I would keep Farmer, Pet and JFF. Farmer and Pett gotta settle their differences and figure the playing time shit out tho.

Not to be a smartass but, you serious? You'd keep Farmer? What would you base it on besides continuity?

I know that hypothetically this probably wouldn't work as a new regime likely dumps Manziel but what order would you have them in?

I'd dump Farmer so that by default they all go.

A new GM isn't keeping either one of those two.

As an outsider opinion AND not trying to endorse Pettine/Farmer, one thing I think has really neutered Cleveland over the past decade-plus is that they seem to have an amazingly quick trigger-finger on their hires, where it seems a lot of people in really important positions have only gotten 1-2 years to turn things around before they get replaced by the next "savior". Having new guys with new systems coming in regularly is bad for overall chemistry, a warning flag for potential FA veterans and can stunt the development of young players. While you never want to take things to the level Detroit did with Matt Millen, where they kept him around long after he was a national punchline at GM, at some point, don't you have to say, "These are our guys and barring anything insane scandal-wise, they're here for 4-5 years!"?

If you don't have some semblance of continuity, you get stuff like what you guys have been talking about with Pettine playing the mediocre journeyman vet at QB over Manziel because the vet gives the perceived better chance of winning now to save his job, as opposed to potentially developing a long-term QB who might lose now, but win after getting NFL on-field experience. To me, it seems the quick trigger-finger on hires and fires is the sort of thing that keeps the more desirable candidates away and keeps you in the no-playoff zone. At some point, you have to send people the message that this is their team for the next few years and it's their job to turn a 3-4 win squad into a 10-12 win one.

Agree that "at some point" that needs to be done. I don't think the franchise is at that "point" yet.

No way spend a #1 draft pick on a QB this year. Unless you can get a bona fide stud on defense, I want them to trade down a few slots and get an extra pick(s) or another # 1 next year....this team needs to fill multiple positions, and Manziel/ McCown will suffice next year.

news note... Darius Jennings has been re- signed replacing the vacant roster spot opened by the Greco's injury.
so who's the healthy scratch next week... Bowe or Pryor?
  • Sonofanump
Not impressed with whoever is doing the drafting. That person and whoever thought Bowe was worth that money should go first.

JT & Mack voted to the Pro Bowl with Barnidge as an alternate. Either the center position is pretty weak this year of Mack got in on name recognition.

In the scenario above, farmer and Pettine are not mutually exclusive. You can't fire farmer and keep Pettine, but you could fire Pettine and keep farmer. I hope farmer is gone. His drafts and fa signings were terrible.

I love that Footwedge either 1) has no idea why he was banned from this thread or 2) knows why and choose to claim it's for a different reason

Either must Pettine believe his job is safe or he's getting ready to cut loose on some kind of tirade on his way out. His interviews have gotten much more colorful.

Mr.& Mrs. Haslam kicking some cash to Cleveland charter schools to the tune of $10 million.

I saw this. Very nice gesture. Now go find someone who can actually evaluate talent. :D

Browns fans thoughts on tom coughlin if he's let go by the Giants?

He is done coaching if the Giants let him go.
  • Lovejoy1984
Agree with LT, he will retire, and I'm not sure if he's ever had any say in personnel decisions, so I'd pass on him in that regard. Personally, if/when Chip is let go, I wouldn't mind the Browns making a run at him to coach, but little to no input on personnel as that clearly didn't work.

But, that being said we will probably be stuck with a no name assistant from Tennessee or another bad team.

Saw Schefty say there's a chance he could want to coach again. That's why I asked. But you're right he more than likely wouldn't want to coach again. I was just asking in the case he does want to coach again. N

Yeah, OC from Jacksonville sounds about right.

Hadn't seen that report, but yeah if he did want to coach, I'd be for it.

I think Pettine will be our coach next season.

Surely he'd retire....if not he'd be good for getting going in the right direction.

Terelle Pryor inactive for today.... Not Bowe.

Hoping for a Titans win at home against the Texans.

Just gonna assume we aren't beating the Chiefs today
