2016 Browns Season Thread

I'd rather take a chance on a top level player who is still on his rookie deal and costing us nothing. If he is going to make a comeback it might as well be with the Browns. There is a much better chance of Gordon returning to form than finding a sleeper stud in the 6th round. Not to mention, if they were going to trade him why would trade him after 2 preseason games and not back 2 seasons ago when he was initially suspended. You know, when his stock was high after owning the NFL. You're the same guy who thought the eagles were going to be a top 2 pick. If the Browns were looking to hire one of us in the FO, I would take my judgement over yours easily.
Watch how this works "I was probably wrong about the eagles" that's what you do when you realize you made a mistake. You're seriously wondering why they didn't trade him 2 years ago compared to this preseason on verge of possibly returning?!?! You can't be this dumb can you?

Still believe we shouldn't have traded him. Hopefully he can get to rehab and come back to football.

Man, you guys really stick to your guns.
From what I've read from Browns beat writers, he's done with Browns. Also, it's safe to suspect that this "decision of his own" is ahead of yet another failed test.

You realize that you're continuously screaming "see!! We could have gotten a sixth rounder for him!!"?

You're being a smart ass to me....for saying this whole time that they should trade him while they can still get something...anything....before he gets kicked out of the league...and I was right....and you are the one still holding onto the "still wouldn't trade him" EVEN AFTER HE GOES INTO REHAB?!?! Please tell me you still think he'll come back and play for the Browns

You know the answer already. He is done. He was done in 2015. SHould have dumped him for a bag of footballs; at least get some value out of him.

Somebody posted a picture on twitter supposedly from the paid section of OBR stating that Gordon got caught with weed at the airport (as in almost a pound). The screenshot looked legit but who knows anymore.

Even a slight chance he returns is worth it compared to a 6th round pick.

Can't believe I was reeled in to this horrible argument. I just hope the guy somehow becomes a productive member of society, but looks quite unlikely. This kid needs help big time. I'd guess death before 30 before I would 5 more career TD

I just don't agree with trading someone because you think he might get suspended again. It's a horrible philosophy. Yes, you ended up being correct that Josh Gordon probably won't play another down in the NFL, but I still don't think your philosophy is a good one. You don't trade someone because you think they could get in trouble again.

And I wasn't being a smart ass at all. Getting a sixth rounder in 2015 wasn't going to change this franchise around, so not sure why you're making this such a big deal lol

That is 1 thing I will agree with. Hopefully his life gets straightened out. How does weed have this big of a grip on someone's life

Especially for a 6th rounder, although I am not even sure the Browns would have received a 6th.

He's never played a full season and has a problem that he is never going to solve. I wouldn't keep Peyton Manning if we only got Manning for a few games a year.

Should have traded him for anything; even a 6th round pick is better than a 10% chance he plays 3 games a year. I said the same thing from Day 1 about JFF and Gordon has the exact same problem. After his good season, he was worth a lot and we should have traded him then and his value decreased because teams realized he wasn't worth much if he only can play 3 games a year.

    Mr hindsight strikes again!

Yeah, it'd be one thing to sell high, but to sell a legit talent at his lowest just to say "We got rid of his issues!!!!" is just dumb. Best case scenario: Gordon never plays again and you get a hypothetical sixth-round draft pick who contributes in some way. Worst case: Whatever you get does nothing, Gordon rights the ship and goes back to being elite, leading to many "Factory of Sadness" jokes. And you're not going to get much for Gordon unless Jerry Jones get drunk and loses his advisors. When Randy Moss went from Oakland to NE, the Pats only gave up a fourth rounder. Moss was older, but he wasn't a failed test away from being banned for life (or whatever the next step for Gordon would be).

You call it hindsight...I'd call it seeing a destructive pattern over and over again...likely to end his career. Most could see it coming...some refused to open their eyes.
  • Azubuike24
Lost on the whole thing is it sounds like he isn't coming back to the Browns after this regardless. Sure, they could've dealt him, but it as worth the risk, IMO. However, I can't blame the Browns for just moving on, even if he returns and stars elsewhere. Sometimes you have to just get away from the situation.

Maybe the steelers should dump Leveon Bell then, right? I mean, he's "on a path to destruction" with all his weed problems too!

Maybe they should...got a pretty serviceable backup. His next suspension get him kicked out of the league like Gordon's is/was?

Regardless of whatever pick they may have received in the trade, getting rid of the distraction, uncertainty and all of that may have been worth it before it even got to this point. How much rope you get depends on your talent, and he had/has a boatload of it and that is why he got all this time. I just always thought that you only keep a guy with these kind of troubles if he is one of the very last pieces you need to contend for a championship. If not, move on and try to get pieces you can count on.

Makes you wonder what is going on. If he popped hot again ya would think it would have come out. Dude must be battling some nasty demons. Gotta get his shit together.

Also never plays a full season so another reason to dump.

So guy gets caught with a pound of weed at the airport and is let go? I know guys with CCW who forgot they had their gun on them and declared it soon as they realized it and spent the day in jail.

There's no hindsight. The reality is, when you have someone who engages in the activities that Gordon engages in, you are playing massively against the odds to ever become a relevant and consistent player in the NFL. The moment Gordon was suspended the first time, the Browns should have been shopping him for a player or a pick.

Continue to disagree with me though. You can add this to my ever growing list of 'bold' predictions that come true.
