I played against a dude today who plays in Switzerland professionally and he said he recently played against Derrick Rose in some summer thing. The jist of the story is that he said DRose was terrible, couldn't score and couldn't defend anyone. Said it looked like he had lost all passion to play the game after being out for two years basically. Take it with a grain of salt or whatever but DRose may never even be close to what he was before. His entire game was based on athleticism.
If Carmelo goes to Chicago and they don't have to give up Gibson, they are the favorites to win the East in Vegas. That's not really in question.

And your friend sounds like a fucking idiot. I'm shocked Rose wasn't going 100% coming off a near career-ending injury in a pickup game against a guy who spends his free time trying to take over YMCA pickup games.

Right that's why I was saying take it with a grain of salt. The guy I talked to said he looked terrible though, like he had lost all confidence and passion to play the game.

He's not my friend just some dude I played with, I said take it with a grain of salt but apparently you didn't read the whole post. He said he was terrible. Doesn't mean anything just thought it was interesting.

He's playing in pickup games that you're apparently good enough to hang in and you buy his shit about playing in a pickup game with Rose?

Chicago doesn'y even have cap space right now. They would need to do a lot of clearing and would look quite a bit different if they were to land melo.

They would be good but not better than those Cavs. All hypothetical of course because we don't know what's going to happen, doesn't look like Melo is going to go to Chicago.
I dont know if Rose will be the player he is until he steps on the court, not sure how you could know hes not the player he was before he even plays a game either.

And as far as Melo being a ball stopper. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1959538-is-carmelo-anthony-really-a-one-dimensional-player-for-ny-knicks Hes actually very good at passing out of double teams and finding the open man. Hes no lebron, but hes not a black hole by any means. But yeah like you said doesnt matter bc hes not going to Chicago anyways

It was an observation, good god lol Let's make a huge deal about it. I just thought it was interesting. Me playing with him has absolutely nothing to do with it.

I don't know for sure, no one does. But it's hard to imagine that he will be the same player mentally, let alone physically. He shot 35% from the field last year in a small sample size but that's not good obviously. Melo has a reputation as the biggest ball stopper in the league, his whole game is based off isolation. Now if he were going to play with an unselfish star then I think he could do well as a catch and shoot player but Rose isn't that player.

    A few thoughts:

    1. I think it'd be between them and Chicago in the east, depending on what 'Melo does.

    .....

    2. I'd be very surprised if we didn't have answers re: Lebron and/or Melo by the end of the day.

    3. I just don't see how Lebron goes back to Miami. IMO, Bosh is incapable of being that solid, dependable #2 guy to pick up the slack. Wade played 2/3 of the season and had a limited impact, and he'll be another season older. As it stands, they certainly haven't gotten better so far. I think you could argue they've gotten worse.

    4. God only knows what goes on behind the scenes. Lebron/Wade/Bosh/Riley could be working on some super-secret deal to bring in 'Melo, Kobe, Duncan, Brett Favre, Mike Trout, Manziel, and Jordan out of retirement. I say that jokingly, but obviously these guys wheel and deal on their own, behind the scenes.

That picture of Bennett is exciting. Looks like he took the off-season very seriously. I hope it shows up in his game, too.
