If they do this move I doubt it happens tonight as their probably busy finalizing the Wiz/LAC deal. -

The Wizards are also 1 million from the luxury tax threshold.
Those two things solidify Z being bought out imo. -

There has been no serious movement on the Lakers' side in furthering a possible Hinrich deal with the Chicago Bulls, despite both teams' efforts to recruit a third team.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been contacted about facilitating a Hinrich trade, but General Manager David Kahn is hesitant to take on the contract of Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic, even with forward Tyrus Thomas coming into Minneapolis.
However, the biggest issue is that the Chicago Bulls are requiring a mid-to-early first round draft pick in addition to expiring contracts, and Minnesota is unwilling to surrender any of its picks to Chicago unless they receive multiple first round draft considerations from Los Angeles.
Though the Lakers and Bulls have continued to reach out to other NBA teams to assist in a three-team deal, no team is amenable to obtaining Sasha Vujacic. As reported by ESPN's Marc Stein, the Los Angeles Lakers' attempts to acquire Hinrich have stalled because they want to surrender Sasha Vujacic's contract in the same trade.
Hence, negotiations have narrowed down to the Lakers and Bulls. The Bulls have suggested alternate deals that would bring Kirk Hinrich to the Lakers, such as the Lakers sending out Adam Morrison alongside the athletic Shannon Brown and the expiring contract of Josh Powell. However, the Lakers have refused to include the former Slam Dunk participant into any deal.
The Lakers also rejected the Bulls' efforts to trade Kirk Hinrich in exchange for the expiring contracts of Derek Fisher and Adam Morrison, as well as future draft picks. The problematic issue is not the draft considerations. Rather, the Lakers' front office has chosen to remain loyal to Derek Fisher, despite his season-long struggles.
Even with the possibility of Derek Fisher being waived and returning to L.A. in time for the playoffs, the Lakers do not wish to part with the veteran leader. Moreover, the Lakers understand the league will closely examine trades for any inside agreements and would prefer to not be in the same boat as the Cleveland Cavaliers should they trade Zydrunas Ilgauskas in a deadline trade.
Contrary to media concerns that the Lakers' front office needs to make a deal, the Lakers are quite content in keeping their current roster, and feel that they have enough pieces to repeat in this year's NBA Finals. If a deadline deal is not reached by the conclusion of Wednesday night, the Lakers will enter the 2010 NBA playoffs with their roster as currently constructed.
Nevertheless, Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak has looked into other minor trades, such as exchanging the expiring contract of Adam Morrison for another expiring yet serviceable player, or even the unlikely scenario of trading Sasha Vujacic for an expiring contract to alleviate future luxury tax obligations.
The Lakers have a plethora of future second-round draft picks as well as cash that would be utilized to entice teams into a potential deal.
A shortlist of expiring players that the Lakers front office has shown interest in within inner circles include Milwaukee's Luke Ridnour, Indiana's Earl Watson, Philadelphia's Jason Kapono, and Washington's Mike Miller. -

The NBA All-Star game is past. This is a reminder that the trade deadline is right around the corner. There are many teams seeking to drastically reduce payrolls in lieu of diminished returns and lost profits during the recession. Here are some of the rumors that are floating around the league at the moment.
According to Mark Miller of Yahoo Sports, the Chicago Bulls are looking to move Tyrus Thomas in exchange for Sasha Vujacic of the Los Angeles Lakers. Thomas is a bit of a hothead and is wearing thin on the Bulls team. Sasha is a young player who has developed his game to more than just a stand up jump shot. Sasha is looking for a place to showcase his skills other than the shadow of Kobe Bryant and Ron Artest.
This is a surprising move to hear of form the Lakers who were reported to be shopping Andrew Bynum. Bynum has been struggling with injuries each year into his career. He has missed a lot of games this year and has been underperforming. Especially on defense he has lagged behind the rest of the league. He is a young player with some upside and I expect a team like the Golden State Warriors would like to see a new star emerge in the Bay Area. I expect to see a deal for Center Andris Biedrins. This would be a welcome back-up center for the Lakers to add toughness to the team. The Warriors have not been contenders in recent years.
Hoopshype.com is reporting that Tracy McGrady is looking for a trade. The Sacramento Kings may be looking for that special player to try and make a run for the playoffs in the very intense Western Conference Playoff race. McGrady may be over the hill but the young Kings could use some leadership. His playing days are not yet done and the Kings may have room under the cap because of their multiple players earning less than the league maximum.
I also expect the Cleveland Cavs will make a move to add greater support to Lebron James and Shaq. There needs to be one more shooter on that squad to enable them to beat the best teams in the East on Lebron's quest for his first NBA title. James needs to command a team capable of scoring some points for themselves.

In order to acquire Antawn Jamison, Cleveland was forced to trade Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who leads the franchise in career games, blocks and rebounds.
Both the Cavaliers and Ilgauskas want to be reunited in just over 30 days.
"Z had a long day," agent Herb Rudoy said of his client.
Ilgauskas must be bought out by March 1st in order to be eligible for the playoffs.
"I'm going to try to get them to do a buy-out, but I've already heard from a few teams -- good teams -- that are really interested in wanting to talk about Z going to play for them," Rudoy said. "That doesn't surprise me. He's still a very good player. He's a very interesting player who can still be a very good center in this league.
"I don't know exactly what's going to happen. I think his heart is in Cleveland, that's for sure. But we'll see how this plays out. He's got 30 days to make a decision if it's Cleveland. If it's somebody else, he could make it in a week. His whole decision will be based on what's best for his career. He'd like to win a championship, that's for sure. But it's his call, not mine. I'm just going to give him all the options.

Miami won't improve their offer because Amare simply isn't worth it. Tonight we saw what Beasley could do when he was THE man and needed. It was against the Nets, so lets back up, but the Heat without Wade are just a tad better than the Nets ha. They certainly won't now that the Cavs are out of the running. Kerr showed why he's just a boy in a man's game. I doubt the Suns trade him right now, they'll wait until FA. The only way they trade him is if they think Miami's draft pick(s) are quite valuable. I'd be pissed if they gave them both their 1st RD picks. -

HOWEVER, there is no doubt in my mind that Ferry had to talk to Kerr about buying out Z.. Ferry and Kerr are best friends, so if this would have happened behind Ferry's back, that would be shady.. Not against any rules, but it would have been a shady move to pull on a friend.
With that said, Ferry made the right move. He played his cards right and put the pressure on Phoenix and Washington. -

PDcavsinsider Also, overnight study of numbers shows Wizards still over the luxury tax line. Buying out Ilgauskas could save $5-$7 million. No brainer.
