  Cornerstone of the deal, Jose Peraza. A guy the Braves (if you follow the Braves, you know they are literally gutting their franchise to contend in 2018 and later) dealt him for a 30-year old Olivera in July.
  
  Many on Twitter are saying the Dodgers, also involved in the deal, received a better package of prospects than the Reds, who gave up the best player.

  Why the hell wouldn't you trade guys who've never done anything for this franchise? And trade the young guy who has shown glimpses of hope (HR derby)?

  Todd Frazier turns 30 in 2 months.
  Jay Bruce turns 29 in 4 months.
  
  Frazier is a free agent after 2017, where it's quite clear that as a premium 3B, both offensively and defensively, he is well out of the Reds price range.
  However, Frazier was a late bloomer. He will get ONE shot at a big contract. He wasn't going to be a Red past 2017.
  
  Problem isn't trading him, it's that the GM doesn't know how to get good stuff back in a trade.

  Word is they are trying to move BP too.
  
  But this move is just like the Chapman move in my mind. Frazier was arbitration eligible at the end of this coming season, and will be a free agent in 2 years. They may not have gotten the best deal for him since they are in full fire sale mode. But they actually moved him at the right time...unlike waiting too long like they did with Chapman.

  I'm always amazed how many people don't realize how old Frazier is. None of my friends had a clue.
  Regardless, I was sad to see him go.
  
  BP would be awesome to get traded (even tho my favorite player), but his no trade will make that really hard.
  
  No doubt Chapman still gets dealt. What they get for him... that's now the question.

  May not be as hard now that Dusty is coaching in Washington. BP would have to approve a trade to the Nationals, but would probably be open to reuniting with Dusty and playing on a contender.

  I'm sure someone said this earlier, but baker being in Washington makes this the place you'd imagine Phillips would be OK with.

  I get why the Reds are making these trades. They can finish last in the division with or without the big name guys. Just odd to me that the strategy in baseball is if you're not going anywhere, to trade anyone of value and hope you get a decent return on prospects. At this rate, who is going to be left on the roster to show up and watch? Votto? That it?

  Votto is not worth buying a ticket to see. Great player, but you're going to buy a ticket to watch him walk twice a game? Phillips was worth going to see him play defense.

  Who are you kidding? Most sheeple fans by tickets for bobbleheads, free pizza after 11 strikeouts and summer weather. The majority of fans don't give a shit what players are on the field.

  For a rebuilding team, it's all about securing plays that have years of team control left. You're trading 2 years of Frazier for (hopefully) ~15 years of other players.

  It's also about building up a farm system that has a bunch of players/talent so when you are in a position to actually contend, you have the prospects available to trade for a big name player that may put you over the hump. Right now, the Reds have a pretty empty cupboard in the minors. So the moves now are to build that up.

  Phillips' defense wasn't as great last season. And at his age, I wouldn't be surprised if his defense dropped even more over the next few years.

  This. I am getting so pissed at the people online who are saying they are never buying tickets again because the Reds traded Frazier and are looking to trade Phillips. Those same "fans" will be there in line 2 hours ahead of time for whoever actually gets a bobblehead this year. I'm sure Zack Cozart is pumped with all of these moves. He's got a shot at getting his own bobble this year.

  No one in Cincinnati buys tickets anyways. Great fans, they just watch on tv. They don't go to games.
