    Way to go Tigers.

    11 in a row.

Max for the sweep tomorrow....keep it going!

    :(

You gotta lot of speed on this team Tito. Use it.

This is the only way I can describe this.

We are the son and the Tigers are the dad playing 1on1 in the driveway. We are at the point where dad isn't totally dominating and swatting every shot but just letting us hang around, toying with us, and then he turns it on and wins every time. At some point, the son grows a little bit, gets a bit smarter and stronger, and then he starts beating his dad and never looks back. Hopefully, that is next year because this year has been a disaster vs them.

I have a hard time believing any team would tell a player to just swing for the fences and just pull the ball. It literally makes no sense. Also, he would not have any, let alone multiple .330 seasons.

Can't blame Salazar for last night. The kid brought it. Basically 2 mistakes killed him. He is the only pitcher this year to strike out miggy 3 times.

if you mean he strikes out a lot...well yeah. A manager's job is to use what he has effectively and for a good part, Tito has used Stubbs pretty well. But this Tigers series, he's playing the game tight.

Just my thoughts, but he manages this team like he's got a couple of big boppers in the lineup (2004...Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz)....but he doesn't. My gawd...we have Druby in the 4 hole! The team has offensive assets (speed) but he doesn't use it to manufacture runs or get guys into scoring position.
I like Francona and he obviously has other strengths as a manager...I just think he needs to tweak this team's offensive game plan, especially when playing a team like the Tigers. You just can't sit back and wait for the big hit.

..other thoughts. The Tribe gives Raburn a 2 year contract extension (4.85 million with a 3rd year club option!) need to use him more often despite his bad nite at the plate last nite.

Asdrubal is not doing well hitting 4th. The move might have helped Swisher, but not Cabrerra. I think you put Santana in the 4 spot and drop Druby to 6th or 7th.

    ...

Not sure where all that came from my post...agree with how he's being used, but he's the same player.

^^^sorry, Ironman..my post is not at you but at my frustration of the way that game played out. I think evrybody on the thread last nite expected him to strike out to end the game. Stubbs can be a valuable player...so why didn't we use his greatest asset when he was on base? I don't think our manager gave us the best opportunity to win last nite.

Last night solidifed to me the Indians are playing for the sencond Wildcard spot.
No way can they catch the Tigers now, not 6 out.
  • Dr. KnOiTaLL
You guys do realize we are tied for 2nd in the majors in team stolen bases, right? We run a lot, and I've been very pleased with our aggressiveness on the bases. In end of game situations though, with guys like Bourn, Kipnis, and Stubbs who can score from first on a gapper, you don't want to blow your chance by trying to steal when they are practically in scoring position already. Tito has brought significantly more out of this team than we've seen in recent years. We knew strikeouts were going to be a problem coming in, so Stubbs .244 average doesn't bother me all that much because I knew it was coming in early March.

I thought so coming in as Detroit is solid in basically every area.

It will be interesting to see how this Tribe team comes back from this series. Remember we lost 3 of 4 the last time Detroit was in town and then finished the pre all-star season 5-1

But we are now 2.5 down in the WC race and I know Texas still has another series or two with the Angels (who they just dominated) and still 10 games left with the worthless Astros.

A lot of baseball left but without the killer instinct to close out games when ahead late, the Tribe will be on the outside looking in.

It's not the complete lack of steals.

For me, it's the lack of timing and the lack of steals from individuals. As a team, we look like we run a lot. But Kipnis SHOULD NOT be leading this team in steals. Stubbs should be running 90% of the time he is on. With our issues all year from Swiser and Cabrera, Bourn should run more. We should have more hit and runs. We should have 3 guys with 20+ steals and Cabrera and Brantley should have 10+ and 15+ respectively.
  • Laley23
And I know there is a lot more to base stealing than getting on and going. But if your at a 75% clip or above I say go more often than not. That's turning a single into a double 75% of the time.

Only thing is the Dad is still young and has a few years of owning left

Why? He had years where he was around .300 with 30 HR's

.300 and .330 are WAY different. .300 is good. .330 multiple times is HOF good.

    YAY!!!!!!!!!

    Mark Reynolds
    - 1B - Indians

Indians designated INF Mark Reynolds for assignment.

Reynolds got off to a scorching start this season, especially power-wise, but he was batting just .133/.246/.150 since the beginning of July. Lonnie Chisenhall has taken over at third base for the Tribe. Preston Guilmet, a right-handed reliever, was promoted from the minors in a corresponding roster move.

^^^Laley predicted he'd hit 30 homers, and I said he'd be lucky to get to 20...looks like we were both wrong.
