Derek Anderson: "Cleveland fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner."
-
SQ_CraziesUhhh...no, it's just time to prepare for another team to pick him up.
-
SQ_CraziesHow good would a lot of good QB's be had they been dicked around and stuck in a fan created QB controversy with a guy who hardly took a single snap and got their PT all messed around with after their BREAK OUT season.
-
SQ_CraziesSeneca Wallace...lol
Savior? -
THE4RINGZAs they say the most poplular guy in Cleveland is the Browns back up quarterback.
And the Seneca Wallace comment was thrown in to lighten up the conversation. -
BR1986FBHe already has meetings set up with Arizona & Seattle.
He should have taken the high road and bitten his tongue instead of flying off the handle. I do think he was right in his comments though.
When he was throwing interception after interception I too wanted to see Quinn in there to see if he was any better (he's not) but if people think that fans were cheering because Quinn was coming in versus cheering that DA was injured they need to get a clue. Knowing this fan base and their past history, I'd say it was the latter instead of the former. -
SQ_CraziesI know it was, a lot of my friends were thrilled to see him go down. I'm like...really? LOL, I mean really? One of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard.
And I don't get it either--stay in the same city. Carlos Boozer, Kobe or Michael Jordan could go down at the Q--arch enemies on OPPOSING teams--and they wouldn't get booed. How does that happen in the same city? Good example of how Browns fans in particular are just absolutely nuts. -
ytownfootballNah, really BR I know of no one who cheers a guy getting hurt. I don't buy that. That's not to condone it by any means, and attending a Browns game is far from the family atmosphere I'd like it to be, but it's frustration of a franchise's fan base that has been mired in mediocrity since its return in '99. Fans are ignorant but not to the point of being happy to see someone injured.

Unfortunately it is a pattern of failure for Cleveland QB's that has developed since their return to the league. And DA is the latest victim.SQ_Crazies wrote: I know it was, a lot of my friends were thrilled to see him go down. I'm like...really? LOL, I mean really? Like it or not Couch could have become an above average NFL QB he had the core skills to make it in the league. He was put on a team with no O lone, no direction and a joke of a head coach who didn't give two shits about his (Couch's) career, or his health. He was thrown to the wolves literally. After a couple of seasons in that system he became so gun shy because everytime he dropped back he was face to face with multiple defensive players.
Then came the one or two year starting qbs. They switched qbs nearly everytime they switched head coaches.
Finally they got a guy who showed some promise in DA and he was starting to develop into a solid qb. So what do they do? Draft a qb in the first round of the draft. The media, and the fans were calling for Quinn to start. That has to rattle the confidence of your starter. I remember seeing tee shirts being sold that read "BQ is my QB" and he hadn't even taken a snap in a game yet. How well would you perform at your job if while you were working everyone else in the company, your boss, and 80,000 people stood around and watched your every move, criticized your every move, and were cheering for some guy that just got hired to take your job?
DA got fucked by the Browns, but at least he isn't the only member of that club. -
SQ_CraziesTim Couch was a good QB, surrounded by a shit team and managed by a shitty organization. He took so much heat for it too, but IMO, he was a good QB.

THE4RINGZ^^^ finally we agree on something.

Again, regardless of the circumstances, Anderson didn't have what it took to decisively beat out Quinn. If he was so damn good, why couldn't he beat out Quinn?SQ_Crazies wrote: How good would a lot of good QB's be had they been dicked around and stuck in a fan created QB controversy with a guy who hardly took a single snap and got their PT all messed around with after their BREAK OUT season.
I specifically remember fans didn't immediately start cheering when DA was lying on the ground. The cheering started when Quinn started warming up. I'm sure there were some drunk a-holes in the Dawg Pound who did cheer Anderson's injury, but the vast majority did not.BR1986FB wrote: He already has meetings set up with Arizona & Seattle.

Wow, really? What part of this don't you understand? He didn't get a fair chance at beating him out. Quinn was never going to be denied because to the fans he was bigger than Derek Anderson. The fans wanting Quinn became a bigger story than anything else the franchise was doing--they gave in, DA got fucked. Never got a fair shot because he was working out of a hole the entire time--as opposed to BQ, who got a pass because of his fan base.BCBulldog wrote:

ytownfootballUnthinkable? Why wouldn't they? They currently have BQ and Seneca Wallace on the roster, and Quinn could possibly be shown the door as well. I think there'll be a move to secure another veteran, but if that doesn't happen I hardly think they stand pat on the fearsome twosome of Quinn/Wallace.

That's not "unthinkable" at all. There's not a QB on this roster that they should be comfortable with taking the reins. If they don't get a proven vet to start before the draft I EXPECT them to use a 3rd round, or later, pick in the draft to groom. There's a guy that I like that can probably be had in the 5th round, or later, that kinda reminds me of Joe Flacco.SQ_Crazies wrote:

SQ_CraziesPike? I agree, something about him makes me think he has good prospects for the next level. He's got that "it" thing in the pocket. Assuming you're talking about Pike, maybe not.
It should be unthinkable though--not in the 5th round, I'm talking 1st round. 5th round is fine, especially for a guy like Pike. I'm talking 1st round mainly, 2nd and 3rd even. I actually like the move of them releasing Anderson--I mean one of them had to go and they already seem to have made the commitment to Quinn. IMO, they should stick with Quinn for a few years--see what he has, he's still young. But in the meantime build that defense up--try to help the offense in FA. Build the D with the draft. Until they get a stellar defense, it doesn't matter who is playing QB.
You'd think they'd learn this lesson from the other teams in their division. -

He was named the 2008 starter!! He had eight games to keep it and he pissed down his leg!! They went 3-5 and he stunk up the field when he was on it. How is that anyone else's fault?! Especially the backup QB or the fans?! If he didn't want the heat or the pressure, then play better. He didn't.SQ_Crazies wrote:

THE4RINGZUnder the old regime they might have drafted a QB in rounds 1 or 2. Well, maybe not, because the old regime would havwe kept both DA and BQ. So maybe my argument is moot. Oh wait, here is what I am trying to say, Holgram (sp?) won't allow business as usual with the Browns anymore.
That is why IMHO this upcoming season will be Mangini's last season with the Brown's. I know it's a little off topic, but his Bellicheck games with out Bellicheck's rings aren't going to cut it in Ctown any longer. -
SQ_CraziesI actually think Mangini is a good coach.
-
ytownfootball9 TD's and 8 ints. at a 50% completion clip and a 66 rating is hardly enough to stave off a controversy.
You can't have games where you make the defending superbowl champs (Giants) look like chumps and follow it up with stinkers of your own, he was simply too inconsistent. -
lhslep134I thought Derek had a point, look at some of the stuff said on here, Browns fans are stupid assholes. He deserved to be boo'd for his play, but NEVER while being injured. Pure deuchebaggery.
-
SQ_CraziesHard to be anything but inconsistent when everything else around you is equally if not more inconsistent--including snaps with the 1st team in practice.
-

That's funny. I haven't seen a single comment on here where anyone cheered or defended cheering Anderson's injury.lhslep134 wrote: I thought Derek had a point, look at some of the stuff said on here, Browns fans are stupid assholes. I disagree. The best always rise above the rest if they are truly exceptional. Anderson withered.SQ_Crazies wrote: Hard to be anything but inconsistent when everything else around you is equally if not more inconsistent--including snaps with the 1st team in practice.
