Sour Grapes regarding the Steelers

I Wear PantsI've never been creeped out or felt the need to be prepared to either run or hit someone with the heaviest thing in site when I was in Pittsburgh. Nearly every time I'm in Cleveland I get those feelings.

QUESTION ONE: They must trace their family tree to find the nearest relative who lived in a state with professional teams and claim those as their own due to being a transplanted fan. If they can't find any instances of an ancestor living in a state with professional teams, they forfeit their right to live due to having no honor and must commit suicide. That's why those states don't have cities large enough for pro sports teams. Seppuku-driven population control.Puddle Jumper wrote: So who are the people that live in South Carolina,Wyoming,North and South Dakota,Oklahoma,Nevada, etc supposed to cheer for?
Since Ohio and Pennsylvania has 2 teams in each state, where must 1 live to cheer for each team in the state?
I'm confused I didn't know there was a rule that 1 had to cheer for hometown teams.
QUESTION TWO: Whoa...that's a good one. Others have proposed using I-70 as a line, but a person living in, say Mercer or Auglaize County might naturally be a Bengals fan due to being a hop, skip and jump from I-75 for a jaunt down there. But then, they also might be a Colts fan due to being close to that city, as well, and we all know that is forbidden. So since completely arbitrary things like state lines are used to judge what teams we may cheer for, other completely arbitrary things such as interstates also should be used. Now, Pennsylvania is different, as there is no vertically-bisecting interstate to separate fanbases, so I think we should simply say that counties in the west half of the state cheer for Pittsburgh, while those in the east half cheer for Philly.
I hope I've helped clear this up. While this topic isn't on the Serious Business forum, it is...truly...serious business. -

Agreed....people who root for both Ohio State and the Steelers...are true queers.skank wrote: I love it when people grew up in Ohio, (I realize the imaginary line is somewhere around the Ygst. area), cheer for the Bucks on saturdays, then on sundays, turn around and cheer for the steelers. bulldog8Well sign me up on the true queers list then....I grew up taught to like whoever I damn please. I was a running back all my life in high school and college football and preferred a hard-nose, run it 30-40 times a game style of offense combined with a hard-hitting defense. The Buckeyes and Steelers were the epitomes of this style of play when I grew up and therefore I enjoyed watching them the most. Call me a bandwagoner all you want, but i've stayed loyal to these teams and cheered for them ever since I was kid. I've taken the criticisms of OSU over the past couple years and i'll certainly take the criticisms of the Steelers now. Hell they shot themselves in the foot numerous times this season and didn't deserve a playoff berth. There's many changes that need to be made regarding their coaching staff (Arians and special team's coach), their offensive line, and secondary. You have the right to your opinion, but damn me to hell if any of you are going to tell me who to cheer for. Last time I checked, it's a free country and i'm allowed to cheer for whoever I want. If I was a bandwagoner, I would change my team yearly depending on who is successful that year. I've stayed loyal to my teams since I was kid.

Who cares who the guy roots for. Here, In Steubenville, it's Squeelers and Suckeyes. I imagine it's because the Squeelers are what we get on TV here, every week. The team you watch every week is your home team.Heretic wrote:

Also, here you live in Ohio and watch the Buckeyes on TV every week. What's so crazy about that????
i hate the Squeelers and the Suckeyes. I like the Vikings, Colorado Buffaloes, Buffalo Sabres, Cincy Reds. You're free to root for whoever you want. I didn't choose to like any of these teams, it's just who I was attracted to. I'd have chose a few winners if I'd been picking. -
hasbeenI hate hometown teams. Mainly because I can't stand the fans that are around here. I've always been a Notre Dame fan, I was born that way even though my mom is an OSU girl. I grew up around my cousins who were Dallas Cowboys fans, so I started rooting for them. I was excited during their successes and I was still supportive even during the Quincy Carter years. Then during my young years the COOLEST MLB team was the Seattle Mariners. Let's be honest, they had Griffey the kid, Edgar, A-Rod, the big unit, Buhner, etc. They were a cool team, never won a championship, but I still support them. I guess I'm a bandwagon fan too even though I never change my loyalty.

bulldog8Skank and company.....you guys appear to have some socialistic tendencies, telling everyone who they should cheer for and ridiculing those if they don't cheer for their local team. You don't see me pointing the finger at you for whom you choose to cheer for. My purpose of this thread was to joke with those who make ludicrous comments regarding how the NFL is fixed to always "help" the Steelers. I'm not saying you are guilty of this, but on several Steelers' threads this year, someone always credits a Steelers win to the referees favoring them with calls, blah, blah, blah. My original post of other fans whining about the Steelers is no longer pertinent since Pittsburgh will be sitting at home for the playoffs. They had a very dissapointing year and i'm glad things ended as they did today.....they are undeserving of a playoff spot and lost to 3 very poor teams this season. Although my original post has fallen irrelevant, many of you have opened up a whole new can of worms by telling me who I should cheer for and labeling me as a bandwagoner. The only thing you have proven is your own shortcomings, thanks for playing along

I just love the idea that rooting for a college team and pro team are the same thing and influenced by the same reasoning. Let's see...my father graduated from Ohio State and, therefore, I was influenced to cheer for them. I'd say that gives me more of a connection to the Buckeyes than a decent number of Cleveland-ites, as if they didn't attend the school or have a close family member do so, they only cheer them on because they're the closest in-state big, successful college. "Yeah, Cleveland State, Akron and Kent State are all much closer, but they aren't big-time contenders! Screw those MAC or non-FBS football programs, we're piggybacking on the successful school a couple hours down an interstate!!!!"Footwedge wrote:

As for the Steelers, I've never lived particularly close to either Ohio pro football city. Always the central and SE parts of the state. My parents didn't have any real emotion for any pro football team. My best friend during my elementary school days was born in Pitt and was a fan of the Steelers. Therefore, he was my biggest influence as far as picking a team. Might be a dumb reason to pick a team, but it's no worse than, "Uh...because dat team is in da same state-thingy as me en not as fur away as dat udder team in dis state-thingy!" line of retardation as some people use. -

Some people, my father included, grew up supporting the Columbus Jets, who were the triple A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates for MANY years.Trips to Pittsburgh to watch the Pirates were followed in the fall with trips to Pittsburgh to watch the Steelers. The knowledge that a 9-7 season not resulting in a playoff bid is a disappointment to us, as opposed to the heavenly success it would be to Cleveland fans because their team actually showed enough competence to finish with a bigger number in the "W" side of the column for once.Pick6 wrote:

You guys can hang your hat on beating the Steelers and playing a role in them not making the playoffs in yet another losing season. We'll hang our hat on having a team that allows us to have legit postseason expectations regularly, so that it's disappointing to not go instead of the expected result. -

skankHey, however you clowns want to rationalize cheering for a team from another state is fine by me, but why does 95% of it seem to be Pittsburgh? I mean, not many Buffalo fans, Detroit? Nope. It just so happens that Pittsburgh is a winner, (as much as I hate to admit it), We'll call that exhibit A.
Ohio and Pennsylvania are rivals when it comes to football, so in my book, anyone who roots for a team from each state, such as OSU in college, and the Steelers in the NFL is the real queer. -
september63There was an entire thread about this in college forum. There were kids, I assume they were kids, saying Ohio State football and NC basketball were their favorites. The best was a guy claiming to be a true ND fan since he was 7 yrs old. But in basketball he has rooted for Syracuse since childhood? No reason like family involved either.
