  You can say that about any hire so to me that doesn't make any sense. I get why people think this is crazy but JKidd has always seemed like a very smart player so if there's any player that I think could immediately be a head coach it is him. Avery Johnson did pretty much the same thing(coaching his former teammates as well) and did a pretty darn good job immediately, so it isn't like this has never happened. Good to see fresh blood given a chance as well over a retread who has sucked in 2 other jobs.

  It makes ZERO sense to say it wasn't a good hire but if he turns out to be good, it's just a lucky move. No, it's, in the most literal sense I can stress, the right move.

  Gregg Popovich had no head coaching experience before being named (or I guess naming himself) head coach of the Spurs. What a lucky move.

  Normally, I'd say an elite player isn't a great coach. However, Marc Jackson did a hell of a job. A great point guard, especially one who commanded the entire game and also had very versatile skills (like Jackson and Kidd) is probably the exception to the "great player, not great coach" mantra.
  
  I think it's a great move for the Nets. I'd rather my team do that than hire a retread who's been with 2 or 3 other teams already.

  If I was a Nets fan, I'd actually be okay with hiring Jason Kidd. It seems the NBA coaching carousel is incredibly redundant and difficult to find the right fit.

  Only guy other than Kidd I would have been OK with is Shaw. As it's been said, much better hires to try out a new HC then to go with someone like Mo Cheeks who's had minimal success in previous HC stints. Althought I will say as a Cavs fan, with how many coaches are on the move I'm glad we got out of the carousel early. None of the hires have really jumped out at me as a great move and the remaining candidates are underwhelming IMO.
  
  And I think we've gotten some good assistants like Kokoskov who might not have been available if we waited to make a move.

  I think Mike Brown. He's a retread so I'm going against what I just said but he's not a Mo Cheeks style retread. Brown has had success in previous stops and is a safe hire for the organization. As I just edited my post I am pleased with the staff he's putting together. He'll teach our young guys to play better D which was lacking under Scott and Kokoskov supposedly runs a PG friendly offense which is what we need when our premier player is at PG.
  
  We've got Vitaly and Mosely to continue mentoring our young bigs as well. Which will come in handy if we draft a guy like Len, Noel or Adams. So I guess I look at it from a staff perspective for the Cavs vs. just Jason Kidd and whomever he gets as assistants. But I do think he could have success as a coach right off the bat. Very smart player and is well respected in the league. D-Will has to be the happiest guy on the Nets about this hire.

  Yeah, I would agree. My only issue with the hire is I don't think he can get us to a championship level. Yes, we'll be a playoff team soon, even a top 4 seed team within 2-4 years. But when we get there, is he good enough to win a title? I don't think he is

  I can see that as a concern. It's funny I was looking up besides Pop who Brown was an assistant under. In Indy he was with Rick Carlisle who I think has had a similar career trajectory in a sense he always got his team to the playoffs but never pushed them to win a title until a few years ago. It can happen, coaches need to mature and learn from their mistakes as much as players do. And I think the Cavs organization is banking on his time away as a learning experience and he'll come back a better coach then he left.

  After sleeping on it, and seeing pick's post again, I still have to LOL. Yeah, the playoff team Nets are going to hire Kidd as a pr move. Not to mention their billionare owner put in a lot of money to see these guys succeed. Excuse me while I LMAO. :laugh:

  They need to do something to improve the defense. Lebron's not getting enough offense (either from him or from help) but the Heat's defense is what killed them last game.

  Oh NBA players don't really defend perimeter shots anyways. If they wouldn't have sucked dick offensively the Spurs don't have to many easy baskets on the other end and they would have had pressure to make possessions count
