Official NBA Trade Deadline *Moves and Rumors*
-
ytownfootballTo be fair, you can't really blame Cleveland fans for thinking a player may move on and achieve good things, it's kinda been the track record. Probably more of a fear thing than actually thinking JJ is going to be a perennial all-star. I could go down the list of post Cleveland success but is it really necessary?
JJ is athletic and puts himself in good positions offensively, but there's too much he needs to improve on to consider holding onto as a "sure thing". -
hoops23Some tidbits:
Amar'e, when asked if he talked to LeBron about joining the Cavs: "No Comment" he said, with a grin..
Amar'e was also asked during all star practice, including him, what was his fantasy line up?: "LeBron, Shaq, Magic, and MJ"... -
hoops23Also, it sounds like Phoenix is listening to two deals, that could cause this to go to the trade deadline..
Cleveland is offering the expiring contract of Z and JJ, plus a pick.
Miami is offering Beasley for sure, and possibly Jermaine O'Neal.
The thing is, Phoenix also wants Jason Richardson to be traded with Amar'e.
J-Rich would provide some decent depth, but he's also a 14 million dollar contract that is expiring after next season, which would be a HUGE trading chip for the Cavs (again)...
Miami seems reluctant to take on J-Rich, because adding him and Amar'e basically takes them out of the FA market for this offseason.. -

Sources: Hickson, Ilgauskas to Suns
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Phoenix Suns are closing in on a deal that would send All-Star forward Amare Stoudemire to Cleveland, according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations.
The Cavaliers would send Zydrunas Ilgauskas and J.J. Hickson to Phoenix in exchange for Stoudemire, one of the league's most dominant big man.
While Cleveland remains in talks with several other teams, the club, from management down to the players, has settled on Stoudemire as its first choice.
The ball is in Phoenix's court. The Suns are mulling whether the financial relief provided by Ilgauskas's $12 million contract and the young and talented Hickson are enough for them to part with Stoudemire.
Cleveland believes the addition of Stoudemire would all but seal LeBron James' re-signing with the team when he becomes a free agent this summer. The Cavaliers are also prepared to sign Stoudemire, who has one year and $17 million remaining on his contract, to a long-term contract extension once the season ends.
The Suns will likely waive Ilgauskas, which would allow him to be re-signed by Cleveland after 30 days.
Cleveland is also talking with Washington about acquiring Antawn Jamison, as well as Indiana about Troy Murphy. Meanwhile, Golden State is trying to entice the Cavs into taking Corey Maggette for Ilgauskas. -
Eric TaylorYou know Phoenix will buy out Ilgauskas, so basically what this comes down to is Hickson for Stoudamire.
I cant believe Phoenix would move Stoudamire for just Hickson.
What this deal would do if it happens is end all the talk about LeBron leaving Cleveland. -
OneBuckeyeI am not sure I would make a trade and mess up what they have going now even if it is stodamier
-
sleeper
They would do this deal because Stoudamire can opt out of his contract and they would rather get something than be left with nothing.Eric Taylor wrote: You know Phoenix will buy out Ilgauskas, so basically what this comes down to is Hickson for Stoudamire.

I like Hickson, but if you can essentially get Amare for an unproven talent, then you HAVE to pull the trigger. -

j_crazysleeper is right. I'd love to keep JJ, but there is no one else on the roster that fits the mold of what phoenix wants.
-
SageDumb move on the Cavs part.
-
jordo212000I love this move for the Cavs. And besides Amare has already said that he is strongly considering taking his player option for next year. Or at least was planning on it. Apparently he and his agent didn't think he could get any more than he would get next year (or maybe they were trying to leverage the Suns into dealing him)

Yeah, getting an all-star for basically nothing is dumb.Sage wrote: Dumb move on the Cavs part. -
ohiotiger33I think the move is good.
-
mallymal614I'm no Cavs fan, but if you have a chance to get an all-star in Amarie Stoudemire, then you get him! Shaq, Lebron, Amarie, and Mo all in the starting lineup? Which other team has 4 past all-stars in their starting lineup? The only one I can think of is the Celtics with Garnett, Rondo, Allen, and Pierce.

If the Cavs decide against Amare, apparently they plenty of other opportunities. Everybody knows about Troy Murphy and Jamison. But apparently Golden State is dangling Corey Maggette for Z too -
Eric TaylorNone of those pieces would be enough to entice LeBron to stay like Stoudamire would be.

2quik4ugod damnit please dont happen
-
mallymal614I'm shock at the number of people against the Cavs trade. It's AMARE!

mallymal614Wasn't Cavs fans upset last year when no trade went down, especially not getting Shaq. What's the difference this year?
-
gibby08Trade talks involving Amare Stoudemire have heated up between the Suns and Cavaliers -- one hangup is the Suns insistence that Jason Richardson (and his huge contract) be included in any deal.
The Cavs would likely give up Zydrunas Ilgauskas, J.J. Hickson and possibly Wally Szczerbiak, whose "Bird rights" are still owned by Cleveland. Phoenix may even be willing to buy out Ilgauskas, thus allowing him to return to the Cavs in 30 days. Such a deal could push them over the edge in their pursuit of a championship, but there's no guarantee the Shaq & Amare pairing will succeed -- it failed in Phoenix, after all.

The post was very weak and we (at least speaking for myself) knew that Z would have trouble matching up. I was disappointed we didn't strengthen that heading into the play-offs. This year, the NEED isn't as blatant IMO, so not as much clamor.mallymal614 wrote: Wasn't Cavs fans upset last year when no trade went down, especially not getting Shaq. KR1245Windy was on WKNR about an hour ago. He didnt say much but these were a few highlights:
He seems worried about what Amare would do to the chemistry
He seems to think that Jamison would be the better fit but also admits that Amare is the best move for the future
When asked to give a percentage that this goes down he said something along the lines of " appears that this trade has entered into the "likely to happen" zone"
I know its nothing new, just thought I'd throw it out there -
osu99So this trade could end up being Hickson for Stoudemire if Z is waived and comes back to Cleveland in a month? No #1? How can you not make that trade? Stoudemire will fit in just fine and they'll have two + months to work out kinks and get ready for the real season that starts in April.

Hb31187Lol i cant believe people are really against getting Amare?
