    Brady Quinn actually brought up an interesting concept that people might be more apt to watch. He suggested a 4 team "developmental league" to feature former players like Sam, Michael Bush, etc that would pool together about 200 players (50 per team) and play a 3 or 4 game schedule in a "round robin" fashion. This would be situated somewhere between the Combine & the Draft to keep the NFL "out there" since they want to be on everyone's mind 24/7/365. People might buy into this more than an NFL Europe type deal just due to the more recognizable names.

    Its a solid idea, and with the backing of the NFL i'm sure it'd be mildly successful. Hell Vince McMahon's XFL wasn't that bad, and he did it on his own dime. But would also be a good venture to try out new rule changes instead of doing them in the preseason only, much like the defensive contact penalty from this year.

    Only thing though is that for the play on the field to be any good they need a lot of practices together and games. Look at the NFL....early season games seem to be sloppy and they have weeks of camp and pre season games.

    If they do 4 teams and do a round robin and play a few games it just wont be much to watch.

    Could be a way to evaluate players though. Thing is.......in camp they can bring in so many guys to look at, believe they have 80 in camps, that they can look at.

    What would you pay them? I mean, I'm not sure I'd want to play in a mini-NFL with the same existing conditions the NFL has, the same risks and NFL player has for a salary that isn't any more than what a practice squad player makes.

    For instance, minimum practice squad salary is $107K. Not a bad gig...and if I'm one of those guys, I'm already getting a decent run at making a roster on Sunday's. For the Brady Quinn's of the world, adopting a whole new league would seem a bit redundant considering how many guys make a training camp.

    The veteran camp was a good idea. Not so sure this idea of having 4-5 teams would be that great of one. Right now over 800 additional players can be on NFL rosters and get to practice and participate in preseason games for up to 3 weeks before teams have to get down to 75.

    I agree. You either can make it or you don't at some point. 32 NFL teams are not going to turn down a guy who they believe is talented enough to play in the game. This concept was already in practice with NFL Europe. Maybe if they bring back a developmental league like that, veterans can give that a go.

    I dont think the NFL would want to fund such a thing with all the costs and health care issues they would need to cover. It would be a big money pit I think. Plus, just to our north players the CFL almost fills that void anyways. With players required to be 21 or after their jr season to get drafted, college also is a free source to check out the players. Not perfect, still a better way to guage than in Baseball, hockey and even basketball.
    $$$ that floats the NFL is from TV revenue. Dont think networks would pony up much to have these sort of games.

    Not bashing you....But never once, have I ever heard that being brought up as to why Jay Cutler sucks 70% of the time.
