2015 Browns Offseason Thread

    You know, the Browns moves haven't been sexy, but we've improved while handling our finances wisely. I'm fairly pleased with this FA period.

    I'd agree the WR position has improved. Do they still look to draft a WR though with the first round picks? I'd hope so.

    Yes. Still need to land a #1.

    Can find that later in the draft, especially in rounds 2-4.

    Not too often are you landing a true #1 WR outside of the 1st round.

    I agree. Just feel like we need to come out of this class with a potential #1 WR. Can use the 19, and later round picks to address stopping the run, and grabbing a RT.

    And I know the last few SB winners haven't had top WRs, but they've all had way above average QB play, something we haven't.

    A super WR isn't going to solve a shitty QB situation (see Gordon's year with Weeden/Hoyer/Campbell).

    This. Spending the #12 pick on a WR is idiotic. Like buying a corvette but living in a trailer. Fix the fucking lines, STOP the fucking run, then get a prima donna bitch boy WR.

    Honestly WR would be like my 6th option at #12. QB/DT/DE/OLB/OG THEN WR

    Although I think the Browns need a #1 WR, they're just pissing in the wind until they get a legit QB to get them the ball. Loading up on good WR's with no QB to throw it to them is like buying a Ferrari and having no gas to drive it. Besides, having legit WR's with an inept QB is just going to frustrate a good receiving corps.

    They're better off fixing the lines, running the ball/stopping the run, and winning ugly until they can FINALLY get that franchise QB.

    EDIT: Just saw like_that's post essentially saying the same thing.

    So let me ask this then...how do the Browns go about getting their elite QB? I don't think they get it this year in the draft by staying where they're at, and free-agency let's be honest...no QB is going to want to come here on their own free will unless we grossly over-pay...Cleveland is seen as a place where QB's go to die. So they're either going to have to trade a good amount for someone of worth, or trade to move up?

    I'm half joking when I say this...but I'd be for going all 76'ers on the season and lose to get a high pick next year. Then, draft that #12 kid from OSU who is a Cleveland boy.

    Good question. I've thought about this quite a bit and unless they find a diamond in the rough (ala Tom Brady) in later rounds, tank and go for the top pick or sell the farm to get an elite QB, they will pretty much mire in mediocrity, or worse.

    There are only a handful of "elite" QB's but there are the "better than serviceable" QB's like a Stafford, Ryan, Flacco, etc. Unfortunately, this has been an issue since 1999. When they get it fixed, fans will se prosperity. I just have no idea how they are going to do it.

    And that's all you need if the supporting cast is good enough. Although I would definitely remove Stafford from that list. He's garbage, IMO, and it took me until this year to realize it.

    Oh, I'd take a Flacco or a Ryan, even a Bradford, in this offense and they'd likely be a playoff contender. With McCown, Manziel, etc I think they are looking at a top 10 draft pick again. I've believed for awhile that they have the pieces on both sides of the ball to play with anyone but the QB position screws them over every time.

    Like I said...half joking. Do I think by the end of the year he'll be the top QB coming out? Yes. Is next year's QB class pretty weak? Yes.

    He might not even be OSU's top QB and we have numerous posters thinking he will go first LOL. Looks like Troy smith all over again.

    Not saying "the next", but I seem some Randal Cunningham type tools in in Jones.

    I imagine the Browns will eventually have to give up a fair amount to move up in the draft to get a QB, and I'm ok with that, if and when all the other pieces are in place. Always been an advocate of building your team from the inside out. If you build a team this way, and then bring in a QB, there's a much better chance of having a QB be successful. I think you take a Grayson, Hundley, or Petty in the 3rd or 4th this year if they're around. It's a pretty cheap risk at that point.

    For two years we wanted Teddy then he was there and we passed and he was pretty good. This year feels the same with Mariotta. Everyone wants to doubt his ability to adjust but his tools are undeniable. We use his game against Ohio state against him but his line got owned. Move up and take the guy and don't look back.

    Big difference with Bridgewater coming out of a pro-style offense where he had to make reads, and Mariota coming out of an offense where he didn't have to make reads. I think Mariota will eventually be a good, serviceable NFL QB, but you trade that much to move up for an eventual starter.

    Yeah, there were browns fans with a banner at Heinz field rooting for the steelers to beat them so they could have a better pick and select Teddy. I think TB is/was more pro ready than MM is

    I like Hundley, but I think we'd probably have to take him in the 2nd if we want him. Who knows though. This whole Mariota thing could be smoke screen.
