  It's watered down...but somehow they didn't have the D-League and huge leagues all around the world when Wilt Chamberlain was playing...shit, they didn't have it when Jordan was playing.

  Again...you people of the younger generation have a distorted view of what yesteryear's basketball was all about.
  
  Half of the players on Minnesota's team would be flipping burgers or selling shoes at Thom McAnn's had they played in the 60's or 70's. Are they good basketball players...yup. but only the very best of the very best made the NBA.
  
  Back then the top 150 players wore NBA uniforms. Today the top 460 players wear professioanl uniforms.
  
  The same can be said for the other major sports as well.
  
  People like Billy Cunningham, Bill Walton and Hondo Havlichek were 6th men coming in off the bench for much of their career. Ponder that over for a few moments.
  
  I'm happy that you enjoy the NBA today so much. But none of you 20 somethings have any clue as to the talent that comprised the NBA, whenever they had 12 to 16 teams.

  Another thing nice about mallymal's list of talent is that almost all those guys played on the same team for more than 10 minutes, so the fans wouldn't need a scorecard to keep track of who was still on their team day to day.

  MJ had the one thing that all player wish they could bottle. The ability and desire to do what it takes on the court to win the ring. Look at some of those early teams he won with. After Pippen (and even he stunk after MJ retired and was supposed to carry the team), those rosters were filled with role/averae players at best. MJ had a motor and mojo that no one could stop, and he carried his teams at times on his back.
  
  Wish a certain player in the league would learn how to do that too.

  But yet, it took Jordan 7 YEARS to win his FIRST title...
  
  It's easy to look back and see what he accomplished, but his career was VERY much like LeBrons currently up to this SAME exact point of their respective careers.

  The problem is that most people remember the '96-'98 MJ that lived off of fadeaway jumpers. The pre-'94 Jordan got to the rim ANYTIME HE WANTED in a league that was much more physical than today. The '87-'90 Jordan would average 40 ppg in this league. No doubt in my mind.

  MJ would win because he was so competive he would have found a way. He changed him game 96-98 because he was getting older thats a sign of a great player. Jordan also knew to let him team do some of the work until the end when he took over. Jordan also did this in an era when handchecking was allowed could you image what he could have done without getting handchecked all day.

  Pippen did not suck by the way. When Jordan retired to play baseball he took over and had a great season and woulda made it further in the playoffs but he pouted when phil jackson choose to let kukoc shoot the final shot and not him. Pippen was one of the best 5 defenders at his position ever. Pippen was a top 20 all time player. Thats like playing Pippen that he didnt have reat season when he was old and over the hill except he was still a top 15 talent for most of those years.

  LOL at anyone who labels Rodman an "above average" defender. He won back-to-back NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards in '90 and '91. He was a fucking monster defender in his prime with Detroit. I've never seen anyone with that type of drive, ever. And there never will be. No one in today's game could touch a top-of-his-game Rodman on the defensive side of the floor. He's arguably the best non-center defender all-time. At least top five.
  
  Rodman owned that era.
  
  That's why Athlon named him to its 50 Greatest Player list in '97. Which Rodman was robbed of by the NBA itself, and we all know why.
