LOL, no. There are usually two sides to this chicken vs egg argument. You have the "build the team then plug in your QB" or the "get your franchise guy and build around him." After seeing about three decent years of QB play since 1999, I'm of the "get the QB" belief.SportsAndLady;1879503 wrote:Your buddy have a name on here? BR1986FBHave also heard that it's possible that Jimmy G requested to be traded "anywhere but Cleveland" and they granted his wish. Doubt it but I guess anything's possible?

Do you have a reputable source or did you hear it on the radio?BR1986FB;1879509 wrote:Have also heard that it's possible that Jimmy G requested to be traded "anywhere but Cleveland" and they granted his wish. Doubt it but I guess anything's possible? -

This link says the same thing. Might be something to it. -

Then you offer an additional pick to NE. He didn’t have a no trade clause, he could go fuck himself and be traded to any team NE desired.ppaw1999;1879526 wrote:http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/10/31/hue-jackson-puts-out-the-word-that-he-wanted-jimmy-garoppolo-in-cleveland/

Well if that is the case he would resign after the season so really we would give up a 2nd for no reason but I also read that sashi brown left the facility at 5 yesterday and basically didn't even try. He's a fucking idiotlike_that;1879527 wrote:Then you offer an additional pick to NE. He didn’t have a no trade clause, he could go fuck himself and be traded to any team NE desired.

I assume you meant he wouldnt? Franchise tag. Jimmy had no leverage in this at all.Crimson streak;1879590 wrote:Well if that is the case he would resign after the season so really we would give up a 2nd for no reason but I also read that sashi brown left the facility at 5 yesterday and basically didn't even try. BR1986FBAssuming the Browns screwed up on JG and he would've been interested in playing here, they missed a golden opportunity. Guy would've instantly been the face of the franchise and would've given this team an identity.

Idgaf if he had any interest in playing here or not. This isn’t the NBA where the inmates run the asylum (shout out to Bob McNair [emoji23]). If he has a desire to be a NFL starting QB, he most likely wasn’t going to get his top choice . If he didn’t want to be in Cleveland, too fucking bad. He would have 0 leverage and no choice, but to try and play his best.BR1986FB;1879704 wrote:Assuming the Browns screwed up on JG and he would've been interested in playing here, they missed a golden opportunity. You think the top players in every draft class are looking forward to being drafted by a shitty franchise? Highly doubt it.
Yes, the Browns fucked up. If they didn’t even call the Pats they are a disgrace. -
kizer permanenteI get why people are high on Garoppolo. He has some nice attributes. But whens the last time a career backup was traded and did anything?

I’m actually wary of him too, because Belichick obviously wouldn’t have traded him if he thought he could be a franchise QB. I wasn’t all in on the two firsts for him during the draft like some were.SQ;1879706 wrote:I get why people are high on Garoppolo. He has some nice attributes. Throwing a 2nd round pick was worth the price to find out though, especially when they have THREE of them. -

Matt Schaub. Also not sure if he was traded but Matt Cassel took the Chiefs to the playoffs in his first season in KC. After that he fizzled.kizer permanente;1879706 wrote:I get why people are high on Garoppolo. He has some nice attributes. But whens the last time a career backup was traded and did anything?
You also have to keep in mind that JG has been a "career backup" to the GOAT. He could've been the Pats starting QB, leading them to a couple of playoffs had Brady not been in front of him. Never really know until we see a larger sample size but, if I'm betting, I think he's going to thrive in Shanahan's system. Regardless of some of the "butthurtness" among Browns fans for how he left, Shanahan is a damn good offensive coach. Just ask Atlanta right now whose offense looks like it's in the Stone Age. -
SportsAndLadyComparing jimmy g to other backup QBs is apples to oranges. Jimmy g is the backup to the greatest qb that’s ever played. He’s not backing up Blake Bortles or some other QB. The couple games he did get to play he led the league in passer rating. The entire league.
You absolutely spend a 2nd rounder to find out if he’s a franchise QB. THey should be fired on the spot for not even attempting to get him. -
kizer permanenteYeah like I said, I can def see why people are high on him. It just feels like backups don't pan out when traded for.
Good point on Schaub. I wouldn't call Cassel anything but a bust though. -

This, and the fact that they offered MORE, for McCarron than what SF paid for Garoppolo makes it even worse. That article from Bud Shaw on the other thread is pretty much spot on and what most of us are thinking.SportsAndLady;1879724 wrote:Comparing jimmy g to other backup QBs is apples to oranges. If the rumors are true that Sashi & Company left Berea at 5pm on Monday, as the trade deadline was winding down, and the coaches were pissed about SF getting JG, that's another offense to dump them. GM's should be on the clock almost 24/7 around that time.
