Chris Perez rips Cleveland Fans

I completely agree. When your team has no stars, that's not the team's problem, that's the owner's problem. They gambled on a bunch of prospects that they got for VMart, Sabathia, and others and none of them really turned into anything special. If you take a huge risk at your job, and it turns the company into a complete shit fest, do you keep your job? Probably not.Commander of Awesome;1177153 wrote:I see your point Mooney, but we had 4 (6 if you want to count Phillips/VMart, 7 if you include Lincecum) of those type players. And the dolans pissed them away (well two are injury plagued). That's not a marketing problem, thats an ownership problem IMO. -
hoops23I'd love to see Gilbert and Cuban team up and buy the Tribe.

He is rich, but is he that rich to own two teams, and make a baseball team competitive? I feel like he would have to partner up (mark cuban) to buy the tribe and make them competitive.wildcats20;1177165 wrote:lol
I mean it wouldn't be an overnight change in the team, but within 3 years he would have them competing again. Just like he will with the Cavs. -

I mean if Cuban is REALLY that interested in buying a MLB team(which I think he is), it would be a damn good deal for him to team up with someone like Gilbert.like_that;1177168 wrote:He is rich, but is he that rich to own two teams, and make a baseball team competitive? As far as if Gilbert has enough, who the hell knows lol -

Gilbert's net worth is a shade over 1.5 billion and that was before the casinos.like_that;1177168 wrote:He is rich, but is he that rich to own two teams, and make a baseball team competitive? I feel like he would have to partner up (mark cuban) to buy the tribe and make them competitive.
But teaming up with Cuban would be the most logical move.
Good friends and Cuban wants a baseball team. -

honestly, i dont know if i want gilbert to be the owner. i'd prefer him to pour all of his resources into making the cavs as desirable as possible.wildcats20;1177155 wrote:I would say it's a combo of what Mooney said and definitely the ownership.
When is Gilbert going to just pony up the money and buy the damn team?
and i dont think baseball would ever let gilbert buy the team -

I think you're more likely to see Cuban buy the team outright than team up with Gilbert. Cuban was ready to buy the Cubs who are worth a ton more than the Indians. He can afford the Indians by himself easily.wildcats20;1177169 wrote:I mean if Cuban is REALLY that interested in buying a MLB team(which I think he is), it would be a damn good deal for him to team up with someone like Gilbert.

I wouldn't count on it while Selig is Commissioner though. He seems content on keeping Cuban out of baseball. -
wes_mantoothThe rumors were always that Cuban wanted in on buying the Pirates. They have an amazing ballpark...just imagine what he would have done for that franchise.

For sure wouldn't have traded away every single decent prospect they have had in the last 10 years lolwes_mantooth;1177179 wrote:The rumors were always that Cuban wanted in on buying the Pirates. They have an amazing ballpark...just imagine what he would have done for that franchise. -

That makes sense because he grew up outside of Pittsburgh. I remember reading how his first job was as a paper boy delivering the Post-Gazette.wes_mantooth;1177179 wrote:The rumors were always that Cuban wanted in on buying the Pirates. Crimson streakIf Cuban ever buys a team they will be near the top every year. Cuban is such a competitive guy and doesn't care about money, he just wants to win. I wish he would buy the Indians but I don't see it happening.
As for the attendance. Look at the 90's the team was exciting and they sold out 455 straight games. I know a lot of people don't go to the games because of Dolan and how cheap he is. -
wes_mantoothYeah, and Cuban spending without a cap unlike the NBA....lol, that would be crazy.

Tribe has actually made some good trades. Casey Blake for Santana....Astrubal for a nobody...Masterson and Haggedone for Victor.Mooney44Cards;1177166 wrote:I completely agree. And yes, Chris Perez for Mark DeRosa.
It would be nice to sign a guy like Fielder...but that won't happen with Dolan. Baseball needs a hard cap. -
hoops23Haggedone!!!!

DeyDurkie5I don't laugh at these athletes that bitch about fans. He's got a legit gripe. Other teams pull in 30,000 fans per game and get the support needed. They are averaging 15,000 fans. It's just not enough, especially for the cold weather town of Cleveland.

On-field success doesn't translate to ticket sales in the short term. Usually it takes two winning seasons to see an uptick in attendance for that third year.DeyDurkie5;1177231 wrote:I don't laugh at these athletes that bitch about fans. He's got a legit gripe. I know this. But players think in the short term, not long term.Mooney44Cards;1177237 wrote:On-field success doesn't translate to ticket sales in the short term. Usually it takes two winning seasons to see an uptick in attendance for that third year. -

That's why they don't let the players run the teams.DeyDurkie5;1177241 wrote:I know this. But players think in the short term, not long term. -

That has nothing to do with the argument. Players are ripping the fans for not attending the first place indians games. Has nothing to do with ownershipMooney44Cards;1177243 wrote:That's why they don't let the players run the teams. -

And I understand Perez's frustration. But him acting like a whiny baby because fans aren't coming to see the mediocre team that happens to be in 1st place in the worst division in baseball does nothing. He needs to keep his opinions to himself. I'm sure he'd want fans to be patient with him after only 7 weeks, so maybe he should do the same for them.DeyDurkie5;1177245 wrote:That has nothing to do with the argument. Mooney44CardsAlso: being in first place in May means nothing. Indians fans are smarter than that to fall for that BS.

I disagree completely with your first part. Cleveland fans bitch about having a winner in their town. Regardless of what you say about it being hte first quarter of a 162 game season, it's still the Indians being in 1st place. They should support the team.Mooney44Cards;1177250 wrote:Also: being in first place in May means nothing. Indians fans are smarter than that to fall for that BS. -

You can disagree all you like. It's May though. No division has ever been won in May. The Cleveland fans didn't fall for it last year and they won't fall for it this year. The Pirates were in first place in late July last year. They were still a bad team. Coincidentally having the best record at any given part of the year doesn't make a team good in any way shape or form. The Orioles are in 1st place in the best division in baseball and their attendance hasn't ticked up at all either. It's because short term success doesn't translate to attendance figures.DeyDurkie5;1177252 wrote:I disagree completely with your first part. Cleveland fans bitch about having a winner in their town. The Cavs were trending upwards when Gilbert bought them. They already had Lebron.
