Cleveland Browns Offseason Talk

I was surprised of what BAL gave up to get Boldin...That's a little easy isn't it? Man I wish Cleveland could have done something like that.

I saw a mock with us taking Odrick at #7. I was pissed because the person doing the mock is a guru and I was just baffled.

    Not sure. Probably a 2nd or a 3rd (and a player).

BTW....didn't mention it earlier but I did hear Tashard Choice's name linked to the Browns. Didn't catch all of it but thought it had something to do with the Cowboys signing DQ Jackson to an offer sheet and then us getting Choice via trade. Wasn't exactly sure how that worked but were are/were linked to Choice.

BTW Part Deux....I wouldn't be too concerned about the lack of free agent signings. I think that Holmgren, Heckert & Company are in full on trade mode. Still expect to see Rogers and possibly Quinn moved.
There fucking nuts if they trade DQ Jackson for T Choice straight up!! That is way to Phil Savage like for it to happen...DQ needs to be in wrapped up and in Cleveland for the next 4-5 years!

Dear god of christ...Holmgren is looking at trading for Seneca Wallace...Superbowl!!!(sarcasm)

Not so sure about that. Jackson is Andra Davis-lite....makes a ton of tackles but nothing of real impact (4-5 yards down field). I'd rather see bigger "thumpers" man the middle of the field.

And no disrespect to you but, dude, ditch the avatar. Douchebag Mike is the most HATED, self promoting (supposed) Browns "fan" next to John "Big Hawg" Thompson. To even be associated with him is an embarrassment.

If McClain is available, you must take him.

He is highly intelligent and will be the QB of our defense imo. He has a great motor and I have no doubt he would be a playmaker for many years to come.

^^^Trust me...I wasn't hanging out with him on purpose. Never do!!! He's a sellout!!! He went from being a die hard to being a little bitch that got divorced and remarried. He's a whipped pussy now a days. I just happened to have tickets right behind him. And when the pic got snapped he appeared in it. We actually got in a heated argument with him about a few things.

lol...I remember that game and hearing this story.

^^^YES!!! Kicked out 3 minutes into the 1st qtr....that guy was a real douche!!! LMAO!!!!!
  • wes_mantooth
I agree about DQ. I love his effort, but they def need the big thumper in the middle. DQ is a great effort guy, but is limited because of his size.

McClain would be sweet, but I doubt he would be there at 7. Honestly, if they get either McClain, Haden, or Berry, I will be happy.

Color me shocked!!! Douchebag Mike getting face time in someone elses photo. :dodgy:

As far as the McNabb situation goes, look for him to either be dealt by tomorrow or they will cut off all trade talks completely. Reid is seeing this as an unneeded distraction in Philly. Not trying to come across as "on the fence" here but it's what I've heard. They want this over with and done. There are 3 teams in pursuit.

Kolb is going to require a 1st and MUCH more. Pretty sure that they are just focusing on McNabb which would require multiple picks but no 1st (unless the Eagles threw in a receiver with McNabb).
  • devil1197
Do we honestly want to waste multiple picks (assuming a couple of those picks could actually help Cleveland at more than 1 positions) and then additional players for McNabb?

Why would it be a waste to bring on a franchise QB to hold down the fort for 2-3 years while we groom a late rounder that we draft this year?

Or would you prefer that we tread water with Quinn and enjoy 5-6 win seasons for the next 2-3 years? McNabb at least gives us a fighting chance.

The "DA to the Cardinals" rumors may be heating up. The Browns spoke with the Cards yesterday about him and his agent has gotten involved. The Cards say there's no way they take him on with that contract (hence the agent's involvement =restructure?)
  • wes_mantooth
Yeah, they need to bring in someone to be a stop gap while you train in your "franchise" guy. I know Brady's contract is very team friendly this year, so odds are that they will keep him. What does his contract look like after this year?

Having not really looked at the FA QB depth, but wouldn't that be a route to take instead of wasting at minimum 2 draft picks on McNabb which could be used at other places.

We need to quit worrying about getting the star QB and just focus on solidifying our defense imo. You won't win our division without having a tough defense. The Ravens and Steelers have proved that now for somet time.

I know its Holmgren's style to trade for a QB but I'd rather get a stop gap via FA, because honestly I don't see McNabb taking us anywhere anytime soon. Those picks could be benefical in multiple positions.
  • BR1986FB
BTW....the Browns have been in contact with the agent of a "prominent" free agent within the last 12 hours. Don't have a name but I'm assuming probably Thomas Jones. I'll let you know when I get the actual name.

They contacted Arizona & Denver but there never was any real serious interest in Boldin or Brandon Marshall. They felt Boldin is talented and should do well in Baltimore but he's not a #1 but will want that kind of money.

I'm sure they WILL draft heavily on the defensive side.

So a 3rd (which we have multiples of) and a 5th (also multiples) wouldn't be worth McNabb?

I think we still are going to be getting MORE draft picks. I could see losing Matt Roth (very possible), Vickers, DQ Jackson and possibly Harrison due to someone making them an offer. Those are all 2nd round picks if that happens. Could also see Shaun Rogers being moved.
  • devil1197
So McNabb is going to go for a 3rd and 5th? I would assume the Eagles would at least try to get a 2nd from Cleveland which I would have trouble with.

A 3rd and 5th, I'd take him but nothing higher than that.
  • Non
The FA quarterbacks are lousy. Troy Smith is the most promising IMO but he's a RFA and others have said the Browns aren't pursuing him.

I don't know what the compensation would be but if it was a pick and Shaun Rogers I'd do it or if we gained multiple 2nds from losing tendered free agents I'd do that too.

What exactly is YOUR suggestion at QB?
  • devil1197
Since I personally do not think Cleveland is going anywhere next season, I really don't want to give up high draft picks for McNabb.

Now, if we can get him for a 3rd and 5th then do it but those 2nd rounders need to stay in Cleveland.

If the McNabb deal doesn't work, you trade Anderson and pick up a vet somewhere else. Whether we like it or not, Quinn will be a Brown next season and he'll probably see time at the QB spot if they do not get McNabb.

So unless we get McNabb for no higher than a 3rd, you pick up a vet and draft a middle/late round QB and have an open 3 QB competition for the starting spot next season.

So the Browns second round picks have done so well that you dont give up a 2nd round draft pick for the best Qb this town has seen since Kosar. Thanks goodness you are not the Browns GM.
  • BR1986FB
There will be NO quarterback competition in Cleveland this year. Holmgren has already stated that.

I firmly believe that if they can get McNabb, a RG/RT, #1 WR and perhaps another RB, they can be a .500 team THIS year. Assuming they use multiple picks on the defense. Hell, they should have won 7 games (blew Detroit & Cincy games) this past year with that group of shitbags.
