Why do we hate other schools?
-
MANAZEI've been thinking about this. Why do people hate other schools? I've been really trying to think of a REAL reason and I can not think of one. And I'm not talking about people who left one school to go to another for whatever reason. I'm talking about people like me who grew up through the same school district.
When we put down other schools because of "facts" does it really make you feel better about your school? This really comes down to ego. Football around here is so big that it is kind of scary what people will do to be good at it.
We forget that when we talk bad about these other schools we really are just hurting the kids in the school. I hope that the teachers and anyone else who works in these schools are there for the kids. Lets face it teachers are not making hugh money.
So next time we get into an E-fight over what school is better lets try and remember the only thing that seperates us from them is where our school district line falls. I am a Creeker but I could have easily been a Big Red or a Buckeye.
Respect.

Most of the hate comes out of jealousy of teams that are good. You don't see many people hating a 1-9 team (with the possible exception of backyard rivalries). I don't think most fans hate. I think it is a small group that gives certain fan bases a bad name.MANAZE wrote: I've been thinking about this. Why do people hate other schools? Sometimes it comes from when a school gets 2 dads jobs in the system and their sons happen to be good quarterbacks so they play for that school and after graduation dad moves onto another job.Al Bundy wrote:

Classyposter58Haha dude its called rivalries. One team breaks your heart enough you grow to hate them and in all good rivalries both teams break each others heart equally just as much. Jealousy also plays a big impact. Ill tell ya I hate Eastwood and when we beat them in 2007 at home ending their 5-year league title run that was the greatest thing ever
-
skankI'll do ya one better, I hate a whole league.

THE4RINGZWhat the hell are you talking about rider1?

bwcomet89Most "hate" is a friendly rivalry between two schools. As a Genoa alum, there has always been a rivalry between Lake and Oak Harbor because they are closest to us geographically. It's mostly because neighbors, family members, and friends play for the other team and want to win for bragging rights. Sure there are outliers, but most people after the game are friendly to one another.
The other "hate", imo, is between two schools that battle on a yearly basis in each sport for supremacy, and the whole "Alpha school" is maximized. In recent years for me, that is Genoa/Eastwood in almost every sport. A lot of bad blood there because both schools think they are better than the other. I love every moment of it though, there is nothing better than beating a hated rival. -
sonofsamPersonally for me, its the way you are treated. (and yes I am VERY guilty of it myself) I have said many many times that I love the game of football. I don't care WHO is playing, I just enjoy watching the game. I bleed the red and gold of Indian Creek and I am not jealous of or envy anyone else. I love my history with IC, I love the memories, and I love my Redskins. If I make it to my 80's I will still be attending games there because to me there is nothing better than watching your alum play High School football on a Friday night.
I try to follow all the area teams as closely as possible because like I said, I am a fan of the sport. I used to support "that other team" in the valley when we didn't play them, but because of the treatment on here I now refuse. I have been called a "wannabe", jealous, and envious and I am NONE of those. When my team is done playing, I look throughout the valley to keep my hunger for football fed. It just seems like whenever you have something nice to say, people can't understand that its not out of jealousy or envy and they push and push until there is not other option than to push back. -
MANAZEI would never let someone on the internet switch how I feel about something. they are just a small percent of the world and they are only saying what they can say because there is really no way to know who they are. Other then one school in the area most of them are very close to being the same as the next (and no I'm not talking about BR being the different one). Just because there are jerks on here don't let that stop you from cheering the local team in the playoffs or regular season when not playing Creek just because of these guys.
-
bwcomet89I always root for local teams come playoff time. It may feel weird to root for a rival, but I always like seeing home-town schools succeed.
-
skankMy wife gets on me about my hatred for other schools/teams, but I tell her she just doesn't understand, since she was raised in a family that didn't even realize that sports existed. She went to Michigan with a group of women from the church a few years ago for a womens something or other, and I told her when she gets up there to stop in Ann Arbor and take a piss on the stadium, (she just rolled her eyes and shook her head). I really believe that a certain amount of hatred is what makes the game fun, I mean, be honest, when the Bucks play Meatchicken, doesn't Buckeye Nation get more pumped up than when they play, say, Northwestern? Purdue? Indiana? I know when Massillon plays Mckinley the atmosphere is electric. When Massillon played Perry in 99, there was an enormous police presence, ALL IN RIOT GEAR, no joke, riot gear. That to me was fun. I've said before that I love when Massillon plays AT Warren, simply because I have NEVER been to a game at Warren when I didn't feel like I was going to have to fight my way out of the stadium once the game ended, I love games and rivalries like that.

KeithHating another is a waste of time, energy and emotion. At Fremont Ross we have two big rivals, Sandusky and Findlay. Do I hate them? No, I actually respect them. But I also want to see us beat them more than anyone else, in every sport, every year.

I'll be honest, for me, my hate towards other schools, is usually fueled by the adults....not the kids. -

sjmvsfscs08I hate Toledo Christian for myriad reasons. For starters they're a bunch of self-righteous punks for the most part. Then there's the infamous "FOR HIM/CHRIST FIRST" shirts that are just obnoxious. The football announcer, who is also responsible for said shirts, is equally obnoxious. It goes on and on and on. Everyone hates them. Not just my Stritch-favoring self. When I was at Maumee Valley, they hated Toledo Christian; when I was at St. Francis, they hated Toledo Christian too.

Hatred for another school is made up of years of intense competition, not a win or a loss. I think the hatred that you speak of is understandable when a few generations have gone through it. It is not real hate, but you want to put them on their ass when your get the chance.MANAZE wrote: I've been thinking about this. Why do people hate other schools? It may have been conveyed to the current players through family discussions/remembering the past games. It is not all bad.
If you don't have a passion for the game, don't play it. -

You wouldn't think it would be that way but I did not misspeak. Just huge bold font FOR HIM on the front and CHRIST FIRST on the back. Ugh. I want to puke just thinking about it. And this is coming from a guy who is waking up in seven hours to go to mass and spent twelve years in Catholic or Christian schooling. I'm a fairly big Jesus fan, but I'm not a fan of marching around on a mission to rub my religion in every opponent and spectator's face. It's obnoxious in a subtle manner (now there's a paradox haha).MANAZE wrote:

The funny thing is I know plenty of fine people form Toledo Christian, but the school itself still presents an incorrigible image.
