Monta Ellis claims to be 2nd best player in NBA

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=mc-afterthebuzzer032610&prov=yhoo&type=lgnsWhile Rolling Stone recently declared Kevin Durant(notes) better than Kobe Bryant(notes), Warriors guard Monta Ellis(notes) has his own opinion on who should be ranked as the NBA’s three best players.
“I’m going to say LeBron James(notes) [third],” Ellis said recently. “He can do it all, pass, score, defend, block shots. No. 2, I would have to say, me. I can do a whole lot of things: defend, score, make passes, do whatever I need to do.
“No. 1, I’d say Kobe Bryant. There isn’t one player that can stop Kobe one-on-one. He has a lot of stuff. He can defend. And of course, he won four championships.” -
Lovejoy1984He's barely the best player on his team.
-
hoops23Exactly, lol.
The thing I found most hilarious is his claim that he can "DEFEND and PASS"... I didn't think Monta had those two elements in his game? haha..
I mean, if he did whatever he had to do, I'm guessing the Warriors would have more than 20 wins..
Ellis probably isn't even in the top 3 players in the state of Cali right now..
Kobe, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Tyreke Evans, Stephen Curry, Baron Davis and Eric Gordon are all players I'd rather have. -

I think everyone on this board can agree with this.LTrain23 wrote: Exactly, lol.

Don't forget Kaman and Bynum. I'd take either over Ellis.LTrain23 wrote:

He's a good player though. Personally, even though he's wrong and nearly EVERYONE would agree with this--I have absolutely no problem with him saying this. First of all, he was answering a question. He didn't just come out and say it. And that's how he should feel, if you want to be the best the first step is believing your the best. You have to have that attitude to be on top. So I have no issue with him saying this, other than I agree that he is wrong. If I were a coach/GM/owner/fan of him or his team, I'd want him to feel the same way. And then try to back it up. Good for him.
One thing I do see in this though, NBA players are scared to "disrespect" Kobe. I think the general consensus is that LeBron is the best player in the league now--it should be anyways, Kobe has obviously taken a bit of a step back and LeBron has only taken one forward. But it says a lot about Kobe for players to still respect him and really just fear him the way they do. -
thedynasty1998I don't think he could find anyone else in the world to agree with him other than his mom, but I really don't have a probllem with him saying that. You've got to love confidence even if it's not logical. And for some reason, I have a hard time believing that he actually believes himself to be in the category of top 10 players in the NBA.

FootwedgeMonta Ellis is despised by many GS fans. He is a poor shooter, and one of the absolute worst shooters in the league behind the arc. He also is prone to a lot of turnovers.
Ellis will most likely be traded after the season is done....mainly because Morrow and Curry are better guards than Ellis is right now. -
Hb31187Ellis isnt the 2nd best player hell no.
But some of you are making him sound like a bum...Hes a damn good player
And Footwedge do you ever get sick of being wrong? 33% from behind the Arc isnt good...but its not terrible lol. If you want the worst 3pt shooting guard in the league, go watch Andre Miller -
SQ_CraziesHe's 34% from behind the arc, which is better than Kobe. I wouldn't call him one of the absolute 3-ball worst shooters in the league. He averages 3.9 TO's a game, Kobe is 3.2 and LeBron is 3.45. You don't call them turnover prone. And he averages 25 PPG. Give the man some credit at least.
All of these stats can be found on ESPN.com or NBA.com, useful tools to help your cred FW. Or you could join the big leagues and refer to real stat sites. -

sleeperI lol'd. I doubt he was being serious, I mean Kobe #1? This isn't year 2000.

Did you look at his career numbers? Less than 31%. Those are awful numbers. I don't post opinions without checking my facts first.SQ_Crazies wrote: He's 34% from behind the arc, which is better than Kobe. And I know a few people personally that are close with the Golden state situation. Trust me. They cannot stand Monta. Morrow and Curry will be their starting guards next year. -

30.8% career. Pretty sad. People in the Bay area want the guy traded. The Warriors probably have won more games with him injured than when he plays. If you're gonna take your obligatory shot at me, then get your facts straight.Hb31187 wrote: Ellis isnt the 2nd best player hell no.

Cleveland BuckMonta Ellis is a volume shooter just like Kobe, only Ellis isn't half as good. He scores 25 a game on 22 shots. He's talented, but he's not a very good shooter, and gets stats by dominating the ball for a bad team in a wide open offense. If he was forced to try and fit in for a winning team, he would score 12 points a game and probably come off the bench.
-
FootwedgeLOL.....This from a Warrior Blog Site. Good God, they can't stand him.
http://www.talk-sports.net/nba/sucks.aspx/Monta_Ellis -
cviewMonta Ellis is a damn good player.
I lol'd at the pass part. For all we know, he "can" pass. I just don't think anyone has ever seen him actually pass the ball. When I watch Ellis or JR Smith play, I see the same thing. The ball is either going up or it's going the other way. -
SQ_CraziesWhy the hell am I worried about career numbers? Monte Ellis isn't basing what he said on the past--he's basing it on this season. He's clearly improved his game this year and he's a damn good player. You don't average 25 a game if you aren't a damn good player in this league. The list of people to have ever averaged that in a season is filled with stellar names.

The Warriors also lead the league in scoring I believe...and they play no defense. But what's most telling, their team absolutely stinks to high heaven.SQ_Crazies wrote: Why the hell am I worried about career numbers? Monte Ellis is not well liked in the Bay area...and most of the fans want him gone. Review the blog that I posted.
The Warrior fans love Curry, Morrow, and the D-Leagers (Williams in particular) that were brought up. They cannot stand Monte Ellis.
For Ellis to make such an outrageous claim...in being the second best player in the league....pretty much sums up how messed up and selfish he is. -
FootwedgeAnd for what it's worth......raw rookie Stephan Curry has far fewer TO's, a much higher free throw percentage, a higher overall percentage from the field, and a HUGE positive percentage versus Monta Ellis on 3balls.
Ellis is not even the second best player on his own team. A team that blows.

SQ_CraziesLOL, what does it matter if the people there don't like him? You can't say he isn't a good player, period. Because he is, period.
And who cares if he says this, what would you expect him to say? I'm the 50th best player in the league? If anything the question that led to this answer was probably the most bogus part of this whole story. -

Bingo. This is QFT.Cleveland Buck wrote: Monta Ellis is a volume shooter just like Kobe, only Ellis isn't half as good. He scores 25 a game on 22 shots. Monta Ellis is a "GOOD" player.. Borderline average.
If he was on a team that ran a traditional offense, he wouldn't be averaging 25 a game.
You can't always look at traditional stats in some cases. -
SQ_CraziesDoesn't change the fact that he does average 25. He's still scored all of those points. He's a good player, no where near average.
