2013/14 NBA season chatter - let the LBJ hating begin!

In the NBA, any pick outside of the top 20 or so is iffy to even make the roster and outside of the top 40 is very unlikely. The ability to build a roster in the NBA draft is much more difficult and takes longer than the NFL. One good draft in the NFL that brings you 5 or 6 immediate contributors can take a team from worst to playoffs (look at the Chiefs). Vice versa, look at the the Falcons who haven't done squat in the draft for 2 years.
This just further proves my point how stupid this proposal is. -
Azubuike24I agree. I wish the NBA would go a strict worst record gets best pick format. Tanking is rewarded much less in the NBA because even if you get 3 or 4 straight top 5 picks, it doesn't mean anything.
For every OKC who has built a core about about 4 or 5 straight first rounders, you have the Clippers of the 90's and many other more recent examples of teams who have yet to build anything. -
Tigerfan00Sadly OKC window for winning it all has come and gone. That Harden trade really hurt them and outside of the big 2 they really don't have a whole lot. Other teams in the west are starting to build their teams and OKC isn't.

wes_mantoothI don't care what people say....the nba is hot garbage as an overall product...at least it is to me. Even when the cavs were good, I couldn't watch an entire game. This draft bs would just further damage an already shitty product

True, but they actually had a legit core with Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka and Harden all very high picks. All 4 are serious impact players who lived up to expectations. Many other franchises have had the same level of picks over a decade and maybe 25-50% of them actually produce.Tigerfan00;1557313 wrote:Sadly OKC window for winning it all has come and gone. Look at the Pelicans. Or Kings. Or Bobcats. All have had tons of top picks and at this point, some are great (Davis, Walker, Cousins) and others have been so-so. You can't expect everyone to be great and guys can be very, very solid players even if they don't turn into superstars. However, that just goes to show you, if you have a top 10 pick even 5 years in a row, you might not even find a superstar... -

7th in offensive efficiency, 3rd in defensive efficiency. Only other team that good in both is San Antonio.
Thanks for admitting you haven't watched the Thunder yet this year. There's no way that you could have watched them play recently and still feel that opinion. -

Since when has the thunder window for opportunity come and gone? Lmao as long as they have Westbrook and Durant they're serious contenders. -

Even the Cavs used to be awesome in the regular season. We will see how they fare when the playoffs roll around and they go up against good teams like Portland, SA and the Clips all who have built teams and aren't just 2 guys.lhslep134;1557363 wrote:7th in offensive efficiency, 3rd in defensive efficiency. Ironman92Clips and Portland haven't done a thing in the postseason.

We'll see how the trailblazers handle the post season and the clips I am not sold on with griffin and his defense in the playoffs. I think people sell the thunder short, because of what happened in the playoffs last year. Westbrook stays healthy, then we are looking at them in the WCF agains the Spurs imo.Tigerfan00;1557400 wrote:Even the Cavs used to be awesome in the regular season. Im by no means trying to say they aren't good, cause they are a good team but they just seem to be 1 player away from getting over the hump. Also I am not the biggest Griffin fan either but there is a lot to like about that team.like_that;1557404 wrote:We'll see how the trailblazers handle the post season and the clips I am not sold on with griffin and his defense in the playoffs. Ironman92Clippers have trouble with their bench and I know everyone creams about CP3 but IMO he has too many 4-13 games.
I kinda bashed Griffin to start the season but he's had a pretty good year.
Crawford off the bench is fun to watch but he can go 4/14 in his 20 min of play.
I think Doc will need a year to get them there but they are still missing at least a player to go to the WCF -

JJ Redick and Jordan are both putting up good numbers also. Dudley and Collison have produced off the bench. I have to laugh when I see Antawn Jamison and Ryan Hollins at the end of their bench. Jamison cant afford to retire or what?Ironman92;1557407 wrote:Clippers have trouble with their bench and I know everyone creams about CP3 but IMO he has too many 4-13 games.

Ironman92Jordan is a nice center in the league. I do like what JJ brings to them. His range opens it up even more for Griffin gives Paul a great dishing option.

Ironman92Still would like to implement a rule that if you get touched while shooting a 3 pointer and you fall down, almost fall down, flail arms or legs....TECHNICAL
If you are an elite athlete and you shoot a jump shot....your elbow being grazed my affect your shot, but it shouldn't make your legs do the splits. -
Ironman92That Greg Oden video of him practicing made me sad.....pitiful

Players have been taught to sell contact since they were kids, hard to change that.Ironman92;1557456 wrote:Still would like to implement a rule that if you get touched while shooting a 3 pointer and you fall down, almost fall down, flail arms or legs....TECHNICAL

That's one clip, from what I have read he looks really good in practice and could play and make an impact now, obviously they are saving him.Ironman92;1557460 wrote:That Greg Oden video of him practicing made me sad.....pitiful -

He's always been a bit robotic in his movements, even in college.Ironman92;1557466 wrote:I've heard that too....but man that looked like a 65 year old man who just got out of bed trying to do a post move.
