Good teams have injuries and always miraculously pull these guys off the scrap heap to regain all pro form. -

j_crazy3 games in, here is my take for the Dolphins:
1. Philbin and Bill Lazor have to go. Miami ranks 27th in points and 19th in yards through 3 games. 2 of those games have come against teams that were supposed to be laughing stocks. When you hire an offensive Head Coach and he brings in a QB-centric Offensive Coordinator, you expect them to get the best out of a quarterback that you just paid $106 million to. Ryan Tannehill with the 29th ranked total QBR, and a passer rating of 85 is not cutting it.
2. Dennis Hickey has to go. Miami sucks at drafting talent. They just suck. The only way they get players is through huge signings (i.e. Suh, M. Wallace, Moreno, Delmas, Albert) and even half of those don't pan out. Miami is in a shitty position cap-wise for the next 3 years and it's because they whiff on almost every draft pick and get in bidding wars to bring in talent through FA.
3. Kevin Coyle has about 2 weeks to get that defense in line or he needs to go. I can live with the fact that there is little to no ability in the back end of the defense. but that front 4 is stacked and have done fuck all so far this season. it's time to shit or get off the pot in their case.
Overall, 2-14 is a possibility, and probably likely. i say that because what is the top of this draft loaded with, DE's. exactly what miami doesn't need, that means we're reaching for a pick again. FML. FUCK THIS TEAM. -
GOONx19Give the ball to Lamar, for my FF team's sake.
-
Azubuike24I don't even think it's about giving him the ball. Lamar Miller, Jeremy Hill and C.J. Anderson are in situations where they just can't run the ball. Period. It's just not working. You can blame injuries, fumbling problems, offensive scheme, but all 3 were incredibly overhyped and overprojected based on some part-time flashes last year.

A lot of these teams are having issues running the ball because of the systems their O-Lineman are coming from. Most colleges are running spread systems and are grooming "athletic/ballerina-type" O-Linemen. We aren't seeing as many road grader "bullies" who can punch you in the mouth when you need those extra yards. Many of them are "finesse" types, groomed for pass blocking.Azubuike24;1753850 wrote:I don't even think it's about giving him the ball. Lamar Miller, Jeremy Hill and C.J. Azubuike24What's funny is, Denver and Cincinnati are both 3-0 and have been woeful using their top tier RB. Denver has been woeful running the ball period.
I agree with what you're saying though, but at the same time, you can't blame these teams. You can't win in this league if you can't pass protect, especially when you have invested so much into the passing game weapons like Cincinnati and Denver have. -

I agree on the pass protecting. Running the ball in this league is a luxury, not a necessity, if you have a stud QB with weapons.Azubuike24;1753853 wrote:What's funny is, Denver and Cincinnati are both 3-0 and have been woeful using their top tier RB. Denver has been woeful running the ball period.

Wait.....is somebody calling Dalton a stud? I suppose you beat me to it, this is the season the red head goes deep into the playoffs. His confidence must be at an all time high after the Ravens game. Awesome last five minutes to the game.BR1986FB;1753854 wrote:I agree on the pass protecting. Running the ball in this league is a luxury, not a necessity, if you have a stud QB with weapons. -

No, so you can take back your reps. Dalton is a "serviceable" QB with weapons. Manning was a stud QB who has a ton of receiving weapons. Both have solid defenses behind them. If you have a good passing game and a decent defense you can win a lot of games.Uz2Bon36;1753858 wrote:Wait.....is somebody calling Dalton a stud? More than one way to skin a cat. You can go the "game manager QB/run the ball/shutdown defense" or "high octane passing attack/so so running game/decent defense" and win a lot too. A win is a win. One route isn't necessarily better than the other. -

Fair enuf'. I think his past record of making playoffs but not winning qualifies as serviceable. Knock on wood, I think he steps up onto the porch of stud QB's this season.BR1986FB;1753859 wrote:No, so you can take back your reps. Dalton is a "serviceable" QB with weapons. . -

Azubuike24Dalton is tough to grade. He has clearly choked in the playoffs, but in-terms of regular season stats, he's arguably a top 10-12 QB since he's been in the league. Not a stud, but he's better than guys he's put behind on a regular basis.
Compare him to Joe Flacco, Matt Stafford, Jay Cutler, Sam Bradford, Alex Smith, Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, etc...it's mostly favorable.
Dalton (5 years) - 107 TD, 67 INT, 61.8 Comp %, 86.7 QBR
Stafford (7 years) - 136 TD, 90 INT, 59.8 Comp %, 83.4 QBR
Cutler (10 years) - 185 TD, 132 INT, 61.7 Comp %, 85.1 QBR
Flacco (8 years) - 152 TD, 94 INT, 60.7 Comp %, 84.7 QBR
Smith (10 years) - 126 TD, 79 INT, 60.5 Comp %, 83.0 QBR
Bradford (6 years) - 62 TD, 42 INT, 58.9 Comp %, 78.9 QBR
Palmer (12 years) - 233 TD, 157 INT, 62.6 Comp %, 86.9 QBR
Manning (12 years) - 263 TD, 185 INT, 59.1 Comp %, 82.7 QBR -

Sea Chickens won a ring with a game manager in Russell Wilson. If Dalton doesn't piss down his leg, like he usually does, in the playoffs they will definitely be a contender. He puts up solid regular season stats (ala Peyton Manning) and then he shrivels up in the playoffs.Azubuike24;1753863 wrote:Dalton is tough to grade. Azubuike24Why does Romo take shit for his playoff performances but Phillip Rivers doesn't?
-
AutomatikI've given Philip Rivers shit since his days at NC State.
He doesn't have the memorable gaffes like Tony. He also doesn't play in Dallas. -
Azubuike24Throw Matt Ryan in there.
Romo, Ryan and Rivers are amazing regular season QB's. They all rank top 8 in active leaders for almost every category. They all stink in the playoffs. The criticism should be equal. -

In other words, time to queue up a 4-pick performance!Uz2Bon36;1753860 wrote:Fair enuf'. I think his past record of making playoffs but not winning qualifies as serviceable. Knock on wood, I think he steps up onto the porch of stud QB's this season.
I mean, pardon the sarcasm and all, but I think I'd wait a bit longer than a three-game performance in September, of all months, to say the dude is stepping up to a new level. Dalton's been good in these situations for a while; it's when the stakes get high that he crumbles. Meaning that to step up to a new level, he needs to perform at that time.
