Peyton Manning's legacy?

  • thavoice
I know....if the defense doesnt give up a 70yd TD with 30 to go then this subject doesnt get brought up now but it was still a loss and his INT late, a bad decision, is what doomed them.

I enjoy watching him play. WIll go down in history as statistically as the best, or one of the best. His career TD/INT ration and wiinning percentage is just amazing. All great QBs will have a playoff game here or there that may be subpar, but his teams rarely excell in teh playoffs.

His postseason record and TD/INT is not real good. It seems like the elite of the elite put up similiar if not better numbers in the biggest games of their career. PM just doesnt seem to do that.

Where do you rank him all time and do you think his lack of success in the postseason and how he seems to underpeform?

    Best QB of all time.

    Shut it down.

I usually say he is the best of all time.......
....but his lack of success in the biggest games of his life in the playoffs he just doesnt live up to it. I think that is ultimately what will dog him. Ya gotta win playoff games.

He has a team, namely a defense, that is just as much responsible for W's.

    Valid point.

BUT......he has had quite a few teams good enough to mount very good records and get into the playoffs. I know that the playoffs can be a diff animal but if the defense is good enough to get them a great regular season record then ya would think it is good enough to have a better playoff record then he has.

Also..his personal stats arent nearly as good in the postseason...over 20 int's to his 32 TDs I believe. In the regular season he has over double TDs to INT

I think it'll depend on how many super bowls Tommy wins.

Only 8 quarterbacks have won more playoff games than him.

Of course, he is tied for the most losses too.

Football is a team sport. Manning makes his teams drastically better. That's why he's top 5 all-time.

8 is quite a few more, especially with the added teams in the playoffs in his era compared to years ago. I would have guessed he was in the top few of playoff wins for as many times has he has made it.

Back when Marino was done people asked the same queston with him not winning a SB in his career. He made the playoffs 10 times, and was bounced in the first game only 3 times.

He has made the playoffs 12 times in his career so he has had good enough teams...but was bounced 8 times in just one game. 8 of the 12 appearance he was 1 and done.
Football is the ultimate team sport...no doubt about that.

Dont get me wrong..I am a PM fan. Love watching great QBs at work. BUt his postseason numbers just dont add up to being the best ever.

He'll probably end his career #1 in passing yards, has a chance at #1 in passing TDs, won't even touch top 15 in INTs, #3 in passing yards/game, #4 in passer rating, #5 in passing completion %, #1 in game winning drives, #1 in 4th quarter comebacks, etc. He's won a Super Bowl, a Super Bowl MVP, has the most NFL MVP awards(4), 12x pro bowl, 6x first team, etc. This is the best QB of all time; you're kidding yourself if you believe otherwise.

You left out "One of" at the beginning of this post. Def in the top five but you cannot put him at #1

Peyton Manning is maybe the greatest regular season QB ever

For everyone in the Eli > Peyton camp because of Peyton's losses in the playoffs, what about those times that the Giants just failed to even make the playoffs all together?

I would take Joe Flacco over PM in the playoffs.

He's got the stats for the #1 all time QB. Pray tell you aren't holding it against him that the other 21 players on his team can't help him win playoff games? Such a stupid argument and meant for small minds.

Meaningless. Football is much more of a team sport than say basketball. Remember, Robert Horry? You should because that's the ridiculous argument you are making.

Its a stretch to say I am making a Robert Horry argument. Horry was nothing but a role player.

I would think I am using more of a Lebron vs Michael Jordan logic.

    Both are equally ridiculous justifications.

Chicken & egg...Belichick's legacy is tied to Brady's. Without Brady, Belichick doesn't have nearly the success.

Funny thing about this is if the Ravens go on to win the Superbowl Flacco would have the same number of playoff wins(9) and same number of superbowls(1) as Peyton lol.

As for me I have Peyton 3rd on my list of the all time best QBs.
