Giants at Reds, game 5
-
Commander of AwesomeThe Reds have some nice young pieces, I think it will take a few years for them to put it all together. By then though, the Reds will have traded them away for prospects though. Its a shame too, because Cincy needs a winner, but I just don't see it happening there. Esp with Phillips on the downward slope of his career. Its a shame the prime of his career was wasted.

Agreed, I can't really see Phillips continuing the way he is playing, same with Cueto. That's baseball for ya. Players gel, and then quickly falter. There is always a small window of opportunity with your core guys.Commander of Awesome;1293532 wrote:The Reds have some nice young pieces, I think it will take a few years for them to put it all together. jordo212000Why wouldn't Phillips continue to play at a high level? He's not old

jordo212000@justin why take them seriously? Dudes are saying the Giants were the better team this year. Obviously they aren't trying to have a serious conversation haha

So the better teams always win? I'll have to disagree. -

That doesn't answer the question. You said the Giants are better because they are advancing. So that means you agree the better team always wins? -
ThePatriotThis probably has been touched on but i didnt feel like going through this whole thread. The game 5 loss is on the coaching staff. Why do you leave Latos out there when he's obviously struggling, to put it mildly. He was done.
Maybe in June you leave him out there when he's losing his head, see if he can get through the inning, and maybe it's a character builder if he does. But this is not June, it's October. You don't live in Cleveland, You live in Cincinnati!!!
Now, that said Latos has got to get freaking grip. Can't lose control in that situation over balls and strikes. Where did it get him? I keep hearing people say "well, he's only 24". Gimme a break. 24 is plenty old for an athlete to not act like a hot- head. GTFOWTS. -

You're being too hard on Latos, IMO. That's just the kind of guy he is and he's been an absolute stud for us this season and is only getting better. He shouldn't have faced Posey. Period.ThePatriot;1293562 wrote:This probably has been touched on but i didnt feel like going through this whole thread. The game 5 loss is on the coaching staff. Reds played them several times this year and actually won more games than SF did. Because they won more, and the fact they won 97 games.. Leads me to believe the Reds were better
SF just won their games at the right time -

Latos will be fine, and the players we gave up basically had no spot on this team. Grandal maybe beats out Meso, but without giving Meso real time to prove himself, we'll never know. Volquez was done in Cincy, and Alonso had no position. Boxberger was a middle of the pen guy. The Latos move wasn't just for this season. I believe they control him for 2 more years? It was the right move for the future of this franchise. Bottomline, Reds choked it away. It should've never come down to Latos.Commander of Awesome;1293519 wrote:Reds fans have to be scratching their heads after Latos's meltdown. Reds gave up a lot to get him in hopes of him pushing them to the next level. Really have to question the front office and the desperation move considering everything the Reds gave up to get him only to have him ruin their run in the playoffs. I also have to question what the hell Dusty was thinking keeping him out there. I'll give the Reds some credit though, they got pretty far considering their lack of talent. Wouldn't expect them to be back in the playoffs next season though without some major changes. -

Somewhat because you have little to no interest and are on the other side.
I have no problem with anyone on here but it seems like it's a payback to just one person that often ventures to your threads.
I do agree the Reds were just too offensively inconsistent and the plate approaches didn't bode well to get a lot or enough timely hits. I posted back in late July about Cueto leading the league in pitched thrown while never surpassing 185 innings. I don't know if that had anything to do with his injury or if it was 100% bad luck.
My biggest concern was Dusty...always. I've been an avid viewing fan of postseason baseball since 1982. And Dusty has been the manager of 3 of the 5 worst chokes in a postseason series....there's something to it. Once his teams lose an ounce of momentum...it's over. He's managed several very good teams over 19 seasons and has zero titles...only won a few series.
2002 World Series up 3 games to 2 with a 5 run lead to start the 6th...brings in the two pitchers that the Angels had seen in 4 of the 5 previous games...lost momentum and again lost in game 7.
2003 up 3 games to 1 in the NLCS and had a 3-1 lead to start the 8th....at home and let a play by a fan bring down his team on a play that may or may not get made.....were down 8-3 after that fiasco and never showed up in losing game 6 and 7.
2010....ugh
2012.... Up 2-0 and going HOME for 1 win in 3 games and couldn't get it done.....first time an NL team had ever lost a series after being up 2-0...and to lose all 3 at home?
Blame the players if you must but no other manager has more than 1 of the top 15 choke jobs....Dusty has 3 of the top 5 IMO....mixed in with zero championships.
....but at least he's pleased us with extraordinary centerfielders over his 5 years....at least he didn't bat them at the top I guess. -
TedShecklerCould you mean 3 of the 6 worst chokes now?

Davey was piss poor lethargic....but Rizzo shutting down Strasburg was the sealer.
