NBA Draft

Anyone going to watch the Lottery tonight?

What players are you hoping your team can draft? Who's your favorite player in this year's draft, sleeper, over rated, etc?
  • mucalum49
I'll be watching. Ideally I would like the Cavs to get Otto Porter and Steven Adams. I figure to get Adams we'd need to trade up using one or both of our second rounders to package with #19.

If the Cavs keep a second I would like to see Reggie Bullock or Tony Snell. Both are projected late first/early second.

As for the Bobcats since I'm down here I have minimal interest in following them. But I'd like to see the team at least be competitive. With that I am hoping they go for either Ben McLemore or Anthony Bennett in the top 5. If they win the lottery then it'll be Noel.

I don't care what pick the Cavs get, but I want Porter. I've been calling for him to the Cavs since mid season. Elite defender, good ball handing, decent jumper, althetic, 6'9" yup sign me up.

    That means it won't happen.

Kyrie's game would fit well with Porter. I think Porter could go #2, though. Definitely dont see him falling past 3

Oladipo for the Cavs. For a few reasons. #1 is obvious, he is my favorite player. #2 is I think he is the safest, most surefire pick to help a team. He doesnt have the upsode of others, but his work ethic and athleticism assures he wont be a bust and will contribute on a nightly basis.

He has never been a main focus of his team offensivly, even in HS (6th man), yet gets his points and makes a huge impact in every game. Perfect for a team like the Cavs with other offensive weapons...

I like Oladipo, but he is a 2 in the NBA. Dont see the Cavs drafting him with Waiters.

He probably will end up as a 2. But I think he could play a 3. Defensively he guarded guys bigger then him all year, and we all know how that played out.

Offensively, his size wont matter. He doesnt use it at all. Hell, he wont even have plays drawn up for him anyway.

I agree I dont see the Cavs taking him, but I could see him as a 3 in the NBA if a team with a 2 already takes him.
  • Laley23
For instance, Portland is trying to trade up from 10 to land him. They already have Wes Mathewes at 6-5 at the SG position...

I could only see him guarding the 3 for spot duty, like Tony Allen, who took turns with Prince guarding Durant last series, but did guard him in crunch time.
Could be wrong, but I think his height and wingspan were a little overstated coming into the combine. JMO on him, though.

Cant blame an established team for doing that. Matthews is probably the weak link in the starting lineup outside of Hixon. I also heard Portland is looking to trade the pick for a big man. Hoping the Cavs can trade Andy to them lol.

He measured at 6'4.5" (half in shorter than listed college height)

However, Otto Porter measured at 6'7.25" (1.75 inches shorter than listed college height)

I think Porter is the better fit on paper for the Cavs. But from a biased point of view, I have never seen someone work as hard as Victor Oladipo, and for that reason I dont see him being a bust (something I dont think I can say about almost anyone else in the draft).

I guess I just dont see why you would draft a guy that athletic because his height is 1.5 inches shorter than your starting SF. No way he isnt an immediate upgrade over Gee.

Now, if you like Porter more, thats different. I happen to think he might be a huge bust. But its all a damn crapshoot this year, really.

Hoping the cavs go bpa, not including point guards. I think mclemore is easily the best player in the draft. Wouldn't love or hate porter.

I would like Larkin or Snell late 1/early 2.

I'm expecting Chris Grant to take someone like mason plumlee 3rd overall.

To play F4F here, that was the same thing that people said about Evan Turner.
  • Laley23
Didnt Tony Snell have an amazing Combine? I think he is rising the boards. Im guessing mid-late 1st for him, if what I read is true.

I dont remember that, cause I wasnt on Cavs threads then. But I would never have wanted Turner. He just looked slow in college and didnt seem to have an NBA game at all. Complete opposite of Oladipo.

Sheesh. Some hate for Chris Grant. Something you dont see often...

Anyways, some guys I am liking with our second pick/second rounders are Snell, Larkin, Ledo, and Bullock. (Assuming we go big with the 1st big). I have a feeling they will package the second rounders along with #19 to move up, though.

Edit: forgot about Hardaway as well. Dude lit it up at the combine. We need more shooters to go with Kyrie.

My worry about Noel is his weight. He got pushed around a lot in the post IMO. He'll def need to bulk up at the Pro level.

[INDENT]If the San Antonio Spurs choose Deshaun Thomas in next month’s NBA draft, they might have a hard time reaching him to tell him. That’s because when the Spurs asked the former Ohio State star for his phone number Wednesday night, he refused to give it to them.
Thomas said teams asked him plenty of difficult and interesting questions during his interview process at the combine. But the most interesting, he said, was the fact the Spurs’ first question was for his cell phone number and his e-mail address. He gave them the e-mail, but not the phone number.
“I can’t go around giving it out to everyone,” Thomas said Thursday with a laugh. “Now if they want to draft me, I’d be happy to give it to them.”

He tweeted yesterday that this isnt true. He gave it to them and it was a joke.

EDIT: NM. Just saw Midstates post.

Speaking of DeShaun, I am PRAYING he falls to the Pacers.

I see the Cavs getting the #2 pick. That is all.

I dont have the time to look up specifics, so dont murder me if Im wrong on a guy or two, but Noel's weight right now is low, obviously because he is coming off of an ACL tear. His playing weight, however, is very similar to Anthony Davis, Larry Sanders, Joakhim Noah, KG, and Tyson Chandler when they went out for the draft.

    Quote from USA today article
"225 is where I was about," said Noel on Friday at the combine. "That's where I got to in the offseason while I was at Kentucky

Interesting that Shabazz Muhammad is falling in mock drafts, I see him in the high teens now.
