I think your hypothetical son here would be more ashamed of having to call you dad. Nice fail.Classlessposter58;1713662 wrote:Oh shut the fuck up. Ha come on this guy is scared baby and I would be ashamed if he were my son. To work so hard as he has throughout his life and just quit is weak
Tate is right, IPOTW indeed. -

I am pretty sure this is because of the sheer numbers. The $ is still highest in football. Soccer, I doubt is even top 5 for %. But, I dont know for sure.like_that;1713760 wrote: As for all the retirements in the NFL, this is becoming the biggest issue for the NFL, not just because people are retiring from the NFL, but because participation numbers at all levels are dropping. I heard on the radio a few months ago that there were actually more head related injuries in soccer (I forget at which level) than in football the last 2 years. I think football's (all levels) approach in providing safety actually has been working, but they are not doing a good job of getting that message across. There are a lot of over concerned mothers out there that need to be told why it is ok for their child to play football. -

Yea, it would've taken him more than a couple seasons, but if he stayed healthy, he would've pulled in a big contract barring injury. Saw a stat that he had 108 tkls on 400+ snaps, and CJ Mosley had 129 on 1000+ snaps. Borland was a beast, and very well may have ended up the top LB in the league.HighRoller74;1713707 wrote:Not if you're heart isn't in it anymore, its gonna up your likelihood of getting hurt. Plus as a 3rd round pick, he wouldn't have came close to that type of money. His rookie deal was 4yrs for 3m.
I did a little research on him last night. He has a degree in History, presumably to be a teacher/professor. He also had the most volunteer hours of any U-W student athlete ever, much of which was speaking at schools. I'd imagine he's pretty comfortable in front of a crowd. Personally I hope he goes out there and makes millions doing something else.HighRoller74;1713710 wrote:Not sure how good, or comfortable he is in front of a crowd, but have to think he'd have plenty of speaking engagement opportunities out there, especially if he becomes successful in some other area. -
Commander of AwesomeAgree with SE, hope to read one of these stories about him someday.

thavoiceOur HS team beat Borland and AKA in an epic 3 OT playoff thriller. Was good to see him do well at W and in SF. Surprised he did it this quick. THey said this AM he wrote home lsat year saying he wouldnt have a long career in the NFL.
Hell, cannot knock him if that is truly what he wants to do. I imagine he will be successful in other ventures as well.
SF is pretty much screwed! -
HereticMan, Classy out-did Footwedge in coming up with a moronic talk-radio-style hot take. That takes work. Or, maybe, suffering enough concussions that one's brain no longer works right.

MulvaThe guy made a personal career choice. Its not a "right or wrong" situation and not worthy of praise or criticism, in my opinion.

AutomatikLocker also retires. What a bitch!

Wonder if Mr. Detroit looks at Barry Sanders as a bitch. Dude retired when he was still in his prime and could have single-handedly kept the Lions at their peak of being semi-respectable for a few more years if he'd stuck around.Automatik;1713926 wrote:Locker also retires. What a bitch! -

Don't wait for a response, it won't happen. -
Ironman92***** bitch Bo Jackson was afraid to get hit in his hip so he just quit. Fucking pansy
-
se-alumBy classy'a logic, everyone should play until their body and/or mind can no longer function. Anyone that retire's before that are just big pussies!
-
Classyposter58Barry had a pretty long career in the league though, and Bo Jackson suffered a serious injury. I could understand if Borland had an injury riddled past or had played for a few seasons even in the league and saw his body deteriorating. But he is pretty damn healthy and has only been a pro for one season. Its obvious from those letters he became afraid and that's weak I think to throw away a career
-
wildcats20Just stop.
-
AutomatikITT I've learned.
If you choose to change careers, you're a *****. -
Classyposter58To change careers out of fear yes. He's never going to make that much money again
-
wildcats20Yeah all that money would have done wonders when he was shitting himself and having people change his diaper.

thavoiceReported today that he told the 49ers last year in camp he was likely to retire before this season.
A local kid, Ross Homan, played for OSU and then was drafted by the vikes. Suffered a bad concussion in training camp. When he got cut he didnt make much of an effort to try and go elsewhere as he said it just wasnt worth the beating. He had his degree and said he didnt need football.
It can happen.
Some talk about how the have been playing since youth. Most of the local teams here dont even start until they are in 7th grade, and are not permitted to lift until AFTER their 8th grade football season. -
