2015 NFL Regular Season Chatter

  • SportsAndLady
Jason Whitlock this morning said the NFL should go to an 18 game season, but players can only play in 14 of those. Helps the players get healthier and adds games for the owners to make more money (and tv too).

I personally think it's a bad idea but a lot of people are liking it. My problem with it is I don't want to see a backup QB (or a backup anything) for 4 games.

Jason Whitlock is the dumbest person on television not named Joel Klatt.

That is the stupidest thing ever.

Go to an 18 WEEK schedule, with 2 byes. Make the one of the byes the week before the TNF game.

    TV and players both benefit.

I also heard 18 week, but have every team have two byes in weeks 8 and 9. So basically you get a 20 day break in the middle of the season.

Tv would hate it, but I think that's the best idea if they're trying to make a change.

So team would need 2 kickers

    How about them Lions?

And no, the Lions are not a worse organization than the Browns. At least they have some talent.

Could you back that up three frames where the thumb pulls the mask slightly so all fan bases have something to content on that play?

    Contact? Sure. Pull?

You might be on to something. This is copied and pasted out of the NFL rulebook:

GRASPING FACEMASKArticle 5 No player shall twist, turn, or pull the facemask of an opponent in any direction.Penalty: For twisting, turning, or pulling the mask: Loss of 15 yards. A personal foul.
The player maybe disqualified if the action is judged by the official(s) to be of a flagrant nature.

A.R. 12.12 Third-and-10 on A30. Runner A1 runs to the A33, where he is tackled by B1, who incidentally grasps A1’s facemask on the tackle, but it is not a twist, turn, or pull.Ruling: A’s ball, fourth-and-seven, on A33. No Foul.

Only thing I'll say is that while i don't consider what happened to be a grasp, it certainly turned the head of Arod. I'd be good with the call either way, but i haven't got a rooting interest in the outcome.

    Or turn.

Does it meet Sir Issac Newton's first law of motion?

Let's slow it down frame by frame because that is the reality on the field.

A missed call isn't not a missed call because real time is fast. That's an explanation for why it was missed, not justification for it being correct.

I don't see that his facemask turns any more than the rest of his body, which was due to the force of impact on the shoulder that ended up dragging him down. I don't have a rooting interest either, and the lions lost because they blew a 20 point lead and somehow left a guy open on a hail mary, but you aren't gonna convince me that they didn't blow that call.

Also, based on what i have seen posted from the rulebook, "grasping" is a requirement before the "or turn" clause is even applicable. Is that incorrect?
  • lhslep134
Sonofanump, couldn't they have called a personal foul for blow to the head for hitting the facemask even if it wasn't grasping?

I don't see the movement of the helmet as a blow, rather a turn. But I am seeing video frame by frame, not the actual action on the field in real time.

So the point is moot because you can't review penalty calls.

Yeah we didn't have 7 pro bowlers last year. Nor have we gone winless since our return. You are the worst br.
