2015 NFL Regular Season Chatter

Lovejoy1984Shady McCoy traded to the Bills, for Kiko Alonso.
-
SportsAndLadyWeird trade. Doesn't usually happen in the NFL
-
Lovejoy1984No it doesn't. And I assume a Draft pick or two coming to Philly.
Doesn't seem like a big enough haul for Shady. -
MulvaThat is an unusual trade. Alonso is a beast if he comes back healthy. I'm also a big Chris Polk guy. I actually like the trade more for Philly than Buffalo.

Last one I can think of is Clinton Portis for the HoF CB. His name escapes me atm.SportsAndLady;1709754 wrote:Weird trade. Doesn't usually happen in the NFL -

Me too. Moving on from a highly paid RB is smart in today's NFL, especially in a passing-oriented Chip Kelly offense.Mulva;1709757 wrote:That is an unusual trade. Alonso is a beast if he comes back healthy. I'm also a big Chris Polk guy. I actually like the trade more for Philly than Buffalo. -

Yup, that's him!Mulva;1709760 wrote:Champ. -
like_thatI think it is a bad trade for both tbh. On one end I thought the eagles were in "win the sb now" mode, so they trade their best offensive weapon (if mccoy gets it going that offense is almost unstoppable), for a guy coming off an ACL injury. On the other end Buffalo traded a very good young defensive player for a guy who most likely they won't resign.
I don't really understand what Chip is trying to do. First they don't tag Maclin, then they trade mccoy, and there is also talks about trading the sink for Mariota. The dude is either a genius and has something brewing (perhaps clearing cap space for suh), or he thinks he is a lot smarter than he is. I am still surprised the Eagles gave him full control of personnel after only his 2nd year in the NFL. -

I strongly disagree that McCoy was or is their best offensive weapon. Chip Kelly and his scheme is their best offensive weapon, and that's why they're moving on from McCoy.like_that;1709763 wrote:so they trade their best offensive weapon (if mccoy gets it going that offense is almost unstoppable) -

He opens it up for their whole offense. Their playoff year, I give him most of the credit for making a run to the playoffs. I highly doubt the eagles make the playoffs that year with an average RB.lhslep134;1709765 wrote:I strongly disagree that McCoy was or is their best offensive weapon. lhslep134You can think whatever you want but I disagree.
PFF gave the Bills a C and the Eagles an A but that was only based on fit with the new teams and no other factors. -
lhslep134If you think the Eagles' success was because of McCoy and not the offensive line, how can you account for LeSean's 'meh' season this year when the offensive line wasn't healthy but Sproles still did well?
The Eagles' offensive spacing and offensive line is way more valuable than any running back, even McCoy. Factor in the salary, and it makes total sense for the Eagles. -
Pick6Well if PFF gave the Bills a C and the Eagles an A then it must be true and there's nothing to discuss.

1,300+ yards isn't a "meh" season. I get a lot of eagles games in my area. The last two seasons, that offense is its best when Mccoy gets it going. There were some games that their special teams single handedly won them the game and Mccoy didn't even have to be a factor. Sproles has always been a good change of pace back for high flying offenses, but he is not even close to being a game breaking RB like Mccoy. I highly doubt he averages 5.8 yac if he is the featured back.lhslep134;1709790 wrote:If you think the Eagles' success was because of McCoy and not the offensive line, how can you account for LeSean's 'meh' season this year when the offensive line wasn't healthy but Sproles still did well?

I understand PFF's grades. I was just looking at the downside for both teams. Bills deserve a C for a guy they most likely won't re sign and Kiko is a great player if her can bounce back from his ACL injury, which is never a guarantee. Just because AP did it, doesn't mean everyone can do it. Even if Kiko bounces back to his form, the point I am trying to make is if the Eagles were in win it now mode, it doesn't make sense to me to get rid of their best offensive weapon (imo) along with the other players they are apparently letting go (maclin). I can see Chip being a victim of Hubris. The league is too smart, and I don' think he realizes that yet. -
lhslep134Look I get all of that and that's all fair and you're right. But we had the discussion last year about running back value and I just think that being able to unload him and get an asset in return is a great move. If the Eagles' run game noticeably dips this year then my point is completely invalidated.

sportchamppsDumping an aging back for a good young defender seems smart to me.

Just about to say this. Typical chest thumping idiocy from Pick6.lhslep134;1709797 wrote:as expected a worthless contribution from Pick6 -

Looks to me like he wants to load up on players that know his system. Philly may start to look like "Oregon East."like_that;1709763 wrote: I don't really understand what Chip is trying to do. As far as the personnel thing goes, I think that's a major reason he didn't join the Browns. Banner & Company weren't willing to give him control.
If they do go all in for Mariota, it will be interesting to see where Foles lands. -

Id take chip kelly as coach, but wouldn't want him having complete control like he does now. I wouldn't want any coach to have that type of control. Belichick is only guy that seems to be able to pull it off, and that's because he has a HOF QB to hide a lot of flaws.BR1986FB;1709832 wrote:Looks to me like he wants to load up on players that know his system. What is chip going to do when all of "his guys" graduate lol?
As for foles I'm still wishfully hoping the Browns work a three team trade to get him.

Heard about a conversation between Chris Palmer (Browns HC) and one of his players back in 2000-2001-ish. Player says "coach, who we gonna draft in the coming draft (2001)" to which Palmer says "we got our eye on this little running back named 'Tomlinson' that we're going after." Palmer gets fired, Davis gets hired, pulls rank on draft day, selecting Gerard Warren over LT because he "scouted him in high school at Florida when I was with the Hurricanes", or something to that effect.
Davis would've been a really good coach but he couldn't evaluate talent worth a shit. Coaches should be involved in the process (collaborative effort) but they shouldn't have all of their fingers submerged in the drafting "pie." -
sportchamppsThere's been a few successful coaches with full power but most fail. I think Parcells was probably the best at it

and fails.
I guess everyone around the league knew he was available. Arians in Arizona said he knew, and that he just didnt fit the system and they were ready to release him if they couldnt get anyone to trade with, according to Cowherd this morning.
So, it doesnt quite seem as bad as we may think..that he was just targeting former Oregon players. -
thavoiceThe steelers are hoping that Polamalu retires so they dont have to cut him.
The end of an era.
