If it is intentional, then it' a penalty every time. But that rule has been around forever, which people for some reason forget. When I played it was called spearing.

Uhh not every time helmets touch, but when a WR goes up for a catch, he's in a defenseless position...if a defensive player hits him helmet to helmet, it's a flag. Literally every time. Doesn't matter if it was incidental or not. Do you watch the NFL?

I am not denying anything you said there. If you are paying attention, which you clearly aren't, I am saying I don't think it should be a penalty if it's incidental. If it is intentional, it should be. This is the way it has always been.

I feel they call way too many that they shouldn't. And this, IMO, is one that should not have been called. He did not intend to hit helmet-to-helmet, not could he have prevented, other than not being there at all.

Now, back to kickoffs. If they want to eliminate the kickoff, why not just give the ball to the other team at the 20 or whatever yard line they deem appropriate. This rule would absolutely change the way the game is played/coached. That I don't like.

I'm not arguing your opinion, I'm arguing the rule..which obviously is where the difference lies here.

How are refs supposed to just decide in a few seconds whether a hit was incidental or not? That's almost impossible to do.

You two are on different pages. S&L is thinking that Webfire doesn't understand the rule. I believe he does, he is stating his opinion that he doesn't agree with the rule.
