2013/14 NBA season chatter - let the LBJ hating begin!

I forgot about Wall, yeah he's either very good or below average, but he is getting there. I guess it depends on what your team needs but Deron is a more complete player than both Rondo and Conley, I would take him every day of the week over those guys. Plus I hate Rondo's attitude, he's childish and a punk.KB0938;1609895 wrote:Dwill isnt exactly known for his defense either though, at all. Rondo and Conley cant shoot better than Williams at all, but theyre just as skilled at passing and play way better defense. Only player I might put em over on that list is Wall because hes so up and down and idk if this year is him maturing, or if its just a freak occurrence. -

Look at his career averages, they are basically the same as Chris Pauls, and he outplays Paul almost every time they play against eachother.SportsAndLady;1609898 wrote:Deron Williams sucks dude -

He doesn't suck.robj55;1609900 wrote:Look at his career averages, they are basically the same as Chris Pauls, and he outplays Paul almost every time they play against eachother.
But he's not an elite player. -

There are very few elite players, is Chris Paul elite?SportsAndLady;1609901 wrote:He doesn't suck.

He is better than Williams. That is all that matters.robj55;1609902 wrote:There are very few elite players, is Chris Paul elite?
And I used to be in love with his game. But he has fallen off. Injuries or not, he isn't the same player. Chris Paul has dealt with injuries and his level of play hasn't dropped. Hell, if anything, he has gotten better. -

It's pretty much all subjective, I'll wait til next year to see when he gets healthy again if he's not the same player or not. He was tremendous the second half of last year and then was hurt all year this year. Another factor I think you have to factory in to whether a player is elite or not is winning. Neither Paul nor Williams has really won anything, and Paul is like 10 plus games under .500 in the playoffs. I really only think there are very few truly elite players in the game, there are a lot of very good players though.wildcats20;1609904 wrote:He is better than Williams. That is all that matters.

wildcats20Chris Paul leads Deron Williams in EVERY SINGLE stat there is. And that includes D Will actually playing 31 more games AND 540 MORE minutes in their careers.
Elite or not, CP3 > DWill. -
wildcats20Also, since everyone seems to be in love with the PER stat...
CP3 - 25.9
D Will - 19.1 -
robj55
I agree he's better, but their stats career wise are very similar. CP3 also has a greater responsibility in his offense than DWill does. I'm not arguing with you. Chris Paul averages 1 point per game better, 1 assist per game, and shoots 2% better from the field and they are even from 3. Just saying it's not as wide of a margin as people may think. Neither have won anything of significance.wildcats20;1609907 wrote:Chris Paul leads Deron Williams in EVERY SINGLE stat there is. What all goes into the PER stat? Curious how they calculate it.wildcats20;1609909 wrote:Also, since everyone seems to be in love with the PER stat...

I don't think it ever has been said how it comes together...To generate PER, I created formulas -- outlined in tortuous detail in my book "Pro Basketball Forecast" -- that return a value for each of a player's accomplishments. That includes positive accomplishments such as field goals, free throws, 3-pointers, assists, rebounds, blocks and steals, and negative ones such as missed shots, turnovers and personal fouls. -

Seems fishy, but interesting.wildcats20;1609912 wrote:I don't think it ever has been said how it comes together... -
Laley23Just, curious...but why do I care about career stats if I am judging players THIS YEAR??
Williams was not very good. If he was the same player he was at one point, he would be taking more than 11 shots a game, because he would still be Brooklyns best player. But he doesnt, because he isnt a top PG this year. -
Laley23Also, how the FUCK is this not called a travel.

He has to share the load with JJ, PP and others, of course his shots are going to go down. He has less responsibility on offense. There are only so many shots in a game.Laley23;1609918 wrote:Just, curious...but why do I care about career stats if I am judging players THIS YEAR??

robj55So who does everyone think makes it to the finals at this point? Pretty much a toss up.
-
KB0938I have absolutely no clue lol, most of the series are damn good and theres no clear frontrunner in these playoffs imo. The heat are obviously playing well....but its Charlotte
-
Laley23
They easily couldve been down 0-2 heading back to Charlotte. I dont think they are playing all that well, despite being 3-0.KB0938;1609929 wrote:I have absolutely no clue lol, most of the series are damn good and theres no clear frontrunner in these playoffs imo. I still think it will be them or the Pacers in the East. West is a fucking crapshoot. I dont even think I can convince myself of a single series in the first round yet, let alone the finals. -
robj55
haha yeah it has been great. Miami seems to really be amping up their defense. People say oh it's just Charlotte but they are a pretty good team and a tremendous defensive team. I'm not sure Indy will even get by Atlanta let alone Washington in the next round the way things are looking right now. I picked the Clippers to get to the finals before the season but there are quite a few teams that could emerge from that conference.Laley23;1609931 wrote:They easily couldve been down 0-2 heading back to Charlotte. Yeah these playoffs feel like an extended march madness or something lol Probably won't be able to get an idea of frontrunners til the next round.KB0938;1609929 wrote:I have absolutely no clue lol, most of the series are damn good and theres no clear frontrunner in these playoffs imo. MulvaWhat a possession by Mo Gotti. Gets the hustle steal and then the huge 3.
