very, very good.”

What would it take for Columbus to pry the games away from Stark County?

“We decided we weren’t going to delineate that out until we got done with both sites,” Ross said.

A contingent from the Canton-Stark County Convention and Visitors Bureau played host to selection committee members. Architect Rod Meadows, whose Stark County-based firm designed the massive press box that opened last year, reviewed stadium improvements. The biggest: A wall at the bottom of the south grandstand is being replaced.

Tim Ridgley, representing Massillon, reminded the committee that Paul Brown Tiger Stadium’s seating capacity is being increased to 18,000.

Ross threw Stark County a compliment in identifying one key element the committee is considering.

“We want this event to be for kids, families and communities a benchmark event,” Ross said. “I think they’ve done a very, very good job of making that occur.”

You have an awfully big mouth for someone who has nothing to say.

krazie45;367843 wrote:Not having it at Crew stadium because of grass is just plain stupid IMO. Not many teams are going through the playoffs without playing at least ONE game on grass. Crew stadium would be the PERFECT venue

That has nothing to do with it.

Try playing a game on a field that's been used twice that day already, particularly if it's been raining in the last few days. Or, for the Saturday teams, play after it's been used three, four, or five times already.

No need to change something that is working.

People are tired of having to travel to "Polka Country" to watch football. Hopefully the OHSAA has the good sense God gave a Goat to see that Columbus has way more to offer in terms of travel, lodging, restaurants (that don't all serve either Perogis or Lasagna) and extra curricular activities over the sphincter of Ohio, Canton / Akron.
  • GoChiefs
Just seen today where if they move to Columbus...OHSAA will lose $200,000 dollars in revenue. Sorry, Columbus. It ain't happening now!
  • ferflog
I've seen State Championship games in Ohio Stadium. They stink. Plainly and simply. That may be one of the reasons why they got them out of there in the first place. Massillon and Canton work just fine.
  • ferflog
You wouldn't see this if the games were moved back to Columbus. It'd be like playing in a wind tunnel.

Can't seem to conjur up any logical reason to move the finals so this is what you type? Sad.

If it weren't for all of the ground work that "Polka Country" laid, football would be an after thought in Ohio, a secondary sport, like Indiana and Kentucky. As I said before, travel is the only argument there is, anyone who uses lodging and/or restauraunts as an excuse is either a 12 year old girl or a candy ***.

How is improving the travel. lodging and restaurants not logical reasoning? Last person to leave the Rubber / Rust belt plaese blow out the candles cuz' you ain't gonna have any electric lights in that hell hole in a few more years.

But they'll still be coming here for the High School football championships. :)
