2013/14 NBA season chatter - let the LBJ hating begin!

Brook Lopez out for the season. Brooklyn is done. Not that they were playing well, but I still would have expected them to make the playoffs.

They were pretenders even with Lopez. Terrible washed up roster. Wouldn't be surprised to see them make the playoffs (its the east after all) but that team sucks.

Not really sure if it was ever discussed, but the Bobcats will become the Hornets again next year. New logos were revealed tonight..

Those logos are decent. Way better than the Pelicans or the current Bobcats.

[h=3]NBA Considering Draft Wheel System To Eliminate Lottery[/h] Dec 23, 2013 12:23 PM EST
The NBA is considering a proposal to eliminate the draft lottery as we currently know it in favor of a draft wheel.
The draft wheel would allow team to cycle through every draft slot and be guaranteed one top-six pick every five seasons and at least one top-12 pick in every four-year span.
The system is designed to protect against teams attempting to be bad or letting themselves be bad for a high draft pick.
The concept has gained traction in the higher levels of the NBA's league office and could be proposed to owners sometime in 2014, according to sources.
Others have expressed early opposition to the proposal.

-Not sure how I feel about this. I dont want a team like the Heat to end up with the #1 overall pick. Seems drastic.
[h=3]Rockets, Nets Briefly Discussed Deron Williams For Asik, Lin Trade[/h] Dec 23, 2013 12:35 PM EST
The Brooklyn Nets and Houston Rockets discussed a trade of Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik for Deron Williams.
Sources also confirmed the report to Howard Beck of Bleacher Report.
"Nothing came of it. ... seems dead," said a source.
Dwight Howard was long tied to teaming up with Williams as a member of the Nets.

[h=3]Ford Would Take Giannis Antetokounmpo First Overall In 2013 Re-Draft[/h] Dec 23, 2013 2:06 PM EST
Giannis Antetokounmpo would be selected first overall by Chad Ford if he were to re-draft the 2013 class.
Victor Oladipo would go second again, while Michael Carter-Williams would move up to third overall.
The Cleveland Cavaliers selected Anthony Bennett first overall, while the Washington Wizards took Otto Porter.
The Milwaukee Bucks took Antetokounmpo with the 15th overall pick.

-After watching him against the Cavs, hard to argue with this.

Why don't they do it like football? Base it off record with no chance of lottery.

    Teams would tank even more.

If this happens I will be done with the NBA for good. I mainly only pay attention to the cavs now with what the NBA has become, but this system would just completely ruin it for me. What a stupid fucking idea. The NBA might as well just go to 10 teams (all big market) and get it over with. With the current system, at least when your prima donna athlete wants to collude with another star player and leave his small market team (or just leave to a bigger city in general) the small market team has the hopes of finding a star with a top pick. With this system, it just completely dooms small market teams. Imagine the cavs having the 29th pick their first season after Lebron left. Not only that, top rookies will see the draft order before hand, and they might stay another year in college knowing that the top pick is going to a small market team, the following year the top pick is going to LA or NYC. The NBA is slowly becoming a joke where we can legitimately say only a handful teams have a chance of winning it all (look at the NFL, hell in the NFC alone I think 4 teams have a chance of winning it all), this system would make it even more lopsided. They were too cute with the lottery, and now they are getting too cute with this system. Not sure what preventing tanking is going to do. Unless you are a fan of that specific team, most casual NBA fans are not going to watch that team play if they suck ass, tanking or not.

If they are trying to get more people interested in the league and more excited about their teams, then follow the NFL's format. The NFL has a sense of parity, and they allow franchises to keep their star players.

I agree, might as well mandate that every team wins a trophy every 6 yrs too.

Also if you are the fanbase of a shitty team, and they completely whiff on the #1 pick, I am willing to bet that fanbase will check out for a long time considering their next pick will be #30.

Apparently the Celtics weren't happy with Lance Stephenson showboating when the Pacers were murdering them. My favorite part was this Born Ready quote:

"Stephenson continued: “If it comes out in the flow of the game, it happens, I don’t go into the game saying, ‘When I make this shot I’m going to do this dance.’ It just comes out. I’m surprised when it happens. When I make a shot, sometimes I’m surprised. I’m like, ‘Wow.’ So I’m like congratulating myself.”

The NFL Draft is much different than the NBA Draft. All picks are much more valuable and because of non-guaranteed contracts, teams are much more likely to focus on the draft. It makes picks tougher to trade and any future pick a HUGE risk to deal.

In the NBA, any pick outside of the top 20 or so is iffy to even make the roster and outside of the top 40 is very unlikely. The ability to build a roster in the NBA draft is much more difficult and takes longer than the NFL. One good draft in the NFL that brings you 5 or 6 immediate contributors can take a team from worst to playoffs (look at the Chiefs). Vice versa, look at the the Falcons who haven't done squat in the draft for 2 years.
