2014 Cleveland Browns Offseason Thread

bases_loadedOnly has to hold up for 2

Midstate01The deal is front loaded. After 2 years the Browns can cut him.
-
like_thatThe deal is mostly front loaded on year 1 too. So if he really sucks he won't be that much of a casualty.
-
like_thatSome linebackers play their best football at the end of their careers (I.e fletcher), hopefully dansby follows suit.

GoChiefsByrd went to New Orleans.

Midstate0111 mil up front for Whitner and 14 mil up front for Dansby
-
Midstate01Or I guess I should say in year 1, counting bonuses

se-alumI haven't reallly watched Moats play, but his numbers aren't impressive, don't see where signing him over drafting a LB in the 3rd or 4th round is to the Browns advantage.

shook_17Not sure why the Browns are hot and heavy for Hawkins. A lot of money for a little production
-
friendfromlowryThe Bengals bloggers/insiders I follow on Twitter didn't anticipate the Bengals matching on Hawkins. $4/million for their 4th WR option wasn't practical from their perspective, and probably Mike Brown's as well.

It's about future production. They see Hawkins as someone who will develop into someone worth of more than the contract given. Not that hard to see.shook_17;1589175 wrote:Not sure why the Browns are hot and heavy for Hawkins. A lot of money for a little production -
Terry_Tate
Jared Abbrederis isn't really a slot guy though IMO, he's more like Eric Decker or Jordy Nelson. Think those are the more appropriate white WR comparisons, not Wes Welker or Julian Edelman. He could be a #3 receiver but just see him being better on the outside and not just doing mostly underneath routes.lhslep134;1589077 wrote:No, but Jared Abbrederis in the 4th round is.
Edit: Googled it and sounds like people are projecting him as a slot receiver. Wouldn't doubt whether people think that just because he's white though, lol. He may not have elite speed but I think he has great technique and will be a good NFL WR. Would be wise for the Browns to get him. -
Terry_TateAs for Hawkins, it's not hard to do but he's better than any WR they had last year aside from JG obviously. I question if he can stay healthy for all 16 games or is good enough to get 80 catches but he has nice potential so don't think it's a bad move. He was never going to get the opportunity to showcase his talents in Cincinnati given the guys ahead of him so it's hard to tell how good he was/can be.

I read they were unlikely to match.Commander of Awesome;1589209 wrote:Reading the bengals are matching the browns offer. -
Commander of Awesome@AdamSchefter: Bengals plan to match 4-yr, $12.2M offer sheet that includes $5,3M gtd that Cincinnati RFA WR Andrew Hawkins signed with Cleveland.
-
like_thatFucking Schefter. At least the browns succeeded in forcing cincy to pay him. Now who do the browns go after?

You're drafting Watkins reguardless of which reciever you get.bases_loaded;1589222 wrote:Sanders, Decker, or draft Watkins -
like_thatIf we don't get a QB I much rather draft a defensive player before entertaining the idea of a WR.

Commander of AwesomeBrent Sobleski ‏@brentsobleski 2m Was told Arthur Moats to Browns could get done today, and team still interested in Emmanuel Sanders. So, we'll see

if Watkins is at 4, they'll take him. If not, they'll go QB and WR at 26. Either way you have to draft a WR and a RB in the first 2 rounds. You don't have to draft QB this year.like_that;1589239 wrote:If we don't get a QB I much rather draft a defensive player before entertaining the idea of a WR. -

You definitely don't have to draft a WR with the first pick and you sure as hell don't have to draft a RB in the first round. We already have a super WR (not to mention another great option in Cameron). We don't need to go after another potential super WR. We have way too many other needs. Not to mention as I have said before, name the last team that won a SB with a bunch of super star WRs...ZWICK 4 PREZ;1589248 wrote:if Watkins is at 4, they'll take him. I guess you haven't learned your lesson the last 13 years regarding the QB position. As long as the franchise keeps getting cute with that position, it will go nowhere.
