The only thing I really have to say, and I realize times have changed wiht some states making it illegal, is that I dont understand how and why they would put themselves at such a risk to getting suspended for doing it? They have the easiest excuse ever as to why they shouldnt do it......that they get drug tested for their employment.BR1986FB;1622198 wrote:One opinion on weed in the NFL....

I guess what I dont understand is that they are so dedicated in training and working out yet do something as trivial that can get them suspended and losing money. -
BR1986FB
I agree that they are dumbasses for doing it but for a player to get a year off for weed when some guys (vehicular manslaughter, rape, domestic violence, guns, etc) get a reduced sentences is ridiculous.thavoice;1622203 wrote:The only thing I really have to say, and I realize times have changed wiht some states making it illegal, is that I dont understand how and why they would put themselves at such a risk to getting suspended for doing it? dont forget though to get a year banishment for weed you have had to tripped up a number of times prior. Isnt it like the first time it is nothing and put into a program, second is a short suspension, 3rd a year is pretty much what I recall for recreational drugs. -
BR1986FB
Oh, Gordon (for instance) is a moron. Hitting the bong is more important than a career and millions of dollars. He definitely proved that there's "no I in team but there is a me."thavoice;1622206 wrote:I dont disagree but

BR1986FBPer Adam Schefter.....
Word around NFL is that when Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson get new deals next year, they will come in between $24-$25 million per year.
Luck? Yes. Wilson? Hell no!
Wilson is essentially a game manager who walked into the perfect storm. If you need a game winning drive with a minute left I can think of about 15 other QB's I'd rather have in that situation over Wilson. -
lakeflyerMike
Completely agree on Wilson, but he's done nothing but win in the NFL so I guess he gets paid. The good thing with the money their going to throw his way is it will be downfall of Seattle Seahawks. He's very affordable right now which gives plenty of cap space for that defense.BR1986FB;1622794 wrote:Per Adam Schefter.....

SportsAndLadyI would love Wilson on my team and would gladly give him 25 mil a year.
Yes his surroundings were top notch but he made plays when they needed it. He's a game manager but can win you games. That's exactly what I want in a QB. -
like_thatI said the same thing about Wilson and a few Seahawks fans got butt hurt.

Wilson is not a guy that you depend on to win a game IMO. He's not like Rodgers/Brady/Brees/manning where if things go wrong you can at least count on them to being the team back in it. Those guys are worth that money, not Wilson. Wilson to me is like a middle of the rotation guy with an inflated record because his lineup is ridiculous (see: 1995 Indians).SportsAndLady;1622806 wrote:I would love Wilson on my team and would gladly give him 25 mil a year.

I don't disagree, really. I just wouldn't be upset paying him that money if I was a hawks fan.like_that;1622808 wrote:Wilson is not a guy that you depend on to win a game IMO. BR1986FB
Agreed. Put him in a different situation and I don't think he's nearly as successful. Like I said, perfect storm. He's like an Alex Smith-type QB. Not necessarily going to lose you games (like a Weeden or Sanchez would with their boneheaded stupidity) but not likely going to lead you on a 95 yard game winning drive with his arm either.like_that;1622808 wrote:Wilson is not a guy that you depend on to win a game IMO. A win is a win but I can think of one situation (Green Bay jump ball) where he was given a gift.like_that;1622820 wrote:Those stats don't tell the full story.
And I'm not going to begrudge the dude for getting paid. I just don't think he's worth it. -
AutomatikPlays still have to be made and Wilson has shown he can make them. I don't think he's all world either....yet, but until he shows me different, no point in knocking him.

It appears that even if the stats don't "tell the whole story", he's more than capable of leading 4th quarter game winning drives, which speaks directly against what some of you have said.
Also, with the salary cup jumping +$10 million this year and expected to continue to rise sharply, $25 million for Wilson (it's clear Luck will be worth it) is still less of an overpay than the $20~ million per the Ravens gave Flacco before last year. -
BR1986FB
And here's the thing, what is the definition of a "game winning drive?"lhslep134;1622825 wrote:It appears that even if the stats don't "tell the whole story", he's more than capable of leading 4th quarter game winning drives, which speaks directly against what some of you have said.
When I think game winning drive I'm thinking "the QB who has the ball last who leads the team to victory as time expires."
Somehow, I get the feeling the statisticians have a different definition. If a QB leads his team to a lead in the 4th quarter with 4:00 minutes left and possession changes 2-3 times after that is that a "game winning drive?" I'm talking pressure situation to close out a game type of drive.
I think that stat may have become watered down over time. -
lhslep134BR, there's a 3 part link on that Russell Wilson page explaining how they came up with it. So before you go throwing out those stats, read it for yourself and decide if their determinative process is sufficient for you.
From my brief glance over, it seems they try and weed out the situations you described. -

I'm not knocking him either. He can still develop into the QB where you are relying on to win games, but currently he is not worth 25 million a year.Automatik;1622822 wrote:Plays still have to be made and Wilson has shown he can make them. I get a kick out of people so in disbelief of the recreational drug policy of the NFL.BR1986FB;1622204 wrote:I agree that they are dumbasses for doing it but for a player to get a year off for weed when some guys (vehicular manslaughter, rape, domestic violence, guns, etc) get a reduced sentences is ridiculous.
Every company I have worked for since college had a recreational drug policy just as strict (or worse) than the NFL. We had pre-employment tests and sometimes random tests. If you fail ONE TEST they have the right to fire you on the spot. If you go to them before any announced tests and talk about your problem with HR they will get you to a treatment facility/professional/etc. However, if you fail the test then ask for help you are still pretty much fired.
That is one test, period. The NFL gives multiple escalating penalties for failed tests.
Much of corporate America is much more strict on recreational drug use than the NFL but somehow we are in utter disbelief that the NFL is this strict on the players?
Come on, really? They would be completely fired with the first failed test at a corporate job, here they get varying suspensions until they just can't figure it out. -
lhslep134Jmog, sounds like you don't really have a sense of why the the athletes and teams want to change the marijuana policy if you're comparing it to corporate America.

I agree. They are expecting a huge upside that is for sure.like_that;1622847 wrote:I'm not knocking him either. He can still develop into the QB where you are relying on to win games, but currently he is not worth 25 million a year.
For whatever reason I dont get as fired up about bad contracts NFL teams make as I do in MLB, most likely because of the cap. I applauded when the Ravens signed Flacco to that deal....just gives them less $$$ they can spend on the rest of their roster. -

That's like me saying the NFL shouldn't fire for failed drug test since Mexican druglords wouldn't fire their employees for failing a drug test.
The NFL isn't a Mexican cartel. Nor is it corporate America. -
lhslep134
I think that's a terrible comparison too (which I know is your point ha).SportsAndLady;1622860 wrote:This.

The NFL teams and their players want to revise the Marijuana policy for it's medicinal (read: pain relief) purposes rather than use questionable drugs like Taradol.
