Brady Quinn to Denver
-
Pick6lol..browns fans are so touchy. Honestly, this guy had no where near the success brady quinn had in college. What makes you think he will be any different? Its not like he had 2 of the top WRs in the nation to throw to.
-
krazie45personally I don't go off of college success (or Tim Tebow would be going #1 overall)....all I say is go on youtube and watch highlights from both at ND. Clausen has a stronger arm, better presence in the pocket, and puts more balls on the money.
Not to mention that this guy has been groomed on the fundamentals of being a quarterback for a while. He worked with a QB coach in high school and was the #1 recruit. The only thing I question with Clausen is his attitude/ability to lead...but as far as physical ability to play quarterback he's got it. He has an above average arm and throws one of the more accurate red zone corner posts I've seen. If he's available I have no qualms about the Browns taking him at #7. -
sleeperI wouldn't mind Clausen, but I don't want to use our first round pick on a QB. If he falls enough where a team might want to pull the trigger on a trade for the Browns to come back into the first round to grab him, then I'm all for it.

This is just part of their plan to trade down for Tebow! Mark it down.Fabio wrote: ESPN said a 6th round pick in 2011 and a conditional pick is 2012. -
sonofsamI haven't read through the whole thread but here is my take on this trade. First I am a DIE HARD Broncos fan. I am skeptical of Brady Quinn being the Bronco's trigger man... However, ANYTHING is Better than "Master of the 2 yard out" Kyle Orton... I am hoping that with the different system, Quinn can actually be a competitive NFL QB, but I have my doubts. I would have much rather that Denver trade up to get Colt McCoy instead.
As far as Cleveland goes, I think they made out on the deal. There have been great players drafted in the 6th round (i.e. Terrell Davis) and Cleveland may be able to find a sleeper and they also have the 2011 conditional draft pick. Quinn really had no home in Cleveland. Whether the system was wrong, the Coaches were wrong, or the team was wrong, who knows... But what I do know is that they got Jake Delhomme. They have a veteran that knows how to win and they are able to draft a QB, start over and have Delhomme groom him. I hear they are looking to get either Bradford or Clausen... I don't know if they want to try their luck with another QB out of the Notre Dame system, but no matter what happens, it has to work out better for Cleveland than Quinn did.
Peyton Hillis is actually a running back, but was forced into the role of fullback at Denver and rarely used. I think most of that had to do with the fact that Denver has a plethora of running backs. Benefit for Cleveland though because Denver builds running backs like a factory. I know they have Jamal Lewis, but he is aging. Hillis could be there a long time and really produce for the Browns.
As it sits right now, predicting the future, Cleveland made a great trade to get rid of excess baggage and aquired potential. Denver on the other hand looks like they may be hoping a bit more than they realize. I think they may have made another bad QB deal that will take a few years to iron out. -
FootwedgeBradford or McCoy. Do it in the firsat round if need be. Delhomme is 35 years old. You can't win the NFL without a good quarterback.
I don't think Clausen is the right choice. -

Well then, you have something to look forward to because you just upgraded to the "master of the checkdown and the THREE yard out" Brady Quinn.sonofsam wrote: However, ANYTHING is Better than "Master of the 2 yard out" Kyle Orton.. -

thavoiceIm gonna root for Barbie Quinn to do very very well.
If only to piss off browns fans! -
BR1986FBCouldn't care less if Quinn DOES do well in Denver. I just know he WASN'T going to do well HERE.
-
thavoiceI think if he does well in Denvera and clev doesnt do well then lots of people will be pissed.
maybe not at quinn, but at the organization for how it was all flubbed up.
Cowher said it a long time ago when asked about his qb competition (he had two players up for the job) and said...sometimes when you have two qbs u dont have any.
BQ didnt really get a chance to succeed. Ya gotta go through the rough parts with a young qb. He woulda been playing alot sooner to see if he was the future. instead he got marginal time and always had to look over his shoulder. -
BR1986FBHe dug his own grave. If he doesn't hold out as a rookie there's a chance he starts the very first game his rookie year. Instead, he holds out, Frye screws the pooch and then DA gives us some "fool's gold" to prolong Quinn's time holding a clip board. He did not take advantage of the chances he DID have.
-
thavoiceHold out did screw him. No doubt. but they they shoulda gotten pt earlier on
-
BR1986FBThe fact he couldn't beat out someone as bad as DA spoke volumes.
He's walking into a very good situation in Denver. Big TE with good hands (Scheffler) and a possession WR (Marshall) who catches everything (if he's not traded). If he can't be somewhat successful there, he won't be successful at all. -

This^^^^Show up for camp and win your job. Holding out spells trouble which is exactly what happened here.BR1986FB wrote: He dug his own grave. thavoiceI understand we dont see practice, or flim study and all of that.
Thing is...he never really got a chance to play and get his bearings. DA got ALOT bigger chance. They stuck with him when he was awful. I cannot rmembe.r..but I believe they were bad in Barbies first year.....shoulda played the last 6-7 games and gave him that next season. That woulda been ideal..i know..its a pipe dream.
usually when you draft a Qb in the first round......you give him alot better chance to succeed. -
BR1986FBIf they stuck with DA when he was "awful", what does THAT say for how Quinn looked in practice?
-
thavoice^^^thing is BR...in practice in the NFL the backups dont get many reps. Many of the starters get 90+% of the reps with the first offense.
That was another reason they sucked last year. He didnt allow a qb to get that many reps in practice. While a starter for the other teams were getting many of the reps the browns were breaking that up. So if Flacco gets 75% of the reps in training camp wth the first team and the others the rest..and the browns split the top two up and still give the 3rd guy a few...both of the QBs are behind the 8ball. -
KR1245I want nothing to do with any of the quarterbacks in this years draft. I'd rather stick with what we have for the next two years and then go after somebody in the 2011 draft.

Eric TaylorCleveland doesnt have enough to get Bradford.
It was reported a couple weeks ago that if his shoulder checked out and was in good shape that St Louis would take him #1. -

No I think the point that is being made here is they each had won a SB but were not very good QB's overall. I agree none of these guys were very good. Baltimore's offense was terrible the year Dilfer won the SB.Footwedge wrote:

Which actually argues aginst your point, as Del Homie is actually more talanted than several of these guys. -

This isn't a great argument for me.BR1986FB wrote: If they stuck with DA when he was "awful", what does THAT say for how Quinn looked in practice?
Look at Jerome Harrison.
Some folks just don't practice very well, but are able to do better on the field in a game.
I really did not care who won the QB job (not emotionally invested in either of them) but I also don't think Quinn got a fair shake in Cleveland.
If he "pops" in Denver, I won't be surprised at all. I will be equally not surprised if he fails.
