jpake...no trade guarantees a championship. Neither does standing pat. No matter how good a team is, they still have to negotiate through the gambit in the playoffs.jpake1 wrote: If you can get Amare, you do it. They would simply fuck up the rest of the NBA. I don't know if Cleveland will be champs. I doubt it at this point, much like I did last year because of the weaknesses I noticed. They've shown improvement, but you don't change my mind during the season all that much, you change my mind in the post season. I'm just anxious to hear the people that think this team is so great and don't want to make any moves right now when the Cavs don't win the championship after having the best record again. I'm sure it'll be the same things we've heard since the Magic, that had noooo chance, beat them. Some others will be saying "I told you so" because they know the difference between now and the playoffs and knew what a player like Amare could do. But hey if the Cavs stay put and win the championship, it worked their way and kudos to the ones that wanted to stay put.
Just like last year, this team is positioned to win it all. Whether they do or not, depends on how they play in the playoffs. -
wes_mantoothI want no part of any marginal deal...ie Troy Murphy.

Yes the Magic tried sloughing off of Hickson and Andy. As a result, JJ and Andy combined to hang 40 points on them.KR1245 wrote: I have to side with Devil on this one. The Cavs dont have a PF that can stretch the floor, that will hurt them in the playoffs. You could see the Magic hanging off of Andy and JJ last night, almost daring them to shoot from the perimter. This will only lead to teams being able to double Shaq and Lebron down low. Now imagine if they had a guy like Jamison on the court. He could park it behind the 3 pt line and totally spread out the other teams defense. Teams wouldnt be able to collapse on Shaq down low or Lebron when he drives it to the bucket. A guy like Jamison or Murphy would totally open things up for the offense.
I like where our team is at but if you can bring in a guy like Jamison or Murphy without touching your core then you have to do it. Keeping the lane open for Shaq and Lebron is a good thing, adding a shooting bigman does that.
I dont think that adding depth is a bad thing, especially come playoff time. If it doesnt cost the Cavs JJ and Z gets bought out this is a no brainer.
Van Gundy saying that "we don't worry about JJ Hickson" kind of bit him in the ass. -
SagePlease Lord, as a Lakers fan, PLEASE GIVE ME AMAR'E ON THE CAVS. IT'S ALL I WANT.

Amar'e to Cleveland probably won't happen but I'd take him. Its an upgrade over JJ on offense and no one knows what Amar'e can do on defense until he is forced to play.Sage wrote: Please Lord, as a Lakers fan, PLEASE GIVE ME AMAR'E ON THE CAVS. IT'S ALL I WANT. -

Not to be rude, but no shit. They don't hand out trophies, you earn them. Teams earn them by being the best team. For what the Cavs would give up, Amare would make this team better, and the best IMO. Amare or JJ? Pretty damn simple to me. Do you really think there would be a chemistry problem? Really? Who runs the show? I don't think that guy would let the team chemistry ruin their potential. I'm not saying you said that either.. I've just heard it kinda mentioned.Footwedge wrote:

jordo212000Amare would be a huge get for the Cavs.
-
I drain 3'sWhile Amare is a damn good player, he's already shown to have problems co-existing alongside Shaq. While Amare is in all-star form already, JJ is young and has a huge ceiling. Let's say Amare does end up in Cleveland. What's that do to the rotation? Do you start him and Shaq together, even though they've shown they don't work well together or do you force one of them to sit and come off the bench, something I'm not sure either would be very willing to do.

Statistics wise Amar'e and Shaq didn't have any problems. Both put up very good numbers but the Suns system isn't comparable to Cleveland's. Amar'e has basically the same ppg/rpg this season as last year. Shaq obviously had better numbers last season. But the style of play for Phoenix didn't mesh well, it will work in Cleveland.I drain 3's wrote: While Amare is a damn good player, he's already shown to have problems co-existing alongside Shaq. And I cannot stress it enough. Shaq wants another ring, Amar'e wants to be on a contender, and everyone knows LeBron wants a ring. These guys are not going to let egos get in the way. Shaq has proven that he will take a back seat to LeBron and Amar'e will get plenty of touches. Guys like Williams will not have to score 15-20 every night for Cleveland to be successful.
Cleveland's offense is perfect for Amar'e with how they run the pick and roll/pop. LeBron is the most unselfish superstar in the game, hell he is averaging 10+ assists recently.
The only thing that concerns me with Amar'e is his contract which we would need definite confirmation of him signing on. -
devil1197Per Mark Stein:
"Mavs and Wizards have completed their trade call with the league office. Deal will be announced later tonight. Seven-player swap in the end""DAL gets Butler, Haywood and Stevenson as was always the case once teams agreed Friday. WASH gets Josh Howard, Gooden, Q. Ross and Singleton" -
devil1197Great trade for Dallas imo, puts them in serious contention.
This move allows Washington to keep Jamison as a good face of the franchise for a couple seasons. -
SQ_CraziesGreat trade for the Mavs.
-
bases_loadedI thought Stern put a moratorium on trade talks and announcements during All Star Weekend...Stein says it will be announced tonight?
-
devil1197
Nothing official can happen this weekend, I assume it will be done Monday for the official announcement.bases_loaded wrote: I thought Stern put a moratorium on trade talks and announcements during All Star Weekend...Stein says it will be announced tonight?
But trade talks are going crazy in Dallas and the Mavs just pulled off a great deal. -
devil1197Interesting tweet from Michael Lee of the Washington Post
Could Washington be cleaning house completely? For the 1st time in weeks, I finally got the impression that the Wizards ARE open to moving Antawn Jamison. Dealing might not be over.
Both moves would make sense. Either keeping Jamison for some fan fare or just cleaning the cupboards. -
Hb31187lol Josh Howard has to be pissed
-
devil1197
Hell yeah he does.Hb31187 wrote: lol Josh Howard has to be pissed
He just went from a playoff team to a franchise ready to blow shit up.
But he'll just light up some weed and call it a day. -

What Cav fans say or said before last year's playoffs is pretty much irrelevant.jpake1 wrote:

Most Cav fans recognize that we had a damn good team last year, and were hoping to win it all.
Some of us made predictions that we would win it all....given our record..and average margins of victory. (last year over 9 pts/game by far the best in the league...vs 7.8 pts a game this year).
The Cavs also won their first 8 playoff games by double digits. Unfortunately, Mo Williams and DWest went relatively cold...and the Magic upped their play.
As for Stoudemire, he's a much better choice than Iguudala or Jamison. But I'll save my opinion until after the deal is made and weigh it against what we give up. -
jordo212000
That's so stupid. I would much rather hear about big time trades, then hear about some stupid meaningless garbage down in Dallas.bases_loaded wrote: I thought Stern put a moratorium on trade talks and announcements during All Star Weekend...Stein says it will be announced tonight? -
NateIf it takes giving up JJ for A'mare, you do it. Plain and simple.
-
gibby08This is just my opinion....
I think the A'mare trade would not be wise move for the Cavs
Let me explain
1.You would have to give up JJ,Z,AND a first rounder....too much IMO with how good JJ is gonna be
2.A'mare's ego is too big for him to be able to co-exsist with Lebron well
3.Shaq's production would go down...which I think would kill the Cavs -
2quik4uTo everyone saying JJ is gonna be really good is nuts lets be honest here Lebron makes him look a lot better then he really is. Its not to hard for a athletic guy to make a wide open dunk every time he gets the ball. There is a reason him and AZ aren't guarded at all and you can't count on them to have a great game every time like they did against Orlando. With Amare you have to guard him, so you can't sag off your defense and try to help.

wes_mantooth
Agree with you that Lebron makes him look really good. But in his defense, he is only 21, and does have some upside. Right now, he is doing what he is asked to do.....except on defense..lol2quik4u wrote: To everyone saying JJ is gonna be really good is nuts lets be honest here Lebron makes him look a lot better then he really is. KR1245I agree. I've heard alot of people claiming that JJ is going to be an All-Star in a couple years. How do we know that? He has had a couple good games this year and thats about it. Hes still a liability on defense and has NO game outside of the paint. Amare is an established all-star, if you have to trade JJ to bring him in then you do it. Lets go after somebody that has been an all-star rather then somebody that has the potential to be one.
